It’s been about one standard week, and he still hasn’t returned. Din knows he can handle this, he does. But these kinds of matters never sit well with the Mandalorian. Even after nearly a decade together, there are some aspects of the Jedi Din will never understand regardless of how much he tries, and he’s accepted that.
Their powers. The force. Lightsabers. Mind reading. Jedi. Sith.
There are so many differences between the Mandalorians and the Jedi, yet the similarities are there as well.
When Grogu decided to walk the path of both a Mandalorian and a Jedi, Din was surprised to say the least, but he couldn’t contain his bursting pride as his foundling held his head high, stood tall and asked to be trained in the Way.
Despite his size, he took well to the physical training required. The boy approached problems with an ingenuity and insight Din might never know, a skill of his Jedi training no doubt. While some questioned the validity of his training, of his powers, they couldn’t deny Grogu’s unwavering loyalty to their people. He was no typical foundling, but he was a foundling all the same, with just as much of a right as the other children to take the Creed.
Din will always remember that day, when the Armorer handed his boy the beskar helmet and small green claws slid the metal into place.
A recognizable silhouette coming through the tree line pulls Din out of his reverie. The mudhorn helmet makes its way back to the ship, and with a lazy press to his vambrace, Grogu lowers the ramp.
It takes all but ten seconds for Din to exit the cockpit and meet him at the entrance, anxious but relieved. Grogu’s outer robes are damp from the snow and fraying at some edges, but his armor is clean and he’s in one piece.
As the ramp closes and they head back to the cockpit, Din feels the familiar presence in his mind easing his nerves, and he can’t help but shake his head fondly at his son.
“I know, I know. But just because you’re a master and leading the clan now won’t make me stop worrying about you, kid. I mean, what if you get attacked by another loth-cat?” the Mandalorian teases.

For @dankfarrikdrabbles prompt: Mudhorn/Free Choice (Loyal).
Been busy lately and missed a few weeks that I need to go back to, but I just couldn’t get this one out of my head, and I think it turned out really well!
Grogu’s helmet is (obviously) mudhorn inspired, but also added a little tribute to the Razor Crest! 😁
