June 8 PWHL expansion status:

Today is the last day of Phase 2, where each expansion team gets to sign 5 players, with a maximum of 3 taken from any existing team.

Hamilton has signed 5 already. Detroit and San Jose have 1 open slot each. Las Vegas still has 3.

Ottawa, New York, Seattle, and Minnesota have all had 3 players depart already, so their remaining rosters are safe for now. Montreal and Boston have lost 1 player each. Toronto and Vancouver haven't lost anybody yet.

San Jose and Detroit have used their EFOs, Hamilton and Vegas have not.

Hey. We all know that using Britta as a figure head for the league’s conservativism right is to point out blatant support for conservatism and bigotry? And that every person no matter what team they are rooting for should be using those moment to support and uplift marginalized communities in the ways they are able to.

I literally don’t care about Britta Curl as a person. Regardless of anything else the way the cultural landscape moved she has become a symbol. (Which is just a thing that happens. Our brains do that.)

So when we are talking about Curl and bigotry in the league we are also talking about resources and actionable steps right? No matter what you think about her or the discourse you are doing things to talk about or combat the most toxic parts of hockey culture and give support to the communities most effect. Right?

During the agonies of expansion draft, now is a great time to propose my new PWHL rule suggestion.

Goalie Rage

When someone interferes with a goalie, the second goalie on the bench is immediately armed with an extra big goalie stick. (Imagine this like a Final Fantasy sword size stick) The second goalie then gets to skate around the ice for a period of time bapping the opposing team with the stick and skating headlong into them before returning to the bench.

This rule would provide necessary goalie enrichment, and frankly they deserve it.
