“... Without your wound where would your power be? It is your very remorse that makes your low voice tremble into the hearts of men. The very angels themselves cannot persuade the wretched and blundering children on earth as can one human being broken on the wheels of living. In Love’s service only the wounded soldiers can serve. Draw back.”
-Thornton Wilder
acceptance, dear self,
need not be sought
it existed before you knew your sin
it is given by the One who knows no sin
and is passed through the ones He gives you.
You are loved, dear self.
Deeply. Fully. Freely.
Jess
when you see Jesus looking at you, what do you see in his eyes?
As Blaise Pascal wrote, "God made man in his own image and man returned the compliment." Thus, if we feel awful toward ourselves, we assume that God feels hateful toward us.
Brennan Manning, Abba’s Child
“Men, now-a-days, do not read their Bibles, and they have for the most part no religion. They have a religion, which is all outside show, but they do not think of searching to see what its meaning really is. Sirs, it is not the cloak of religion that will do for you, it is a vital godliness you need; it is not a religious Sunday, it is a religious Monday; it is not a pious church, it is a pious closet; it is not a sacred place to kneel in, it is a holy place to stand in all day long. There must be a change of heart, real, radical, vital, entire.”

Forget about the grace for tomorrow.
Live by what is provided for today.
Tomorrow will take care of itself.
Keep growing Jess.
You’re like a tree 🌱
Time will show healing on you.

I think of feelings like waves; powerful and all consuming, but unable to hold an anchor.
The deeper we swim, the closer we can see where our thoughts and decisions should be anchored.
The more shallow we swim, the more likely we are to be distracted by the strength of the waves.
I have a love-hate relationship with my feelings. A few times a month, they fluctuate at the slightest trigger and often determine my mindset for hours on end. Sometimes, they plunge me into needless obsessive thoughts. Other times, they make me feel warm, fuzzy and all-together awesome.
But.
My faith is anchored on the truth of who God is beneath those feelings- Good, Righteous, Consistent, Forgiving, Loving, Just, All Consuming and More than Enough.

Feelings matter... but they cannot be your guiding principle.

A stronger faith can emerge through a siege of doubt; both holiness and faith are forged in the fires of temptation
