So many people infantilize Finn/think he’s dumb when actually, he’s resourceful and came up with a lot of life-saving plans. He quickly adapts to any situation and you can see why he was such a good Stormtrooper that Phasma deemed him Officer material. Here’s a quick list :
- Despite being traumatized by the battle on Jakku (which happened just hours before) and scared to death of the First Order, he came up with an escape plan in a matter of minutes. He straight up snatched an important prisoner, freed him, stole a TIE fighter and flew away with said prisoner.
- When troopers start shooting at him and Rey on Jakku, he’s very quick to react, his Stormtrooper experience allowing him to predict how they will strike. It allows him to pull Rey and himself out of the market without being killed.
- He adapts incredibly fast to new weapons. It is repeated several times that his weapon of choice is a blaster, and he gets to use it only once or twice throughout the movie. Instead, he has to learn how to use different ships’ shooting commands and a lightsaber, and despite having never used these things before he quickly became really good at it.
- When he and Rey were on the Falcon and they thought the First Order had captured the ship, Finn got the idea of using the poisonous gas leak they were fixing to poison the intruders. I mean, not everyone could come up on the spot with this kind of genius plan.
- Finn used his knowledge of Starkiller base to point out the machine’s weaknesses to the Resistance, which allowed them to win and save the rest of the Galaxy.
So yeah, Finn has a really good survival instinct, he’s very smart and a quick learner, and he constantly uses his Stormtrooper training to fight back against the very organization that turned him into a Stormtrooper. Amazing.
