i read the robots series translated at first so I never came across the term "plainclothesman" anywhere else so whenever I found it in a bunch of fanfics I was reading I thought there was some kind of fandom wide phenomenon about making fun of Elijah's fashion style (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`)
elijah introducing himself to spacers: Elijah Bailey, boring clothes wearer from shit planet
wait I just thought about Daneel not knowing that word either and getting ready to fight someone for his partners honor (ʃƪ^3^)

You possess the galaxy’s most advanced intelligent humaniform robot, a groundbreaking work of robotics. What do you do?
Fastolfe: gift it to this poor lonely husband-killer who looks like my estranged daughter who resents me after I used her for scientific experiments & refused her offer
Gladia: SEX / leave it in an empty room all by itself for days, to improve the SEX 👁️🫦👁️
Asimov correctly assumed that a powerful general-purpose technology would be immediately applied, by some, to the most primal activity:
g o o n i n g
Elijah behaves like a RAINBOW LORIKEET
Since they usually fight in pairs, "don't test the force of our love" is a rainbow lorikeet phrase.
To continue, Daneel is AUSTRALIAN KING PARROT.
It is a very sweet and friendly parrot that gets bullied by other birds, including lorikeets. But it is still a parrot, and all parrots are somewhat crazy (and tend to acquire brainrot over a single person).
Giskard is WHITE-WINGED CHOUGH. It is an underrated and ignored bird with scary red eyes.
They like to steal chicks from other families and make them take care of their own chicks when they are mature enough. This is similar to how Giskard brainwashed some robots on Earth.
They also have complicated language they don't fully understand until they are 6 months. This is similar to Giskard's abilities.
Vasilia is a SULPHUR-CRESTED COCKATOO. It is a crazy fearless destructive parrot with HUGE brain.
These parrots like to obsess over a single person, and nothing can stop them on their way to said person (all parrots are like that but large cockatoos especially), which is similar to how Vasilia wanted to get Giskard back.
They like to sneak into people's houses as well, I have seen this first-hand 😎🔥
The chapter in which Elijah interrogated Vasilia is like an average sulphur-rainbow interaction (pictures 2 and 3) 💥
And did I mention their huge brain? For example, they have learned to open bins even when people try to secure (picture 4) them and use water fountains (picture 5).
Fastolfe is a LONG-BILLED CORELLA (also a kind of cockatoo). Idk, just vibes.
Mandamus is an AUSTRALIAN WHITE IBIS. This controversial bird is actually a skilled urban forager (pictures 3, 4, 5 are related), which is simialr to how Mandamus spent 7192939896540 days on Earth, mostly in The Cities. They also adapted to building nests on introduced palm trees 🌴 (pictures 6 and 7). They don't look very comfortable but it's something, just like the shelter built by the himaniform 🤖.
I looked this up, and turns out there's at least three separate species of birds that do this - black kites, whistling kites, and brown falcons. Collectively they are known as firehawks. Rangers in northern parts of Australia take this behaviour into account when assessing and managing bushfire risk.
"We document Indigenous Ecological Knowledge and non-Indigenous observations of intentional fire-spreading by the fire-foraging raptors Black Kite (Milvus migrans), Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus), and Brown Falcon (Falco berigora) in tropical Australian savannas. Observers report both solo and cooperative attempts, often successful, to spread wildfires intentionally via single-occasion or repeated transport of burning sticks in talons or beaks. This behavior, often represented in sacred ceremonies, is widely known to local people in the Northern Territory, where we carried out ethno-ornithological research from 2011 to 2017; it was also reported to us from Western Australia and Queensland. Though Aboriginal rangers and others who deal with bushfires take into account the risks posed by raptors that cause controlled burns to jump across firebreaks, official skepticism about the reality of avian fire-spreading hampers effective planning for landscape management and restoration." - Mark Bonta et al, 2017, J. of Ethnobiology, 37(4), p. 700

Two men and the Mule-
Made a new poster! :)
It is wild to me that the SPOP fandom doesn’t talk about or even mention the fact Hordak attempted to commit suicide on screen. That just happened and then the whole fandom proceeded to be like “well he’s still selfish and mean”. Guys. He isn’t perfect but what do you mean there’s like zero sympathy or acknowledgement of the tragedy of that???
And yes, I will not argue on this. It was not ‘a metaphor’ or ‘kind of’. Hordak stepped into that pool knowing it would erase him. He did not want to live with even the vaguest of memories of who he was. He fully intended to delete everything that made him himself. He willingly tried to destroy who he was and what he felt and everything he was inside. He did it in a way that left his physical body to still be useful because he was so brainwashed that he didn’t want to be a burden even in death. He heard so much as his name and he was ready to kill the part of him that was him, was Hordak. To make himself just another face, to wipe away the feelings and thoughts he had. Destroying everything inside and leaving just a body. That is absolutely a form of suicide. Hordak tried to kill what was left of himself in that moment.
And he was partially successful.
And it breaks me every time I think about it, and again every time it’s forgotten or thrown aside just because he isn’t a main character.
Oh, don't you worry. I cried over it copiously back in the day.
Hordak absolutely intended to kill his individual self. Literally saved by his memories of Entrapta.
I still can't watch that scene, by the by. It's been six years, and I won't do it.

One of my favourite Foundation in-universe lore things is how many people step onto a new planet and immediately go "wow smells like shit"

I imagined Entrapta, Hordak, and Wrong Hordak visiting the ruins of the spacebat civilization on a faraway planet. A mural of an ancient spacebat astronomer is the first thing they find. It’s a reminder of their ancestor’s curiosity about the cosmos. Unfortunately, the ancients had no way of knowing how Horde Prime would bring his fellow spacebats to the stars someday …
They don't want you to know this but "demisexuality" actually stands for sexual attraction to Demerzel.
Does anyone have this picture translated?
I like the facial expressions so much
Yor's brother is so annoying, I want him to be removed from the plot.
