Cassandra Appreciation Month- Prompt Week- Day Six: Hurt/Comfort
Hereâs another snippet of my upcoming fanfiction. This is deep into Cassandraâs kidnapping and the constant mistreatment has caused her to get sick (it canât be one of my fics without some sickness to spice things up đââď¸) and she gets a little bit of comfort. Is the character who gives her the comfort is trustworthy though? Thatâs up to you to decide.
Her whimpers had turned to raspy screams by the time she was carried into the medicâs office.
âI told those idiots not to let it get this far!â The medic ranted, looking down at his patient, âIâll need to perform some tests on her. Make sure she stays still.â
Cassandra was wrapped in a soft blanket and told to take deep breaths. The medic frantically dug through drawers and cabinets looking for all the equipment he needed.
âIf you want to live, youâll need to cooperate with me, ok?â he said.
Cassandra just looked at him with fearful eyes. Theyâd been so defiant and angry when sheâd first been captured. Now, she just lay there. She didnât have any choice, she was too weak to move.
âPlease stop!â She begged, trying to pull away.
âStay still,â the guard ordered, pressing down on her shoulders.
âI-Iâve talkedâŚwhy are you still torturing me?â
âIâm not torturing you, itâs just a blood test.â
âIs she going into delirium?â The guard asked.
âSheâs starving, exhausted and in a lot of pain, of course sheâs confused,â the medic sighed.
âOw!â Came out in a desperate sob, as he drew some blood, âstop!â
The medic wasnât one for comforting his patients, they were his prisoners, not his friends, but he felt bad for this girl. She was being used as a pawn against her own father. She was innocent.
He put a hand on her head and awkwardly shushed her.
Once the test was done, Cassandra let out an agonising, broken scream.
She tried to reach for her stomach as it violently cramped.
âNo, Cassandra, stay down.â
She was held back down by the guard.
Another scream and several sobs followed.
The medic put his hand on her hair again.
âItâs ok, Cassandra,â he murmured, âyouâre going to be alright.â
âT-This is the worst pain Iâve ever felt!â
âI canât give you painkillers on an empty stomach. Youâll need a very slow introduction to food and drink.â
They sat Cassandra up against the pillows and brought over a tray of soup.
The medic fed it to her. Cassandra immediately tried to gulp it down hungrily , but he stopped her.
âYou need to take it slow, you could get sicker.â
Cassandra looked disappointed but sipped it slower.
âMoreâŚâ she murmured, once sheâd finished.
âI canât give you anymore for a while, your body needs time to adjust.â The medic replied, âI can give you a painkiller though.â
The painkillers helped a bit but nowhere near as much as Cassandra needed. She was still sobbing.
âI could give you some sleeping tonic? Youâll be free from the pain for a while.â
Cassandra nodded, desperately.
âI-Iâm scared,â Cassandra whispered, as the medic laid her back on the bed.
âDonât be scared. Itâs all over, now.â
âAm I dying?â Cassandra asked in a shaky voice.
âNo. Not if I can help it.â
âEverythingâs slower and darkerâŚâ
âYouâre under a sleeping tonic. Youâre going for a nap.â
ââŚwill I ake uppp?â
Her voice was garbled and slurry, barely making sense but the medic was trying his best to understand.
âYes, you will wake up.â
The medic watched as Cassandra drifted off to sleep,
âWhat made you give in?â
âShe gave in. She told me everything.â
I feel mean for this one đ
what do you all think?
