Nanami's voice was restless. it was the middle of the night, almost at the start of dawn, so the tiredness was given. however, within the call, there was something else you couldn't notice. on the other line, you woke up and picked up what seemed to be an urgent call. “through every life. i promise.”
“where is this coming from?" you question, sitting up from the bed. there was a sinking feeling in your stomach, a mess of emotions churning as you barely know how to point it out. his words were sweet, brief, and fairly unusual too. the words had quite delays in between, his voice was still low and hoarse, but almost out of breath. “that’s gonna cost you a long time,” you let out a laugh, shaking off the drowse, “but gladly, i’ll look for you as well.”
you have no idea where he was or what he was doing. yet at this moment, you needed to know how he was. “can you tell me what's wrong?”
blood was seeping through his clothes, he had wounds deeper than a typical stab, scars burning, and a life on the line but— “i love you,” he whispers, content, smiling to himself as he clutches firmly on the phone, wishing it was you. he could've called an ambulance, he could've asked for help from his colleagues. there were numerous choices, possibilities of what he could've done. however, as he lays on the cold concrete, there were no regrets about what he did— to call you and listen to the voice of love, to the solace of his life, to you.
“the sun is rising, Ken,” you softly say, in awe of the view while wishing he also saw the scene— to be under the same sky that basked in comfort, a shed of what he gives you, but a mere reminder of what you might soon to lose. “do you see it?”
