Pay attention to the small wins in your language learning. Remembering to decline adjective/adverbs/pronouns etc correctly. Using the right case in a particular context. Recalling that one word you needed without having to look it up, even if it took you a few seconds to remember. Learning a new word. Reading a whole paragraph without having to use google translate. Being able to correct your own grammar, even if you didn’t get it right the first time and have to consciously think about those grammar rules. Learning a language is a long road and sometimes it’s difficult to see just how far you’ve come, so it’s important to celebrate the little victories.
being a student right now is so fucking terrible is anyone coping
like what the fuck is a deadline when 1 million people have died
I’m not a student, but this is a thought that crosses my mind every day. And every day I try telling myself, Keep working, because when this is all over, you’ll be glad for the work you’ve done.
It’s like the long winters of the past, when the granaries would slowly empty and people started to fear spring would never come again: during the dark days, you do things. You repair your tools. You enjoy each other’s company. You sing old songs and write new ones. You make ropes and nets and weave blankets and do anything you don’t have time for in the summer. And it’s hard to do it and hard to stay hopeful, but that way, when spring comes - and spring does come, spring will come - you can start working in the fields with a brand-new plow and good boots and a head full of songs.
Thank you
This is such a difficult time at the moment and I know people (including me) are struggling so I am reblogging this for anyone who needs it 💕
trying to focus more on health and balanced studying than constant productivity 24/7, but it’s a lot harder than it sounds 😪
hey love, be kind to yourself today
hi! here are some online class study tips that have worked for me, so i wanted to share them with you guys!! online classes have been touuuugh, but we’ll get through this together! :D
plan ahead. a lot of my professors gave assignments earlier and gave us about a month to work on them. some of us might have the tendency to work on them later on, but working on them as soon as i can and finishing them 2 weeks earlier than the deadline gave me more time to work on bigger, more important projects. this can also give you more time to make changes to it when there are last minute requirements you have to include.
call your friends. when we went to school, we always looked forward to hanging out with our friends after being in class for hours. all that is painfully absent now, so i tried to compensate by calling my friends after classes or designating a specific day in the week where all of you are free and having a fun study session together.
change of scenery. being in the same space every hour of every day adds to the dreadfulness of it all, so having a change of scenery every once in a while can actually make you feel more energized. whenever i got the chance to go out to the park or the library, i would always take it. but!! adding some polaroids on your walls, changing your bed sheets, or even just studying in your dining room are also just as effective!
keep a water bottle next to you. it’s so easy for us to forget to drink water as the day goes by. with this, having a water bottle next to you makes you want to reach out to it and drink water more frequently. not only does this keep you hydrated, but drinking water will also wake you up when you’re feeling snoozy in the middle of a class lecture!
have a group chat where u log productivity. my friends and i become motivated to work when we see that others are working, so we made a group chat where we logged tasks that we’ve accomplished as the day goes by. aside from this, i’m also part of a group in the focus to-do app where you can see other people working as well as how many hours they’ve worked during the day.
wear uv protection glasses. this is one of the most important things i learned during this whole online class experience. my eye grades went from 20/20 to 50/100 in the span of just a month and a half, and i had to get prescription glasses! don’t let online classes ruin your eyesight, people! learn from my experience :(
spread out your tasks. for some reason, professors have given us so much more assignments for online classes compared to when we were in the actual university. it can get quite overwhelming, but spreading out your tasks can help lessen the stress and pressure. i work on small tasks for a short period of time each day to make sure that i’m able to get things done on time without feeling extremely tired. i actually made a post on this here! check it out if you want a more elaborate explanation for this part :)
listen to the live discussions. i used to zone out during synchronous sessions, talk to friends, or play games on my phone, thinking that i don’t have to listen now and that i can just rewatch it later. while being able to rewatch your professor’s lecture is one of the pros of online classes, try to listen to your professor’s live discussions as much as you can! it saves so much time and gives you the change to ask them questions during the lesson proper. if you’re able to understand the lesson during the session, you’d be able to spend your extra time working on other assignments or doing things for yourself. however, there definitely are some classes wherein you’d really have to repeatedly listen to the recorded sessions in order to fully understand the concepts, and that’s fine too! the point of this is to try and listen to the lesson as much as you can so you can spend less time on it later.

Can’t believe I’ll be starting my degree in a month (already getting nervous + anxious). But, I’m still on sem break mode now haha. Honestly, coffee, sleep + “The Big Bang Theory” were the only things that kept me going in university :’)
After studying in a university for a year, I realized that choosing good teammates / group mates are hella important (or else you’d either end up doing the whole assignment / lab report by yourself or get a bad grade for your assignment / lab report). Thank goodness I had a good group mate with me in every group assignments / lab groups last year. If it wasn’t for her, I’d be so dead back then.
Well, my first semester of year one in degree will be starting on next month. I’ll be dead set on mingling with my course mates on the orientation day + also finding good / hardworking / responsible team mates on the first day of class!!!
my new desk set-up has got me feeling very productive.
if you're a student at all, please take care of yourself. you don't need to compete with your classmates for who slept the least or who drank the most coffee. eat breakfast and go to sleep a little earlier. lay off studying for a night and do something nice for yourself. your body and brain will thank you.

some of the notes i’ve been taking for my psych class. i love the prof for this class but i’ve gotten so behind on lectures after having so many other midterms in a row.
I’m holding on until my reading week which is in two weeks! i’m learning that it’s ok to get behind on work if i have time to make it up later. my exams right now are a priority and i shouldn’t feel bad about pushing other work off momentarily.

the curve of forgetting
the curve of forgetting describes how we retain or get of information we absorb.
day 1: you go into a lecture knowing 0% and come out knowing 100% of what you know (regardless of whether you know it extremely well or not)
day 2: you did not do any reviewing of your notes from day 1 therefore you have lost 50%-80%
and as the days progress we forget less and less
think about midterms! notice how around midterms when you’re trying to study for something (that you haven’t been reviewing for regularly) it feels like the material is VERY difficult and almost as if you’ve never learned it before
formula to reshape the curve
within 24 hours of your lecture spend 10 minutes reviewing the material
a week later: it will only take 5 minutes to REACTIVATE the same material
ultimately, you will reshape the curve
day 30: by this day your brain will only need 2-4 minutes to recall
information on the curve of forgetting was taken from the university of waterloo (x)
my formula to reshape the curve using the information above
before class: spend 10 minutes PREVIEWING the material.
after class: spend 10 minutes REVIEWING the material
do this regularly. this will be your preview/review system for each class.
a week later: try to review a week later. i know that school/life can get pretty hectic, but try to make sure you are reviewing regularly.
maybe record yourself saying some important details/concepts from your notes the night before and on your daily commute to school plug in those earphones and listen to it. i am an auditory learner and i find that listening to my notes before i go to bed and right when i wake up have truly helped me retain information. studies have shown that the best time to study is right before going to bed and right when you wake up.
a month later: after a month, review what you’ve learned so far in your class. trust me this will be a very very short review. everything will look very familiar to you and it won’t look as difficult as it used to.
basically your review schedule should be the following:
1 hour before learning the material
1 hour after learning the material (or within 24 hours of learning it b/c i know we’re all very busy people)
1 day later
1 week later
1 month later
remember everyone learns, studies, and retains information differently!! my personal belief is that your technique is what matters most. it is not about your innate ability/talent. find a technique that works for you.
more suggestions:
active learning > passive learning
when taking notes use the Cornell method. it forces you to ask questions and summarize what you’ve learned.
set frequent, short, review sessions
test yourself constantly! there are so many resources online.
people who are under stress have difficulty remembering things so CHILL OUT
don’t rush, take your time
repetition is key
practice MAKES PERFECT
group items together
fish, vitamin b12, and green tea can help w/ memory
don’t give up. like morrissey said “these things take time.”
I have so much to go through until my first grad school midterms next week 🙂🙃 yup, in Korean.
If I study a lot every day it’s pretty manageable, it just takes time. Because of corona and online lessons, my exams are open-book, which takes off some of the stress, but that probably means there will be no time to look up stuff from the book anyway so I better be very familiar with the material. Especially it’s location in the book lol.
It’s nice that the teachers are understanding and didn’t give us homework before midterms. Honestly I’m loving all the professors this semester.
I got this. 💪

12.10.2020 » second week back to uni but i don’t think it’ll last long. the c word situation is getting worse in my country and i honestly think by next week all schools will be online again. so i guess i’ll just try to enjoy the last of real human interaction this week.

01.10.20 / oh wow it’s october. it’s going to be a busy month for me as i’ve set a lot of personal deadlines for my writing by the end of this month. i’m anxious but it’s the enthusiastic kind, if that makes sense lol. i imagine most of my month will be caffeine fueled. how was your september and what’s in store for you this october? wishing you all the best ♡
