I READ VOLUME FOUR OF LOVE IN THE PALM OF HIS HAND AND AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
hitomi may be one of the most underrated BL mangakas I like. She does angst very well and honestly I think her stories are consistently stronger than Zariya Ranmaru’s (although I also love her work) and her art is also brilliant
Hi Calo is such a great artist but it irks me how much of an age gap most of her ships are like can she not put the 30 year old man with a 18/19 year old?? That’s weird
Everytime I read Hinako’s works I get some form of psychic damage but I always go back to reading Blue Lust despite how problematic it is
legit spat out my drink when River Flows in You started playing when watching 10Dance
happy holidays everyone..
SCREAMS NOT MATSUKA IN THE WILD UNPROMPTED
read the official translation for Ask and You Will Receive and why did they make Shinobu sound like a white Minnesotan man??
Was re-reading Birds of Shangri-La
I was re-reading Birds of Shangri-La because I miss it and want it back so bad, and as I was re-reading I was thinking that Phi reminded me of someone and I was stuck on it for awhile until I realized he reminds me of Ash from Banana Fish and now I'm even more sad
Like they're are both so so traumatized, so guarded, grew up experiencing violence and SA and were taken advantage of based on their looks. I'm just hoping volume 4 when it releases, doesn't have a tragedy tag on it, because if it does I will crash out
I kid about the Ghibli movie Yoshiki is in being Mononoke-hime, but I've been enjoying the little visual references.
Meanwhile, maybe "Hikaru" is in Howl's Moving Castle.
I CALLED IT! Thank you OP for validating
Remember that, of all the ways Yoshiki could have tried killing the not-Hikaru—futile as it may seem to someone in his position—he chose to try to stab him to death.
Despite the obvious—that a knife is an easy lethal weapon that anyone can access—Mokumokuren could have chosen poison, bludgeoning, smothering, or any number of other methods that would have been a less personal way to attack “Hikaru” (though a gun wouldn’t have been likely, with Japan as the setting).
But stabbing is one of the most infamously intimate, emotionally volatile forms of homicide that criminal psychologists often assign to killings driven by sex, unrequited love, jealousy, and crimes of passion. In murder cases, behavioral analysts often equate it to an expression of impotence, of a sexual desire unfulfilled, as a way to lash out at the object of that desire, due to the fact that the act itself is death by violent penetration.
On top of that, Yoshiki stabbed him in his own, unmade bed, where “Hikaru” was lounging comfortably—an image that doesn’t have to be considered intimate, but, contextually, undoubtably, is.
Thesis of the entire story in two pages
I need to stop using the ✨treat yourself✨ excuse because this is how many BL manga I’ve bought in the past three weeks 😩
I’m planning on buying Love in the Palm of His Hand in Japanese when I go to Japan and the English versions of volume 2 and 3 are on preorder because I love Rinteku so so much
1. please ban me from all Barnes & Noble because I cannot control my spending in there
2. I was not aware that people actually get embarrassed holding their wrapped manga in the store and at the cashier counter
*Me shamelessly going up to the counter with my three volumes of Tasogare Out Focus*
I find it funny when queer fantasy stories are written in a setting where homophobia doesn't exist, but there's a ~forbidden romance~ element coming from some completely different, fantastical prejudice. Like
"Son, I don't care if you suck dick, but no child of mine will be sharing a bed with a goddamn necromancer!"
king, pacing the floor : how many times have we told you? prince : dad, i can explain- king : how many times prince : king : prince, sighing : fine dad im sorry i slept with a man- king : YOU SLEPT WITH A COURT JESTER!!!!
I am dying at these tags
this is what I find funny about omegaverse manga sometimes
I don’t care if you’re gay, but you’re an omega?!
Now that the anime adaption has been released and people outside its target audience are seeing it let's all say this together:
A story that's an allegory for queer shame and the struggles of being closeted in a small rural town could not be done if the characters were not queer.
The entire reason Yoshiki is able to sympathize with and become close to "Hikaru" is because he feels that his sexuality makes him a monster. The Summer Hikaru Died and its underlying message can literally be boiled down to "If people can have empathy, love and respect for the literal eldritch horror possessing the protagonist's dead best friend's body maybe you also deserve those things as a queer person."
If you are not willing to understand that this story centers queerness, not only are you not who this story is for, you should not be watching or reading it.
He wants that cookie so fucking badly… in front of everyone’s salad too, just shameless.
"Hikaru" saying "you want to touch me again?" in the middle of class in the most casual way is so amazing, people can HEAR you, lower your voice when you say something like that😭
