I do have work today so I can't stay long but;;
I've been considering overnight the concept of how to integrate Kettle/his family into a TADC verse, and even moreso, a main verse that makes him easy to interact with, and I think I've got something reasonable cooking.
So in the context of TADC, there have been theories floating around that while we don't know for sure how the others got into the C&A program, it could be a sort of coma suspension for victims of tragedy. It is keeping them alive in a sort of way (see: Gangle hit by truck, Ragatha constantly impaled by knives [though this of course can be in a more metaphorical context, ie. her mother's harsh verbal abuse]) and it's sort of like a certain Black Mirror episode (iykyk)
So while this theory is just speculation, to me it seems meaningful enough to use as an excuse for the Cat family.
Mama Marigold and Daddy Donut hate each other, and they don't really hide it. It wouldn't be out of the question to me for them to start an argument, probably about suspicions of infidelity, while driving and end up in a horrific car accident. I'm thinking that Fizzy wouldn't be in the car at the time because they were on the way to pick her up from school (Kettle being out early, so he was present in the car), and was spared the tragic event. Hush Hound, likewise, is not present, and lives, as he's waiting at home.
All three of them (Marigold, Donut, Kettle) die in the car accident, or are at least put in deep comas. C&A places them within the program because they are eligible for one reason or another.
The Cat family, as they are depicted, are their avatars.
I can see both of his parents abstracting, though I don't know the timeframe. Daddy Donut has a pretty weak mental fortitude and a nasty temper, so he'd go first. Mama Marigold is a bit tougher, but still not so great, so she'd end up going too.
Main verse could have them as a mysterious TV program that seems to be acting incorrectly. Every VHS seems fine, until this one containing episodes 5 and 6. It doesn't seem like a children's program, and the parents, rather than acting sweet and caring, are acting more in-character to their emotional neglect. Soon after, Kettle starts trying to communicate to the viewer through the screen (think Angel Hare) and trying to make a friend. Can he come out? Is it physically possible? Is there an escape for him? Why was Kettle Kitten made? What were the writers intending?
