Randy Fluggerbutter is the only child in his family, raised by his wealthy parents who own the gaming company Fluggerbutter Inc. Life was easy for Randy growing up for the most part. His parents were often busy with work and left him alone with a nanny, or sent him over to the Muttonfudge home. Randy and Tiffany practically grew up together, with their families being close friends. Similar to Tiffany, Randy was hardly ever told no — he almost always got what he wanted, and if he didn’t he was pretty good at playing the game to turn it back around. He’s always done a great job of putting on a smile and playing innocent when he needs to, but those close to him know that he’s far from that.

On the surface, Randy’s life seems like a dream, but he’s always struggled with feeling satisfied with his life. As a kid, the lack of attention from his parents was the first big issue he faced, a reason for the way he’d sometimes act out. As he grew older, he started growing tired of playing the role of perfect son for his parents and their image. He was hardly grateful for what he had and hated growing up wealthy. He also struggled to get along with his parents when they were around — they always wanted him to be a certain way that he wasn’t, looking down at him when he did start to live his life the way he wanted to. It wasn’t until he dropped out of college that his parents fully showed their disappointment, and Randy was quick to get a place with Tiffany around that time to build a life for himself and finally get his parents off his back. It hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing since moving in together, but neither Tiffany nor Randy have admitted that out loud.

- Although associating with his parent’s company for work isn’t exactly ideal, he does enjoy gaming and streaming. He has a huge social following, and him and Tiff often make couples tiktoks together on top of their streaming.

- They have a dog together named Peanut who is their baby. Randy knows better than to argue when it comes to the outfits that Tiffany put Peanut in and just accepts that for what it is.

- Speaking of outfits, Tiffany often picks Randy’s outfits and they match quite a bit, too.

- There was a temporary moment in their relationship where the two of them took a break, but they were still living together. They never really told anyone about this and have kept it that way for a reason — to the public eye, they remain a power couple.

- Randy sure does drive Tiffany crazy, though. He loves pushing her buttons just to get a reaction out of her. He comes off like an ass, but deep down it is all out of love. She’s his person despite their flaws and they’ve learned to live with that. He’s just not great at showing his affection in a healthy way.

- Speaking of flaws .. Randy has a lot, but his biggest flaw is his drinking problem. It didn’t really become a “problem” until he dropped out of college. Before that, it just seemed like he really liked college parties! But there’s obviously more to it than that. He often goes to “hang out with the guys” so he has an excuse to go out and drink without Tiffany over his shoulder. He invites her when he goes out sometimes, of course, but there are definitely times where he needs the space.

“Pumpkin spice rum,” started and concluded the list of alcohol Glade had to offer. He didn’t drink alone and his place wasn’t really the designated hang-out or even pre-game spot for friends, so he had no reason to keep a stocked bar at home. Keeping something pumpkin-flavored around was just good for personal branding purposes, even if it wasn’t exactly what Randy was expecting when offered a drink. He didn’t feel like the guy could afford to be picky though, so he grabbed the bottle and two glasses and poured. At the risk of annoying Randy again when he might just want to forget everything, Glade prompted, “If you wanna talk about it…”

Randy didn’t have any control over the initial reaction he had, his face scrunching up slightly. Pumpkin spice wasn’t his usual choice, but beggars can’t be choosers, right? Glade didn’t even give him time to answer as he started pouring for both of them. “I don't even know where to start,” Randy replied, meeting Glade’s gaze as he took one of the glasses. He paused, glancing down at the liquid as he could faintly smell the pumpkin spice. “… You didn’t know, right? That Tiff was….” He trailed off, jaw tightening as he stared into the glass instead of at Glade. He didn’t know how to finish that sentence, but he knew his friend could put two and two together. “Would you have said something?”

Though it felt unfair for Randy to insinuate that she had basically been cheating on him—for all intents and purposes, she couldn’t argue with his logic. She could say she hadn’t meant to let Dewey get between them, but hadn’t she known the whole time they’d developed this friendship that he was interested in more with her? Hadn’t she let herself get close to him, knowing he was holding out for her? And hadn’t she kissed him last night, told him she planned to break up with her boyfriend, and asked to talk with him again in a few days? The implication was clear to all three of them that she intended to move forward with Dewey after she and Randy were officially split; a plan to start dating him in the near future was about the same as practically dating him already, although Tiffany would still maintain that she hadn’t been secretly dating him the entire time. She had tried damn hard to make things work with Randy before giving up, which he couldn’t see at all, too wrapped up in his own perspective.

“Why didn’t I end it?” Tiff repeated his question in disbelief. Randy still seemed to be under some delusion that she had intentionally been stringing him along all while knowing she was already checked out from their relationship. He still didn’t understand. “Because I loved you! Because I kept hoping things would change? I wasn’t done until last night proved it never would. You had so many chances to turn things around, every second of every day, and you never fucking cared until it was too late. You can make me the villain in your story if you want, but this would have never happened if you had even tried. But every time it looks like things are getting better between us, you turn around again and let me down. Every. Time.”

She’d been trying not to let the usual waterworks that would spring forth during a moment of high emotions like this start when they began this conversation, but by now the well had seemed to dry up. She had no more tears left to cry for him, apparently. Tiffany laughed humorlessly at the suggestion that Dewey was hiding something from her. Because of course, if Randy couldn’t preserve her opinion of him, he could still try to poison her against his apparent competition. Why wouldn’t he just let it go? Still…she had to hear this, whether there was any shred of truth in what he had to say or not. “Oh, you hardly knew he existed but you know him better than I do, right?” Eye roll. “Sure, tell me the whole story then! Who exactly is he?”

Randy was silent as he listened to Tiffany. Truly listened. This argument, which was likely their final one, was far more painful than the injuries he wore on his face from Dewey. Tiffany was laying it all out in the open, pointing out all of Randy’s faults and making him feel worse. He really did it — he broke them apart. It was much easier to see that in his currently sober state. 

I loved you. The way she worded it stuck out to him like a sore thumb, a sickly feeling in his stomach that wasn’t from his hangover. Her love for him had run out, and Dewey was waiting for her to love him instead. The worst part of it all was that he had no real excuse for why this had happened. They had no idea that the punch he drank at the ball was magically spiked and put him in an out-of-control state. Instead, they were left to assume that he did it simply to be an asshole. How would last night have played out had he not had that punch? Would he and Tiffany have still fought about something else? Would he and Dewey still have fought each other and gotten kicked out?

Whatever the case, he knew Tiffany was right without her even outright saying it: He was the villain. But Tiffany didn’t realize there was another villain in this story. 

It didn’t surprise him that she wasn’t going to believe him, but he persisted anyway, scoffing again as she rolled her eyes. “Yeah, actually. I hardly knew he existed until I woke up in his room one day and found your bracelet in there,” he began, knowing that probably made no sense without context. “Believe me or not, you can ask Louie if you have to, but I swear to god he had some magical amulet, and he and I switched bodies one day. I woke up in his room, in his body, while he was in my body trying to get with you!” Finally admitting it out loud sounded insane; he was well aware of that. But he was so glad he at least had Louie as a true witness. He didn’t think Dewey would fess up to what he did if Tiffany asked him. “You learn a lot about a person when you literally walk a day in their shoes. I learned a lot about him real quick.” The emojis he had saved next to her name on his phone, the sneaking around, and the blatantly obvious ignoring he continued to do about the fact that Tiff was in a relationship; it was all obvious that Dewey had bad intentions from the start, which was what led to last night. “Louie had to help switch us back, but because of the switch, I know he took you on a date pretending to be me. He probably kissed you, too. And I know you lied to me about going over to his place when I saw your bracelet there. But after we switched back, I never got a chance to confront him, until we ran into each other last night…”

Randy sighed. Was it necessary for her to hear the details of their fight? He didn’t trust Dewey to tell the truth, so it was probably better that he explained. “He didn’t even hide the fact that he’s been getting between us. It’s like a game to him, and he was basically rubbing it in my face…” he shook his head in annoyance as he thought back to it. “... So I hit him,” he confessed, “and he hit me back. A lot.” That was the best way to put it without outright saying he got his ass kicked by Dewey. “And then we got kicked out of the ball.” He pursed his lips, looking at Tiffany and trying to read her reaction. He doubted she’d believe him, and it was pretty likely that she would be more pissed knowing Randy threw the first punch. He continued before she could say anything, “Look, I know I fucked up last night. I know I can’t fix this. I wanted to be better, but after all the Dewey bullshit? It got harder and harder once I started piecing things together.” What was the point of trying to fix an already broken relationship? If Tiffany could run around with Dewey, why couldn’t Randy flirt with a random girl on Halloween? At least that was his logic last night — hurt people hurt people.

It was impossible not to match Randy’s scoff with one of her own after his less-than-understanding response. She couldn’t have expected this to be easy, but this was a lack of self-awareness on another level. After everything, he still couldn’t take accountability for his role in the deterioration of their relationship, needing to find somebody else to shift the fault onto. And she understood even better than he did how Dewey was easy to blame—Tiffany couldn’t deny that without him around to make her realize she deserved better, it would have taken her a lot longer to leave. But in the end, wasn’t it inevitable? She and Randy weren’t making each other happy. Of course they had their good days, but those didn’t outweigh the bad, the days that grew the distrust and divide between them exponentially.

“I’m trying to make this as simple as possible,” she told him, her frustration and exhaustion evident. At least his attitude made her feel less like crying at the present moment. “Talking isn’t gonna fix this, because you still don’t get—he didn’t get between us. We have fucking problems, like…when has talking about it ever fixed anything for us? It never changes. And I’m sick of it. I’m done. This shit is toxic, Randy, and you know it too. Why are you even trying to fight me on it?”

It shouldn’t have come as a surprise that Tiffany had no interest in talking, having already decided that this relationship was over. It was understandable, but Randy couldn’t walk away with her missing so much information about Dewey, and how he was a major fault in a lot of this. She clearly saw Dewey as a knight in shining armor, when the reality was he was a shit stirrer within their relationship. 

“There’s nothing simple about this,” Randy countered, their attitudes beginning to match each other. It wasn’t even about them talking to fix things — it was more Randy’s last chance to get Tiffany to see Dewey as a bad guy, to hopefully avoid seeing them get together from here. The last thing he wanted was to witness the two of them dating — It wasn’t fair. “I guess he didn’t get between us on his own huh — you let him. Is that not toxic?” He continued, “If you were done, why didn’t you end it then? Instead you lied, snuck around behind my back. You’re basically dating him already… I didn’t even know you two were friends.”

It was the body swap that random Friday that Randy was unsure how to explain. Magic wasn’t a taboo thing where they lived but they personally didn’t have much involvement in magic normally— this was new territory for them. “I’m fighting you on this because you don’t know the whole story. He’s been lying to you too, Tiff. He’s not who you think he is.”

Think about me, is what she thought, fingers still running through the strands of his hair. She could make him happy if he did. Not like Tiff— who clearly never did a great job as his girlfriend if this is how she let things end after years of both Randy and her being together. So what if Randy hadn’t been so perfect himself? He was just a flirt, and everyone knew that flirting can be harmless fun if you don’t take any of it seriously. Hell, the Racers flirt among themselves all the time!

“Think of this as a new beginning for you—” Is what Jackie ended up saying instead, pausing as she looked down at him, her gaze locking with Randy’s. “Like, try and spin this situation as a good thing instead of a bad one.” It was easier said than done, she got that, and she can bet that he wouldn’t take that advice as lightly either because how can he view his breakup with Tiffany as a good thing when she was the one who cheated? Simple, now that he wasn’t tied down to her, Randy finally had all the freedom to do whatever he wanted. Or whoever he wanted. “If she wants to move on with someone else, so can you! You have the chance to find someone better— the opportunity to show her you can find someone better.” Like me, the brunette once again thought. She could be better for him.

With a sigh, she shook her head. “I didn’t have a single clue.” She honestly said. If Tiff had told her about this Dewey guy sooner than for sure she would have mentioned it to Randy. Unless she had been promised to secrecy to not bring it up to him— ugh, who was she kidding, Jackie so would’ve broken girl code and mention Dewey to Randy even if Tiff had made her promise. She wasn’t Candice, if Tiff wanted to cheat than her boyfriend had the right to know. “She never mentioned hanging out with some other guy who wasn’t part of the crew. And if she had, I would’ve told you…… I genuinely thought you two were going strong.”

A new beginning. Randy nodded as he listened. Though it would likely be difficult to spin it as a good thing while he dealt with the aftermath (physically and mentally), perhaps it would turn out better in the end once he adjusted.

It was a toss-up on whether or not he even wanted to completely move on — sure, he’d been stupidly flirting with a random at the ball, drunk and not thinking clearly, but a completely new relationship was a whole different story. Randy never did well on his own though… he’d been wrapped around Tiff’s life for so long that he wasn’t sure what it was like to completely function without her. He felt so lost, but at least he knew he wasn’t completely alone.

He sighed as Jackie admitted having no clue about Dewey, believing her without a second thought. There was no reason she’d lie to him, but it was strange to think that Tiffany had kept Dewey from so many of them all this time. “Everyone thought we were going strong,” Randy corrected her. It was all part of protecting their perfect image for their fans. Now it was completely shattered. “I doubt you knew about this either, but .. there was a time when Tiff and I did take a break from each other,” he confessed. “We wanted to keep it private back then, so we kept it between us..”

Randy was asking way too many questions. Louie couldn’t blame him for having these concerns at all, but he didn’t know how he was supposed to answer them. He had nothing to do with this mess—but of course Dewey had left him here to deal with the aftermath alone. After he’d warned him to be careful messing around with Tiffany. Louie shouldn’t even bother covering for his brother; he should just tell Randy what he knew…But he couldn’t do that. At the end of the day, his loyalty to his brother had to outweigh his loyalty to a friend.

“Magic works in mysterious ways,” he said with a shrug. “Maybe the switch was a coincidence, maybe it’s because you both have something to learn from each other. It’s hard to say without knowing anything about this amulet…” He busied himself studying the amulet, wishing that could’ve been the end of it, but he couldn’t keep avoiding all the questions about Tiffany without being even more suspicious. “Oh, yeah, Tiff did come over to hang out last night,” he answered. As far he knew that was the extent of it. And he could act like he didn’t know that Randy didn’t know about the friendship between those two, remove himself from the secrecy. “Hey, maybe the amulet switched you and Dew so you could pick up the bracelet she left. Heh.”

Randy was pretty unfamiliar with magic, so to him it made sense if Louie had more answers, now knowing he’d been on many adventures with his family that included magic. Still, despite Louie’s attempts to explain the situation, he didn’t feel all that convinced. Something strange was happening, and Randy was going to find out what. 

“She did?” Randy answered in surprise although he was already suspicious. Why would she hang out here without Randy? Louie was acting off himself, like he was doing his best not to slip up or say the wrong thing... This was so bizarre. “... Does she hang out here a lot?” He asked next, hesitantly. He shrugged as Louie continued. “I don’t know man… but if I’m here, that means…” He’s with her. He looked at Louie with a knowing look, aware he didn’t have to say it out loud for his friend to understand. “So what do we do now?”

“That’s—ooh!” Tiffany squeaked as Randy gave her a surprise ass-grab, flushing in embarrassment and hoping nobody’s eyes were drawn their way because of it. She loved attention, sure, but only the right kind. Halfheartedly slapping his chest in reprimand, because she wasn’t really mad but bad behavior had to be discouraged (dogs were so much easier to train than boyfriends), she leaned in even closer and spoke under her breath. “Let’s just leave after dinner; we have dessert at home.” Unless they were sitting with someone heinous, in which case there was an emergency and they had to leave immediately. That much went unspoken.

Randy unapologetically smirked as he heard the surprise squeak escape Tiffany’s lips. He knew no one else was paying enough attention to notice, but he also wouldn’t have cared if anyone else did see. She obviously wasn’t really mad as she hit his chest, especially as she leaned in closer and quietly promised him dessert at home. “Better than any dessert they’re serving here I bet,” he agreed as he gave her a quick peck on the lips. Damn, he was ready for this dinner to be over with. He suddenly had a sweet tooth.

The way Dewey was staring at her so intensely and obviously scrutinizing her made Tiffany want to put on her sunglasses. She was already feeling weird enough with the turn her thoughts had taken since she was reminded of Randy, and it was off-putting to feel like Dewey was actively trying to read her mind. It definitely didn’t help when he asked about her boyfriend, and his emphasis on “he” was certainly a choice that did not go unnoticed. Tiff raised her brows at him, but didn’t comment on his obviousness.

“He’s…” She started, but paused to consider what she actually wanted to tell him. There should be no reason she shouldn’t be honest about her relationship with someone who was just a friend, but some part of her still hesitated to shut Dewey down completely when she could tell he was always waiting for a chance to take his shot. Thinking back on the morning she’d had with her boyfriend, though, Tiff couldn’t help but smile; he deserved for her to hype him up, just like Dewey deserved not to be led on by her general lack of excitement towards her relationship, which she knew was probably the main thing continuing to give him hope. The way things were looking up that day really might spell out a game changer for her and Randy, the spark revived between them, so she needed to stop keeping her options with another man so…open. “He took me to the beach for a picnic earlier,” she admitted. “He was, like, super sweet and romantic this morning, too? I don’t know. It was just really nice. So, yeah, he’s good, we’re doing good.”

The pause as Tiffany began to answer had Randy anxiously waiting for what she planned to say. He’d never been so observant about his girlfriend in all the years they’d been together; it was insane to think that a situation such as a freak body swap was what it took to make the male actually pay attention. How she responded was crucial though, for it would give him a better understanding of Tiffany and Dewey’s dynamic and what she was comfortable telling him when Randy wasn’t around. He didn’t want to assume she’d talk shit, but the day was full of surprises as it was. Plus, she may have had information on where Randy’s body currently was while he was elsewhere in Dewey’s.

Then, she smiled, and Randy’s curiosity grew even more as she expressed how they went on a beach picnic together. That was … very out of character for Randy, and he wondered if she picked up on that at all. Hearing that he was sweet and romantic when it wasn’t actually him was weirdly discouraging and confusing. At least he was getting the credit for it? But did that really make it any better? “Huh,” he breathed out in surprise, hands still in his pockets. “That’s… surprisingly cool,” he continued, trying to sound nonchalant but almost coming off as jealous. “I’m glad things are good between you two.” And he did mean that, even if it wasn’t himself who gave her a good day. He wasn’t sure if the statement came off insincere or not. Randy had so many questions in his mind but he was momentarily distracted as they arrived at their destination. He opened the door for Tiffany to the frozen yogurt shop and let her enter ahead of him. “Ladies first.”

“Sorry...” Comfort was never really Glade’s strong suit. He was always good for a laugh, a prank, scheme or at his best, a solution to technical issues. Matters of the heart weren’t something he had ever been relied upon to deal with as the youngest and most notoriously prone to mischief in their friend group. As much as he cared about his friends, he just wasn’t sure what to say to help Randy right now. After he'd had a major (probably relationship-ending) fight with his girlfriend and getting his ass handed to him by someone who Tiffany may or not have been seeing on the side—was there anything Glade could do for his friend? “You want a drink?”

Randy didn’t mean to snap at Glade, but he was in a pretty negative headspace right now. His head and his body hurt, he wanted to go home but he didn’t think he even could after his fight with Tiffany. Chances were high that he’d be crashing at his parents again soon enough, but he didn’t want to be alone tonight which was how he ended up at his friend’s house instead. He sighed in defeat as Glade apologized. “Me too..” Glade didn’t deserve to be wrapped into this, he knew that. At his next question, Randy nodded. “Yeah.. what do you have?”

It was hard to know whether Randy’s apparent willingness to talk meant that he was going to make this conversation easy on her, or if this was just the calm before yet another storm. They’d already weathered their worst fight yet last night; Tiffany didn’t think she had it in her to go through another. If Randy already knew what was coming, hopefully they could have a civil conversation here, but if he still wasn’t expecting to break up after yesterday, how would this go? Tiffany took her seat and stayed silent for a long moment. Despite knowing what she needed to do, and wanting to, that didn’t make this any easier. Randy was her first love. From that perspective, he had once been her best friend, too—and she wasn’t sure they could ever get that back after breaking each other’s hearts.

“This isn’t working,” she finally said, ripping off the band-aid. “Our relationship. We can’t live like this.” She could only manage to speak in short, clipped sentences, trying to keep her composure and not burst into tears from the emotional gravity of the conversation. Getting the most important part out was already a weight off her chest, but it wasn’t over yet.

Randy mentally braced himself — though he knew deep down where this conversation was headed, he still needed to prepare, especially with the hangover and pain he was experiencing. He couldn't let her end things between them without stating his case, or rather laying out exactly what he knew about Dewey Duck. Did Tiffany even really know this dude at all? 

Silence lingered between them, Randy’s mind racing with things he needed to bring up: the sneaking around, the day he’d swapped bodies with Dewey, finding her bracelet in his room, Dewey kicking his ass the previous night... There was much to discuss, but Tiffany seemingly wanted to make this quick and easy. Randy scoffed in disbelief. “What kind of generic breakup shit is that?” Maybe he should’ve expected it after he acted last night, but he continued to be stubborn because, in his eyes, he wasn’t completely in the wrong. “You're serious? That's your version of talking? ... How about we talk about him getting between us?"

At the sight of that text lighting up the screen of her phone, Jackie knew that this was going to be one of those nights. It was late in the evening, and while most had chosen to attend the Halloween Ball, the brunette had decided not to attend. She meant to, had her outfit decided with it’s matching mask and everything, however, just as she was about to step foot outside the door of her home, her parents had refrained her for they wanted to talk to her. To say the least, after a rather drawn out and and mentally draining conversation with her mother and father, the brunette hadn’t been much for a partying mood. And so she stayed home. Which now, after responding back with a ‘No? Why?’ text to Randy, had her wondering if maybe she should have. And after a couple of back and forth messages, she now found herself sitting against the couch at Randy’s parent’s home, with Randy’s head laying against her lap. Gently running her fingers through his hair as an attempt to sooth him, Jackie shook her head. She couldn’t believe what she was told. Tiffany had cheated on Randy with some other guy, and she’s been doing so for months??? Then she had the guts to run away with him at the ball even for sometime and then this same guy dared to start a fight with her Randy, leaving marks and imperfections on to his handsome face— the sight in which had horrified her when she saw him after coming here. 

“This is all fresh for you, obviously you’re going to keep thinking about them. But you know what you need to start doing instead?” Jackie began, once again running a hand through his hair, this time curling the ends with her finger just as she continued. “—Stop thinking about them.” She advised. Oh, how she was secretly pissed off inside for Randy at this news. Yeah, it was no secret that despite for how long Tiff and Randy has been together, that their relationship wasn’t as perfect as to seemed. Ooh, how Jackie knew how un-perfect it was, with the way the two were constantly breaking up before getting back together again, she never understood why the two didn’t stay broken up for good. Then again, in most cases, Randy was the reason behind their constant break up, as he would always flirt with another girl, causing Tiff to get jealous and break up with him. And yet despite knowing that her boyfriend had the habit of straying, her friend would always take him back. And maybe that was because Randy never did anything more than flirt. So it was shocking to hear that it had been Tiff who cheated in the end. “Besides, how can you say you're left behind? You have me, and I’m so not about to let you deal with all this alone.”

The feeling of Jackie’s fingers running through his hair was soothing, helping Randy temporarily forget about his battered face and the heartache that came after it. Obviously Tiffany wasn't going to sympathize with him, especially after the fight, and he knew his parents hardly would either upon their return; at least he had Jackie to do so instead.

Maybe he shouldn’t have been so butthurt about the breakup, about Dewey and Tiffany — after all, this was what he’d wanted. He spent so long complaining about Tiffany and behaving as if he wasn’t happy with his relationship … was he only upset because Dewey had what he couldn’t? Or was he realizing that he should’ve appreciated what he had before it was too late? Either way, the alcohol prevented him from fully processing any of that. He tried to focus on the present moment with Jackie instead, enjoying the peace and quiet of his parents' big house with her.

“I know,” he sighed. “But what do I think about instead?” Packing his stuff, leaving his and Tiffany’s home … everything revolved around Tiffany in his life. It was going to be a huge adjustment for him, and simply not thinking about it was easier said than done. Still, a small smile formed at the brunette’s reassurance. “Thanks … I’m not sure we can say the same for everyone else.” There was no telling what would happen within the friend group, whether their friends would pick sides or stay neutral. It was far too early in the breakup to see how things turned out with everyone else, but he still wondered. “.. So you really had no idea about her and Dewey either?”

It had been a long night, from the events of the Halloween party to the debrief at her best friend’s house afterwards. Even after Candice eventually fell asleep, Tiffany couldn’t get any rest knowing that she was going to have to go home the next day and officially end her long-term relationship. Even knowing it was the right choice, it still hurt—like cutting off a poisoned limb. Knowing she probably looked like shit due to her night of crying and lack of beauty sleep, she was surprised to see how much worse Randy looked when she finally went home and saw him icing a bruised face.

“What the fuck, Randy,” she breathed, softening for the slightest moment. Despite her resolve to end things with him, she never wanted to see him actually hurt like this. But she couldn’t help imagining he brought it upon himself, instigating whatever altercation led him to look like this while he was angry last night. “Did you get into a bar fight or—?” From the look on his face, she could tell that wasn’t it, and her fingers itched for her car keys, to head right back out and find Dewey, who she was suddenly sure had been on the other side of the brawl. But she could meet him later, once she and Randy were finished. Her expression hardened. Whatever had happened to leave him in this state, it didn’t affect the choice Tiffany had already made during their own fight the previous night. They were breaking up, now; this development wasn’t going to make her lose her resolve. “We need to talk."

Randy noticed Tiffany's red and puffy eyes, evidence that she also had a rough night. He was obviously the worse off between the two physically, but that didn't stop guilt from forming in the pit of his stomach. Now that he was seeing her face-to-face and sober, he was feeling much worse. Everything about the situation was fucked up, Randy's head spinning from it all — he recognized that he fucked up, that he was fucked up, but he also didn't think that Dewey was innocent, either.

"Yeah, what the fuck," Randy repeated with a heavy sigh. He shook his head slowly at her next question, watching the shift in Tiffany's demeanor as it clicked what must have happened. Her momentary concern for Randy visibly disappeared, which confirmed to him where this conversation was about to be headed. Randy removed the ice from his face and motioned for Tiffany to sit across from him. "I know.. so let's talk."

What started as Randy drunk texting Jackie hav u talked 2 Tiff?? soon turned into Randy inviting her over. Well, over to his parents. After the official breakup, both Tiffany and Randy went off their separate ways from the house, Tiffany likely checking on Dewey upon learning about the fight, and Randy going to his parents' house knowing no one would be there. The Fluggerbutters went on yet another vacation without their son for Halloween, unaware that they’d be returning home to their only child beginning to move his things back in. In the meantime, Randy got into his dad’s stash of alcohol again, which was what led him to this point. It was honestly a relief that he could have his parents' place to himself for a few days, to not hear them bitch and complain the moment they heard the news about the breakup. Instead, he wanted to be around the one person that he knew wouldn’t judge him or make him feel bad about everything that happened — Jackie. His face was still not pretty but he was taking a short break from icing it, practically feeling numb by now with a little thanks to his dad’s booze. Now, he was lying across the couch with his head in Jackie’s lap, looking up at her with sad eyes. Maybe it was the emptiness he was feeling that made him want Jackie's attention tonight, or maybe it was because he knew deep down that they'd had brief moments of flirting in the past that they never really talked about — was he doing this just to spite Tiffany, knowing she had Dewey by her side to comfort her and make her happy? Right now, he wasn't sober enough to think that deeply into it. He was just glad he didn't have to be alone tonight. Randy sighed. "I just keep thinking about them together," he confessed. "They get to be happy and then I'm just... the asshole that gets left behind."

There was an eerie feeling as Randy got home before Tiffany, even if he had already expected her absence. He checked on Peanut, attempted to clean himself up (but was unable to wash away all of the aftermath of the fight, of course), and he thought about Halloween and what the hell had happened the previous night — now that he was sobered up, he was feeling like a dumbass. His anger had somewhat subsided, reality was beginning to settle in and .. well, he was more than feeling the consequences. Unsure of when Tiffany would be home, he sat in the kitchen and iced his face again in the meantime, dreading the conversation to come. He wasn’t sure how Tiffany was going to react to his bruises, or if she already knew to expect it (it wouldn’t surprise him if she was with Dewey right now, while he played the victim), but he wasn’t looking forward to the aftermath regardless… He had a feeling that just blaming the liquor and simply saying he wasn’t himself last night wouldn't make up for how he treated her, and the fight would likely only piss her off more. Unknowing that there was more than just liquor spiked in the punch, a magical interference that brought out the worst in him, Randy had nothing else he could point the blame to but himself. He likely looked like a dog with its tail tucked between his legs as Tiffany finally did get home, unable to even attempt to force a smile as she came into view in the kitchen. “Hey…”

"Guilty of what?" Tiffany didn’t know exactly what would happen if she admitted that she was guilty, but she certainly wasn't going to accept blame without any solid accusations. Yes, she’d kept Dewey a secret, but that didn’t mean she had treated him any differently than her other friends. Her reasons for keeping him to herself were all internal; she wasn’t running around flirting with Dewey or doing anything else like Randy seemed to imply. She resented the fact that he was even putting her on trial like this when he was the one literally being caught in the act—and while she couldn't predict the outcome of this fight, she was more than sure that she couldn't expect him to just forgive and forget any transgressions if she pleaded guilty. The more he tried to turn this on her, to excuse his own behavior like it was just fine as long as he admitted to it, the angrier she got. She'd dug her heels in too far to turn around now.

“Surprised I noticed?” she repeated in disbelief. “What, like you haven’t thought I was a control freak and micro-manager our whole relationship? Who you apparently need to escape from? You think I haven’t noticed every time you’ve flirted with someone else?” This wasn’t new, and it wasn’t a response to her spending more time with Dewey lately (however Randy even knew about that.) It was a pattern that existed well before she started hanging out with Dewey, part of what had pushed her to accept validation outside of her own boyfriend in the first place.

Tiffany couldn’t even string together a logical argument after that one—where she should have emphasized that, yeah, it was textbook sneaking because he lied about it, she was still caught on Randy saying he had to have a life outside of her, an escape from this bullshit. It was hard to mount a strong defense when her hands shook and her eyes filled with tears. Humiliating as always that she was driven to crying so easily, her body’s first response to any strong stressor. Which part was he calling bullshit—their whole relationship, or just her having a man in her life who actually treated her decently? She suddenly didn’t want to downplay it anymore, refusing to treat her own feelings as trivial. That was what it came down to: whether it was romantic or not, Dewey made her feel valued and that wasn’t meaningless. But the fact that Randy wanted to mess around and do stupid, meaningless shit—

“That’s even worse!” Could he really not see that? She felt like she was taking crazy pills here. If he fell in love with someone else, it would hurt like a bitch, but at least there would be some level of helplessness there. The heart wants what it wants, and all that. Randy flirting with other women with no meaning behind it practically meant that he just wanted to hurt her, with nothing else in it for him. If he was willing to disrespect her and their relationship for no reason, that just showed how little he truly cared. “Does anything you do mean anything? Do my feelings mean anything to you, or is that all just stupid bullshit too?”

"What? Like you don't know?" Randy was ready to expose everything he knew right there — the bracelet she left at Dewey's, the obvious flirting between them, the way he experienced the norm between them firsthand when Dewey switched bodies with him, from their fro-yo date to even the flirty emojis next to her name in his phone — but he stopped himself. They were still in public, even if Tiff had dragged him away, and she had no idea about the magical interference that helped Randy realize what she'd been hiding. And if she were really mad about that, she could thank Dewey the next time she saw him.

"While I'd love to unpack all the bullshit you've been pulling behind my back right now, we should wait until we're alone," he finally answered, frustrated that he even had to lay out the obvious to her. She was clearly avoiding showing any guilt, despite what he already knew. He almost hoped they'd leave it there for now — wait until they got home to continue this fight and unpack everything — but Tiffany wasn't ready to back down.

As she began to point out what Randy had said about her in the past — her controlling attitude, her clinginess, the way he felt suffocated by her — he couldn't understand how she was missing the obvious. If Randy had really been so sick of Tiffany, he would've broken up with her (and not come back) years ago, and the same could be said for her. Even if he complained about her and they fought, the distance and the fights always reminded him why he loved her and to not give up on each other. However, things changed. Now that her attention had been taken by Dewey and her feelings were so obviously shifting, exactly what Randy had been afraid of was happening. The spark between them was long gone, and he was part of the problem. By giving them space and escaping in an attempt to not drive each other insane, he pushed her too far away. Were either of them willing or able to pull the other back in and not lose what little love was left? Even with that thought in the back of his mind, that he could very well lose Tiffany from this, his frustration and intoxication overpowered the logic. Instead, he kept digging deeper.

"Nothing I do is enough for you, you know that? I escape from you and flirt with other girls because it's so obvious that nothing I do will make you happy." Their relationship may as well have been a game, both of them fighting to keep each other interested but both were losing; the hot and cold game was fun at first, but it got old. Maybe it was a sign that they were growing up, growing out of each other in the process. "You can blame it on all the shitty things I've done, but I know that even on my good days, you've still gone to him." It wasn't exactly fair when Randy wasn't the one who'd given her the good day he was specifically referring to, where Dewey gave Tiffany a romantic date in his body, but he was sure it applied to other instances; they had good times together too, like Sharpay's party. Were Tiffany and Dewey talking back then, too? Did she still think of him when they were supposedly happy and having a good night together? "Even on our worst days, it's always been you Tiff. I know I'm not perfect, but I'm not fucking hiding it. You still keep pretending, and for what? Who the fuck are you fooling?"

The punch and the anger were mixing within him and making Randy feel warm, noticing now that Tiffany's eyes were starting to well with tears. He didn't think it was worse. Wasn't romantic feelings more of a heavy blow than a few flirty exchanges? Where was the loyalty? "No, not when it's all an act. The only thing you care about is how your fans perceive you, and it is bullshit!" He'd never been this harsh with Tiffany before, but he was still aware of their surroundings. "Do you really care so much about what everyone's gonna think? Then stop crying in public and causing a scene."

Chocolate and peanut butter wasn’t an unusual combination in any way, but it was such a Randy staple that Tiffany’s nose automatically scrunched in response to Dewey providing it as his flavor of the day. Maybe those two were such opposites that it just seemed weird they would even like the same thing…Then again, they both liked her, didn’t they? Maybe their tastes were similar after all. Tiffany felt immediately guilty thinking that. She had been having a great morning with her boyfriend earlier, but now here she was with Dewey, and…What did it mean that she kept comparing both of them? She loved Randy, but whenever he frustrated her, her mind swayed toward Dewey. Sometimes she could almost forget about her boyfriend entirely when with Dewey, but then something would remind her of him and she would get antsy.

“Yeah,” she said, hoping to sound normal when she answered. Dewey probably didn’t know how conflicted their friendship made her over something as simple as fro-yo. “Peanut butter cups, too. Those are Randy’s favorites,” she added. Tiff didn’t know why she had to bring him up, besides to remind both of them that he existed, that their relationship status meant he was always here, between them, even when he wasn’t.

At least Randy knew she hadn't completely forgotten about him, watching her expression as he mentioned his favorite flavor combo. He was probably watching Tiffany more closely than ever before, listening to even the slight shift in her voice as she responded. It almost surprised him to hear his name get brought up, a relief but also strange. She clearly didn't have a problem talking about her boyfriend with Dewey, so what was up? He just didn't care that she was taken?

"Oh, yeah?" He tried not to sound too interested, stuffing his hands in his pockets as they continued toward the fro-yo shop. Randy seized the opportunity to get his girlfriend to talk about him more; he couldn't help but be curious about what his body had been up to all day, and what Tiffany might have to say. What was she comfortable with telling Dewey, exactly? Randy cleared his throat awkwardly, "So, uh .. What's he been up to?"
