Finishing off the drink in his hand, Koga emptied the glass before tossing it in the bin, slouching on the bench. The people of the city bustled by him, and he was content with watching the life flitter by. Patting his Rockruff, he smiled while watching her tail swish in time to his hand. 

Getting up, he motioned for his Pokemon to follow, and began trailing down a path that he was pretty sure lead to the coffee shop that hosted lives. He figured he would check it out while he was in the area. While checking his phone, he rounded the corner and almost ran into a white Furfrou. Be fumbled with his device, almost dropping it before regaining his composure. 

“Well, aren’t you cute.” Dropping to a knee, he held his hand out, waiting for the Furfrou to sniff him before he inched closer. She seemed okay with it, so he went ahead and pet her. “You’re really soft.” He spoke to her as if she could reply. But he figured that her barks were something along the lines of yes!! soft!! 

He kept patting her while his Rockruff, Pinto Bean, bounced around on the soles of her paws. Two dogs! The day had taken an upswing, and he gave the Furfrou a belly rub when she rolled over on her back. However, the excitement was short lived when a pink haired stranger came barging in, demanding that Koga get his hands off of the Furfrou. 

He didn’t really like this guy’s tone, so he looked him dead in the eyes, scowling. 

“Or what? You’ll dye my hair pink?” With that, he gave the Furfrou a very slow and deliberate pat on the head, still locking eyes with the stranger. “Some trainer you are, if that’s even who you are.” 

If you looked closely enough, you’d be able to see the corner of the photographer’s eye twitch with pure irritation. It was bad enough this guy was some kind of Pokemon thief, but to be an annoying asshole about it? No dignity. 

Georgette definitely wasn’t helping, either. The guy defiantly gave her another pat to the head -- childish -- and the most she done upon spotting her actual trainer was to scramble to her feet to look over at him, tail wagging. 

Now wasn’t the time to make friends, please.

“Oh, my apologies,” Avery started in a sarcastic fashion, adding a touch of drama with a hand pressed against his chest as he spoke. “It’s just, I’ve heard a lot of talk about these dangerous criminal gangs who set out to steal what doesn’t belong to them, so I was worried my Furfrou might have gotten herself into some trouble.”

Unclipping Georgette’s designated Pokeball from his belt, he scoffed under his breath. 

“But clearly you’re just another irrelevant street thug, so we’ll be on our way.”

After one last couple shots, Izumi sighs, relaxing. He sets the perfume down taking the bottled water handed to him and drinks it. He also takes the towel to pat down the slight sweat he had from being under all those lights. Izumi walked away from the photo area and over to the snacks. On his way there, he smiled at his photographer.

❝Thank you for your hard work, Avery-san.❞ He bows before heading over to the table. Once there, he licked his lips, drooling practically, and starts picking at the sweets, eating them one by one, not even stopping.

A day at work was always a refreshing one when the person in front of your camera was an actual professional, so Avery was feeling particularly lucky that it was Izumi’s photoshoot he’d been assigned to cover this time around.

Now the time had come for a break, this would usually be the part where the photographer would sit with his laptop and pick and choose between the best of the shots taken, but the blonde currently in his company was pleasant enough for him to bother conversing with, prompting Avery to join Izumi at the table-full of sweets; approaching with a teasing smile.

“Eat too many of those and you’ll get fat,” he chided, despite reaching over to take a bite-sized chocolate for himself.

Yaguchi on his part, was doing nothing but wish for the prompt end to this trial. And, considering how determined this pink boy was about making him suffer, for no evidence of this embarrassment to ever get out of this ruined building.

“Ughhh… and you sure are enjoying yourself…” he huffed, the sinking frown directly correlated to how annoyed he felt by Avery’s refreshing smile. He had no business looking so pretty in this situation, and he felt the incredible urge to deck him. Which, of course, he didn’t followed through, too busy clinging to that arm for dear life.

“No way in hell” he said in a hushed tone, face hiding against Avery’s arm -proof he’d do exactly the same if he was prompted with posing for a selfie. “I don’t wanna see any weird shadows appearing behind me in the picture…”

Yes… in between annoyance and fear, fear won.

“I really am,” he confessed with a smile, this one a bit more sly than the last. Now that they were too far into the building for Yaguchi to bolt right back out the front doors, Avery felt a bit more confident with his teasing now that doing so (probably) wouldn’t end with abandonment.

His laughter echoed from the walls as his arm was used to hide the other’s face, though deep down he supposed it was rather adorable. 

“You’re acting much weirder than any shadows right now.” 

With each step taken the floorboards of the staircase creaked menacingly, threatening to snap under their combined weight. Between Yaguchi’s fussing and the noise beneath their feet, if there were any ghosts about before, they surely must have been scared away by now. 

“I’d be much more concerned about the living if I were you. Who knows who found this place before we did?” 

Not helping, Avery.

[水] – It wasn’t a very uncommon occurrence for him to loose someone in a crowd when most of the population was shorter than him. It was easy enough for people to find him, but he unfortunately couldn’t say the same about him having to find others. Avery was also gifted in the height department (not as much as himself, though) so he could certainly understand his woes.

      “It can be pretty difficult, can’t it?                 I’ve lost my captain a couple of times before.         Our captain was our quarterback and he was quick to get lost.”

More like he was always going around doing things that he always lost track of where everyone was. It was Mizumachi that always got lost, not the captain of the team. The blond giant was always getting himself lost and then someone would have to go out and find the humungous blond.

      “Nah, I don’t think they have any here.”

At least, not any that he’s found, anyways.

      “I used to go to hot springs and things like public bath houses often in Japan.                 Bathing with others is just a common thing for us.”

He didn’t find it odd himself, but many others he’s talked to found it very odd so he felt the need to add on the second part there. He didn’t think that Avery would find the idea so appealing, but he enjoyed it. You were able to forge a bond with your teammates or just with another stranger enjoying the warm baths.

      “Yeah? Ehhh— I don’t think taking pictures is my thing.                You gotta have a steady hand to make pictures turn out well, right?”

He was much too active to really have a steady enough hand to take a good picture. He laughed at Avery’s comment about the unflattering angles being deserved if the subject couldn’t sit still for more than 5 minutes.

      “Thanks, dude. You have a pretty face yourself.”

Fork still in his mouth, Avery couldn’t help the incredulous look he gave in response. He only had Mizumachi’s word to go from here so there was no reason for him to doubt that it was indeed their captain that would often go missing, but even so. How did they ever make it on time to any game they’d ever played? A miracle. 

Back to the dessert, he took another bite. Might as well take his time with it, since their waiter was probably too fearful to come back to their table in case the big guy over here decided to order another twelve side dishes. 

“Public baths?” His nose wrinkled slightly in distaste as he considered it. Enjoying the experience of a hot spring with some friends was one thing, but if it was just a plain old bath indoors with potential strangers... Potential weird and gross strangers, no less. He shuddered at the thought. 

“No, I think I’d pass on that after all.”

The wording of the compliment he was given in return did earn a chuckle from him, though. Pretty would be an apt description and Avery knew this, but it wasn’t going to stop him from having a little fun with it. Lifting a hand, he cupped the side of his cheek in mock offence. 

“Aha, am I not manly enough to be considered handsome as well?”

If asked, Avery would be quick to swear that he was a good and responsible Pokemon Trainer, who’s team members listened to his words with care and were on their best behaviour at all times -- even if his current situation seemed to be showcasing the exact opposite of that. 

Georgette had wandered off again, as Georgette was often prone to doing. It wouldn’t have been so alarming were they not in the middle of the city, with crowds of people blocking his line of vision as he scanned his surroundings for the Furfrou who may or may not have been more stubborn and adventurous than the trainer who had raised her. 

What if she’d gotten lost? What if she had been taken? 

That thought alone was enough to prompt Avery into action, calling the dog-like Pokemon’s name as he retraced his steps, a hastened walk soon evolving into an all-out run. 

A distant yipping sound led him to a street tucked out of view from the main row of stores he’d been browsing not so long ago -- almost entirely empty save for a suspicious stranger crouched over a familiar, fluffy Furfrou that was laying on the ground in front of him. 

The truth here was that Georgette had probably found someone willing to give her some belly rubs and maybe a treat, but the Kalosian trainer’s nerves were too frayed to assume this stranger was anything but an absolute thief. 

“Hey. Hey!” 

Still out of breath from chasing his own Pokemon (who’d really outdone herself when it came to attention-seeking right now) Avery’s cheeks were flushed with exhaustion as he approached, more than ready to square up if the situation called for it.

“Hands off the Furfrou.”

The very idea of beauty rest had been abandoned, practically thrown out the window in favour of staying up until the early hours of the morning to get shit done. If there was one thing Avery was not prepared for when it came to student life, it was the seemingly endless amount of deadlines. Deadlines for things he didn’t want to do, in general subjects he didn’t even care for -- which was probably the reason why he’d put off writing this particular essay so late. 

2:24 AM kind of late.

Perched on one end of a couch in Ouvara Dormitory’s common living areas, the photographer was lacking in the style and confidence he was known for. Pink hair was mussed, combed back with the amount of times he’d raked his fingers through it from stress alone. The baggy summer sleepwear of soft shorts and an oversized t-shirt wasn’t helping his steadily unravelling appearance, and the half-empty cup of coffee he clung to like a prayer as he stared at the half-written essay on his laptop screen was doing more harm than good at this point. 

In fact, it looks like he hasn’t blinked in a solid ten seconds now. Might be best to check up on him before he crashes entirely.

    “Oh, don’t worry, even all disguised like this there’s no way someone would mistake you for some common human.” He reassured, using their connected hands - and he definitely squeezed Avery’s fingers when he laced them together - to keep them out of the thick of the crowds.

He didn’t want either of them to be dragged away, after all, and he for sure didn’t want to be separated from his mate.

    “I saw some of those little music boxes a few stalls back, but we can circle back to them. Something smells good, I want to check that out first before we go hunting for gold and trinkets.”

There was a simultaneous rush of pride and affection at Kyouhei’s words -- the pride being for himself, mostly -- prompting the soft pink feathers that adorned him to practically puff up in response, as if he were some kind of peacock rather than a dragon in disguise. A compliment from the one he treasured was just as valuable as the affectionate squeeze he was given as they weaved their way through the swarms of surrounding people. Without hesitation he brought Kyouhei’s hand to lips, pressing a chaste kiss to his knuckles. 

“I suppose now is a good of a time as any to grab a bite to eat,” he agreed with a nod, assuming that was what the other had intended in the first place. To those with heightened senses, it wasn’t just the food that could draw you in by scent alone. “What is it you’ve found?”

What an unfair pretty boy. Awful, awful. He hated the part of him that reacted to any challenge ready to jump on it, for it had been his downfall in this ‘being dragged to hell’ situation. In fact, this guy and his very direct taunting was extremely good in making Yaguchi do whatever he wanted. Awful indeed. Horrible even.

He was clearly stuck to the other’s arm, like a scared cat clinging from the top branch of a tree, even if that meant being close to a horrible, awful person while dragged even further inside this horrible, awful place.

“Hnnnn-” the sound was a cute version of a growl -or it pretended to be- and he pouted just a bit at the idea of spending as much time as the pink haired evidently wanted to.

“N-no way! That would only be more embarrassing you idiot!” he said, red painting his cheeks at the mere image of this guy showing around his pictures. More than that, posing for a picture would mean being somewhat apart from the photographer. And you know what? No. He could deal without that extra stress. fuck it.

Unfair, awful, horrible pretty boy was the correct observation to make about Avery in this particular scenario. Despite the odd startling sound here and there, the photographer was having quite an enjoyable time here in this decrepit old building, and Yaguchi and his very obvious fear was almost entirely the reason why.

 “Aha~ So you are embarrassed!” 

That much he could easily guess -- just look at that little pout! But it was certainly satisfying to hear the other male admit it. If he weren’t holding his camera and his other arm wasn’t being held captive by the other as they made their way across the hallway, Avery would be tempted to see how far he could go with his teasing and give one of Yaguchi’s flushed cheeks a little pinch.

“How about a simple selfie together instead once we reach the top of the stairs?  I’m sure there’s enough signal in here to post to Instagram.”

[水] -  Mizumachi snickered to himself. It’s true that you couldn’t lose them in a crowd, but they could certainly lose other people in the crowd. When everyone was shorter than them, there was only so much of a difference you could see when you saw the tops of people’s heads as they’re scuffling about in a crowd. 

It’s not like people wear a name tag on the top of their head or anything, so sometimes it was a struggle trying to find someone. Mizumachi would always resort to screaming with his giant lung capacity and making the ones he’s looking for turn towards him and quickly locate him in order to get him to shut up and stop bothering other people with his volume. 

       “Haha! Well yeah, it’s hard to lose us.                I’ve lost others before though.”

Mmmnn… guess not. You can’t really say that making friends is a hobby, he guessed, but he liked doing it. Isn’t that the point of a hobby? It’s something that makes you happy and you like doing it when you aren’t doing something work related, like studying? 

Really, aside from sports, everything he enjoyed doing related to moving his body. 

       “Maybe something like visiting a hot spring?               Is that more of a hobby?” 

Hm… maybe that isn’t either? A small shrug of the shoulders as Mizumachi was on the last finishing stretch of eating his food and he’d be done soon enough. On the topic of whether or not he liked art and photography, he made a quizzical face. 

       “Well I mean, i’m not much of an artsy dude, yanno?                 I can’t really keep still for photos.          I mean, it’s cool and all to look at?                 I do like to read manga every now and again if that counts.” 

That’s as far as he could get when it came to art. 

“Can’t say I haven’t been there myself,” he commented, breathing out a quiet chuckle. Perhaps when standing beside Mizumachi the photographer was the shorter of the two, but such a scenario was definitely uncommon. In fact, he was more than used to being the one looking down to catch the eye of those he spent time with, and if he was being honest he thoroughly preferred things that way. 

Idly, Avery considered pushing himself up onto his tiptoes the next time he and Mizumachi were walking side by side to see how much of a difference it would make, but the thought was quickly brushed aside as their waiter returned to set his dessert down in front of him.

Picking up the fork, he used it to collect a small amount of cream from the top of the coffee cake to test its sweetness. Licking his lips, a hum of satisfaction was given before he continued the conversation. 

“A hot spring? Do they have one of those here? I’ve never visited one myself.”

At this point he was just wondering out loud -- as well as mentally adding it to the list of places he’d have to visit when he was more accustomed to the city he now lived in. 

“I was thinking more along the lines of you being behind the camera, but thank you for the warning. You have a handsome face, but anyone who won’t sit still for longer than five minutes while we try and do our job deserve to have their unflattering angles published.”

Was he joking? Only a little.

[水] - He nodded his head. They were just a couple of Cms taller than him, but it was still something. They were all tall with ridiculously long legs. He got along with them just fine, but Kakei was the one that he got along with the best. The guy really had the physique for the sport… and he was SMART! He was a really good athlete, so it was hard not to be fond of him and look up to him as a fellow athlete. 

He worked everyone hard and made sure that everyone knew what they’re jobs would be. Essentially, he was like the caretaker of the wild dog that Mizumachi was. He’d scold Mizumachi every time he did something wrong or stupid and the blond would always comply by energetically apologizing. 

       “Yeah just a bit taller though, not by much.                 We’re pretty close in height, the four of us.” 

He did miss those guys. He bet that two of them in particular were constantly fighting still. Especially over who was the ‘pupil’ of Kakei. They were all the same age, but the other two pretty much idolized Kakei. With how great of a player he was… could you blame them? 

Eh? Exkuze? What’s that? 

       “I dunno what Exkuze mua is, but a Scrimmage is a game.                American Football is pretty intense.          Full of like… strategy and stuff… but I leave that to the QB.” 

You couldn’t expect Mizumachi to have much of a mind for strategy. It would overwork his brain too much. All you needed to do was give him a role and he’d do it. He’ll faithfully abide by whatever mission he was given. 

       “Ahhh mainly just sports related stuff.                I like playing all kinds of sports.         I guess I also like to work out a lot?                I like making friends, if that counts.” 

Mizumachi was the kind of guy who only needed to move his body a lot to be happy, just like a dog. If he was forced to live a sedentary life, surely he’d go insane. He needed to move around a lot and have fun. Anything else wouldn’t be easily accepted by him. 

Lips pursed as he glanced Mizumachi up and down, Avery could only imagine what it would be like to meet someone even taller than the athlete sitting across from him right now, even if only by a small amount. On one hand, he found the image aesthetically appealing, but on the other, it was kind of annoying. It’s not fair having to look up at someone when you were already so tall yourself, you know?

“I’m sure you could never lose them in a crowd,” he commented idly, fingernails drumming on the table.

Fortunately for him, Mizumachi was the only one he knew who was a head above him, and that much was just peachy for the time being.  

There was a quiet chuckle at the other’s French pronunciation, but he had no room to tease. Even with an explanation, the word ‘scrimmage’ was still lost on him -- as well as ‘QB’, but he didn’t care enough to question more. Just like Mizumachi didn’t have a mind for strategy, Avery was lacking a mind for sports in general... which was probably why he was so surprised to learn he had no other hobbies despite fully expecting such an answer. 

“Is that so? I suppose making friends is a start.” 

Lifting a hand to curl a strand of bright pink around one finger, Avery appeared to be lost in thought before letting out a soft hum, his expression curious.

“It’s not really a hobby though, is it? Maybe I should let you join me sometime, when we’re both free. There’s more to life than sports, you know~ How do you feel about photography? Art? Anything of the sort?”

Kyouya exalted in soaring through the night sky as only a dragon of Nocturne heritage could, swooping down silently to strike his prey like a lightning bolt made of shadow. The victim never stood a chance.

Having eaten earlier in the evening and thereafter cleansing his maw of animal remains, he was simply enjoying the freedom of riding the wind when a sudden movement caught his attention below.

Is that a human…

Violet orbs narrowed in suspicion, for although he wasn’t predisposed to hating humans like some of his kind, there could be no good reason for a human to be skulking around in dragon territory at this hour of the night. Not unless he had nefarious intentions.

Intending to scare the human off, he swooped lower to the ground, causing his wings to softly brush the nearby leaves in passing. The human must have picked up on the noise as he called out into the darkness not long after but he chose to ignore it. The man would be aware of his presence soon enough.

The same could be said for you…

Coming to an abrupt stop just in front of the human with the aim of knocking him off his feet from the air force, he gave a challenging roar which shattered the silence of their surroundings.

Intruders up to no good would not be tolerated!

Nocturne’s were particularly talented at swooping through the air without a sound, and even with with his own draconically heightened senses, Avery was still startled by the sudden appearance of the creature before him; head tucked down and arms lifting to shield his face as he stumbled backwards, barely able to catch his footing as the dragon’s roaring rang in his ears. 

Why so rude, even after he’d addressed any potential company with such politeness? Any fright from the sudden confrontation had quickly vanished, replaced with a fair amount of annoyance. Avery may have looked rather powerless right now, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. 

Looking back up to stare the dragon in the eye, his own golden pupils narrowed into a sharp slit, teeth bared and distinctly non-human in appearance. The feathers that lined his shoulders and framed his face were clearly part of any decoration; appearing ruffled in an instinctual attempt to look bigger and more intimidating in the face of danger -- regardless of the fact his dragon form was nowhere to be seen. 

“I’d think twice before making another move, if I were you.”

The Coatl dragon was no fighter, but his pride would truly be his downfall one day.

      It wasn’t a bad thing, trying to help out one of his coworkers when it involved one of his favorite hobbies. Of course he made himself crystal clear that it was just a means to hang out and while it was still a strange concept to be around the same sex in a friendly manner he was improving on it. He had his friends to thank for that, even if his thoughts wandered to how nice it would be to lead a girl around instead. Old habits died hard and he could only frisk fingers through locks of windblown hair to dismiss them as he spied Avery approaching him through the thick of the crowd. 

      Appearing light and aloof he tossed him a wave, smile cast in such a friendly manner as his companion reached his side. 

      ❝Well~ well~ don’t we look like quite the tourist!❞ He teased after looking him over. Was he supposed to be working? Probably a little harder than he was, but since Avery was there he wasn’t about to ignore him for something he could pass off to someone else in the meantime. He’d make it up to them later and so called one of his partners over to explain he needed to show someone special around to promote the place a little. 

      ❝Think we could even land a shoot here to promote the place beyond those pretty little pictures you’re gonna take today?❞

“I mean, you are giving me a tour of the place, so I might as well dress the part, right?”

How long Kaoru could stay away from his work duties was indeterminate, but what Avery wanted Avery tended to get, and he surely wouldn’t be satisfied until his own job of capturing the aquarium and it’s aquatic residents in the perfect light was complete. Fortunately, this was a win-win scenario for Sea This, considering the photographer was willing to do some promotional work in his free time like the other was quick to suggest.

“Oh? You mean with more people from the agency, too? Or are you planning on being my only model for the time being?” 

A fox-like smile made his own teasing words clear, though he wasn’t entirely joking. Like it or not, but Kaoru would find himself dragged into them either way.
