a small critical analysis on my some of my favourite bungo stray dogs characters:

~dazai osamu: we virtually know nothing about his origins before the mafia, nor his parents or his childhood. all we know is that he is incredibly smart, on a genius level. and hence the suicidal tendencies, which are a manifestation of a longing for something that will put him at ease with the world. despite the jokes and the comedic relief he gives, dazai is undoubtedly one of the saddest characters in bsd, as shown that he possesses an immense amount of self loathing, and that kindness is his ultimate weakness. dazai, a character of what it means to be human.

~ francis fitzgerald: the epitome of the american dream. wealth rules all, wealth controls all. yet, after the fall of the guild, he was penniless and destitute, but after he found his will to be strong thanks to louisa, he manoeuvred and created situations that would result in him acquiring vast amounts of wealth, the eyes of god, and his purpose once again. this shows that fitzgerald’s strongest qualities are his tenacity, his determination and the desire to succeed. Al of these three aforementioned qualities are staples in what is referred to as the “American Dream”. Moreover, another his love for his family was one of his other defining characteristics. Ironically, this also resulted in his downfall, since his obsessive hunt for the book inevitably resulted in his defeat at the hands of atsushi and akutagawa.

atsushi nakajima: the embodiment of a desolate childhood. atsushi’s inherent kindness is visible in how he broke the cycle of the generational treatment. from being raised by a man who suffered the same abuse he later dealt down to atsushi, to the general desire of people wanting to manipulate and use him for their own needs, he has remained steadfast in his kindness and his desire to help people. atsushi embodies the heart of the agency, the invaluable attitude of how one should look at life, with hope, with joy, with gratitude.

hypothetically, if Cassie’s universe happens to exist in the same reality as Riordanverse, i would sell my soul for an interaction between Percy and Kit.
