What's up?

on this blog i'll be writing VERY INFORMAL essays on things i enjoy- mainly, this is how i'll get out my feelings about my hyperfixations since i don't know many people that actually like the same stuff as me. this will be rambling posts, dipper pines style. my tag for yapping is #waxing to you guys. i don't post often.

autism and media. spoilers for criminal minds, my hero academia, and dungeon meshi.

okay so, i'm an autistic person, and i've seen portrayals of autism (both implied and explicit) and they've had.. a range of quality overall.

in explicit examples, i've seen only a few. spencer reid comes to mind first- the autistic savant with an eidetic memory and a penchant for seeming robotic. i, personally, was heavily influenced by this guy- i did (and kind of still do) enjoy criminal minds after all. however, spencer's existence as one of the first explicitly autistic characters that was seen by a wider audience. the show was insanely popular, but in the later seasons (mainly after he was sent to prison) many of his autistic traits seem to fade away. of course, he is a traumatized man who was on high alert for a WHILE, but one would expect he wouldn't lose many of his core personality traits. personally, i think these were written out since his traits weren't seen as "popular", since autistic people can offend those they love or say the wrong thing on accident and it seemed too weird.

second, my hero academia. i don't think any of these characters are explicitly autistic, but i haven't watched in a while. mainly, i see deku and tamaki as autistic (although bakugo, aizawa, and shigaraki are.... suspicious) and i believe my views on these two are mainly influenced by the rest of the fandom, so here goes. overall, i think the characterization of these two lends itself directly to their emotional or anxious nature. most media i see with one or both of them severely dumbs them down to these traits, with tamaki getting the brunt of this treatment. most don't seem to remember that both of them are strong for their age, smart, and have faith in their quirks. even if tamaki might seem pessimistic about fights, he's just that- pessimistic. he's much more inclined to believe he'll lose because if he does, he's prepared to do what he can to help whoever comes after. deku is emotional, yes, but who wouldn't be? he's a teenager who's been told over and over again that he's a failure and he'll never achieve his dream, and suddenly, he's being helped by the #1 hero to become the person that he thought was unattainable. i think horikoshi's representation of them is alright, it's just mainly the fandom that compresses them into "uwu anxious cinnamon rolls too sweet for this earth" instead of remembering they're multifaceted characters, and damaging their own interpretations of real people in the process.

in dungeon meshi, i don't know if they're explicitly autistic (however laios and falin are HEAVILY HINTED AT so.) but the representation of autism here is incredible. in the series, we see laios fuck up with shuro (and, notably, we see the fandom sweep it under the rug because laios is white) while he has real, genuinely close relationships with others (marcille is like a sister to him, and chilchuck's his best friend) so we know he is a multifaceted character. he's also tied to the tendency of autistic people to be interested in fringe interests, or alterhuman circles. he thinks (like many others) that he's weird enough to people, so he throws all caution to the wind and goes all-in on being weird. i know that when i realized i was "too weird" for others, i just stopped caring, and that's how i got into many of my favorite things- like OFF, house of leaves, etc etc. if they thought i was weird then, i don't really want to know what they think i am now, especially since i'm out here playing obscure meta rpgs or reading books that require me to flip them around.

overall, i think the representations of autistic people in media have a long way to go. there is still a critical shortage of autistic poc in media, and many representations of autism are still influenced by the savant stereotype we see with spencer reid (see: the good doctor) and there's still a variety of symptoms that haven't been shown accurately yet. i'm very proud of where we've come, though- now, i can see an incredibly accurate portrayal of myself in laios, but there's still many autistic people who haven't seen someone they can relate to on the silver screen.

just watched vita carnis (and went to the hidden youtube link) and ouugghhgh the implications...

okay so, i think vincent bararre's a BIG part of the story- since he had gathered information on the carnis and became a wanted man in canada. in terms of who CARCAS is... i don't really know? i do think they've got a reason to be doing what they're doing but i don't know if they're a governmental entity, or a form of rebellion against the carnis, i just don't know.

now... i'm gonna say something that people don't really agree with. i don't think the prince's tale is some super old story. i think that just before the carnis began appearing, the prince's tale was playing out on that island in hudson bay. i think the critters that found him and helped him heal quicker were humans that saw the potential of the carnis and fed it so that it'd grow and hopefully help humanity. when the prince woke up and worked his magic is when i think the carnis appeared- i think the prince made the carnis to help them, each with different uses. the crawl is for food, the trimmings for comfort, the meat snakes for waste, the mimics for culling humanity's population (and, in a way, cutting down on pollution by just. eating people), the harvester to enrich the soil, the host to make spores that'd force people to help the carnis, the monoliths to protect, and the singularities to power the carnis itself. i think the critters in the forest are meant to represent humanity- and at a time when people began to give a shit about pollution, their home wasn't as bountiful- so the prince gave them what he could. do i know where the prince or the royal family are from? nope!!

i think vincent's story is pretty important too. he's a guy who found his father torn to shreds in his home, then the cops just didn't do anything about it? i'd be pretty miffed too. however, he is outright wanted by the CSIS (for my americans, it's like the canadian version of the CIA) and it's likely he's in grave danger at the moment. i don't really know much else about him (but i do know that after watching the tape with chris and janice, he sighs- knowing the people who tried to find out what happened to his father are now dead must suck.)

for CARCAS, i don't really know much. i do know that in the video where they invade facility zero, the static is green- the exact opposite of red. i feel as though this is a turning point in the carnis. however, seeing the singularities, i was reminded of the giant meat snake from episodes before that used cow skulls as huge teeth. this makes me think, was the cult trying to force a singularity by making a huge mass of meat? maybe the snake was foreshadowing? or maybe the cult wasn't as scientifically advanced, and they tried to make the closest thing to a singularity they knew? i'm not entirely sure. however, i'm scared to know whether or not there are more singularities honestly.

overall great series. facility 0 had me jaw dropped hand over my mouth the entire time and when i saw the singularities i GASPED. super cool i hope to see whatever else there is for it

i'm feeling a bit strongly about crediting, warnings, and the concept of "taking someone out of the story" of a horror series.

alright, so, i'm watching greylock. it's the part with the dogs. however, in this sequence, the main thing i noticed was the photosensitivity warning with the red flickering part. people seem to think it takes you out of the story to warn your viewers about something that'll show up on the screen like SA or flashing lights, but this part did it well enough that i even knew what was going on although i wasn't watching the screen (i had it on for background noise) and i actually really appreciated the warning- it didn't take me out of it, but even if it did, i really liked that it was there.

now, something that does take me out of a series is the credit scenes in the monument mythos but i think this is actually a good thing. like i enjoy knowing who made what i'm watching, and i'm happy alex is putting his name on these things that are important to him- like the house in the ocean, for example, is a thing he made while grieving his dad. i enjoyed being reminded that a person made the things i saw- it really drove home the point that i would be able to do those things too, and it helped me remember that i was going through something similar at the time.

overall, i think warning your audience is necessary and having credits on your stuff is up to you. i just think that if you spent all this time making something incredible, it should be something you're proud of.

i’m someone who places a lot of importance on immersion in my horror, and stuff like content warnings or credits never really takes me out of the experience. i understand that the thing i am watching is a work of fiction. i’m not going to complain that my immersion is shattered because i can scroll down to the comments. bad writing takes me out of a story far more often than any trigger warning.

with that said, it’s better to keep your art and your housekeeping separate whenever possible. if you have warnings, frontload them all at the start of the video. if you put in credits, save them for the end. there was this one video i watched where the creator stopped the story to advertise their patreon, while staying in character, and it was some of the dumbest shit i’d ever seen.

oh yeah, i find this kinda stuff best if it's done well, you know? most often i see people taking the "not warning" road though, where they don't warn their viewers for possibly triggering/dangerous content (such as flashing lights, SA, violence, etc etc) and i find that more angering than doing the warnings badly- and not badly as in not warning for the stuff, badly as in the warning doesn't fit the aesthetic/vibe of the rest of the media itself

old gods and the underworld

i'm watching jacob geller's "fear of depths" video right now, and i've got things to talk about. mainly, the concept of old gods and that which lies beneath.

for caves, i find this portion, in a way, most similar to the "Ted the Caver" story from years upon years ago. this portion of the cave past the hole was untouched by humanity for years and years, until these random kids decided to get in there to see what's past it. and inside it, they find something so old, something so rife with the smell of rotting corpses, something so large and incomprehensible, that it moves a boulder that was huge compared to ted. i think that this is a place where our ways mean nothing- a place that doesn't care if you're alive or not, a place that leads deeper, deeper, deeper, into the earth itself. the drawing on the wall of the cave shows us that there is a place even deeper than ted's current position, a place that gets closer to the underworld, closer to the land of death and loss- and it means a bit more that the entire place smells like dead bodies.

under the water, i don't know many series- but i do know games. one of my favorite games, "Iron Lung" explores the concept of being under the surface with things that are older than you, larger than you, and are definitely not happy to see you in their domain. in the game, we see structures and an unknown glowing light- a light that has the power to teleport us to different parts of the map. we hear (and sometimes see) the blood as it flows past our rinky dink little vessel, we hear things move past us, we use the shoddy camera to see where in this hellish world we are. we see things that are twice our size. we get eaten.

in a less.. red... interpretation of the concept, we have: subnautica. over the waves, you find the ship and a couple islands, sure, but the real important part is under them. under the water, you find voice recordings from your colleagues, your friends, as they die. you hear their last words. you hear how some are relieved, you hear how some are still struggling to accept their fate. if you go deeper, you find skeletons. skeletons of things that can fit your entire body in just their eye sockets. deeper, still, and you find an old god that can only speak to you because your body is being devastated by a disease you caught on this planet. you survive this time.

overall, i find caves and the underwater world a very unexplored frontier in horror. that which is buried, and best stay buried, often ties to the human tendency of hubris and desperation to find, to consume knowledge, to learn, learn, learn, over and over and over until the end of time. it's a never ending cycle where if you left, you'd be going against your biology itself.

guess who just watched "the oldest view" by kanepixels :] even though the series isnt fully done yet.... i have some things to yap about.

first of all, i'm not sure whether or not the giant is a good dude or no. maybe he's supposed to show how the valley view mall and the giant were left behind to rot, and this made him a little out of it over time. like, yeah, being left alone in a mall would make me lose it a little too. however, why is he following wyatt?

i, personally, think he needs something from wyatt. when wyatt asks what he wants, and the lights flicker to show multiple dead people and a dead horse, it seems like he's saying "you're more use to me alive than you are dead." i think thats why he followed wyatt around, since he needs to find out how he got in. on one hand, he might be trying to get this information so that he can escape to make sure nobody ever forgets him, or he might try to seal up the entrance so that wyatt has to stay with him there, forever. in a way, i think he's really lonely- he was, at first, staying still when wyatt was looking at him in the same sense that a cat looks to make sure you're following them. then, he gets more impatient, and that's why he showed the horse to wyatt when he was about to get on the rooftop exit. he was saying "if you die, i'll be just as alone as i was before you showed up, so don't take the risk of getting on those beams." i think that's also why he was cracking the cement- in a misguided way of trying to get wyatt to leave the exit in favor of stable ground. do i know the guy with the beard in the first part? nope. however, i think i MIGHT have an idea.

in one part, wyatt says he got a drone from his botany professor. perhaps this professor led wyatt to this place somehow? also, i'm quite sure wyatt would have to explain the whole "needing a drone" thing to his professor (those things are damn expensive) and the professor may have known someone who investigated, and that's why they didn't seem to go to the authorities instead of trusting some random college student? i dunno! maybe the bearded guy is julien reverchon, even, and his ghost is haunting the giant, and that's why he chases wyatt- it's been so long since he died, and the first person to show up mentions having an interest in botany (which, you know, must have felt like winning the lottery.)

either way, super cool series, i found the giant pretty creepy. i also found all the themes of being left behind super cool, especially since, if i'm correct, we explore the concept of something good becoming something rotten. also the animation's super good, to the point that i had to look back at all the scenes and still caught myself wondering how kanepixels rented out a whole mall. totally dope series!

i think it's time to yap about urbanSPOOK, story writing, and the practice of shock horror. let's talk shop. obviously, if you may be sensitive to topics such as sexual assault (including CSA) (and on animals) (and by animals, on people) and murder/similar themes, then please be warned i will be talking about these subjects in detail, in the context of the story itself.

alright, now that ive got that out of the way, let's talk shop. first, i'll talk about the writing of the story itself, then the use of shock horror. capisce? capisce.

so, the story. what's the plot of the series, and how well is it developed?

well.... not too well. we don't know where it's set, and we don't know how far apart these murders are. weeks? i hope the hell not, since the speed and brutality of the murders (which we will get to don't you worry) is practically impossible. are they out here killing people every single day? how are they not seen by someone? caught by cameras (which, by the way, weren't common for streets until the 90's- after VHS tapes fell out of fashion.) and, most of all, how are multiple (MULTIPLE!!!) cops getting killed by them and not one person knows what to do? why is nobody fighting back? namely, the cops- who are likely to have a firearm on their person. it's just a shoddily put together story that likes to seem super edgy and stuff, but there's no substance to it, like the cloth mother. it's nasty, but there's no real method to the madness so to speak- the killers are just running around hurting/killing randoms.

well, the story kinda sucks. how about the way it's presented, and how the author talks about sensitive things? (also sucks)

okay. i don't wanna beat around the bush here: the author is TERRIBLE at talking about these kinds of topics with any kind of substance to it. it's just nasty and gross for the sake of being nasty and gross, okay? once you figure out the plot beats and the usual style of the paintings, it all loses its luster and just seems to be in the same vein as teenagers on creepypasta forums putting together the most terrifying and scary things they can think of (while having little to no real writing skills) just to ick people out. this is why the creator puts SA of so many kinds in these videos, since it's the worst crime a lot of people can think of, even being worse than death in some eyes. i don't know how to say this without seeming tactless, but here goes: a story without connecting factors isn't a story, it's a heap of information that needs to be put together by the reader. and hey, this is completely okay too! this means the readers can discuss their thoughts. however, if the motives of the murderers are unknown or just amhiguous, it's loads harder to figure out whats even going on. why did this person skin a cat? why was this man stabbed more than four hundred times? (real actual number from the series btw) why were these twins... well you get the point. there's nothing in common between any of them, ever. it's just scary paintings tied together by very thin (and i mean VERY thin) strings that are supposed to mean an "overarching story" or whatever.

i haven't even SPOKEN about how unbelievable this story is, either. penicillin is a substance that needs a prescription for use, but it was found all over this crime scene (same with viagra). the VHS tapes don't look like VHS. there are so many plotholes it feels like i'm looking at someone's pores up close, but whatever. i've said what i needed to say.

if you like urbanSPOOK, i really don't wanna hear it on this post, okay? i don't wanna hear how a story exploiting shock horror is the new shakespeare, okay? watch the tangi virus or something, and learn about immersion in the world of the story.

just watched zeemyth's BEDROCK.ZIP video. thoughts under readmore.

genuinely, i think this is the best video of this format ive ever seen in my life. the editing was so good that it made me worry that it was made as an advertisement. i fully thought it was a documentary about a missing minecraft player, in the same vein as CHUPPL's video about the velma dinkley forums. i played minecraft all the time as a kid (probably 11-12 years of it) and the style of veil's server just..... it was so familiar. it felt like the worlds i'd make when i would get off school. and that was so god damn scary.

the references from house of leaves are a huge part of the video, too. everything in the video is there for a reason. so i'll go over some of the main ideas of this video, because why not.

the generation of the bedrock stronghold is highly reminiscent of the house but it goes even deeper with the motifs of the doors being halved- or opened- in veil's server/the stronghold. this means nobody is SAFE there. nobody can rely on the protection of a door there. plus, the part where zeemyth had to jump off a high place repeatedly was genuinely unnerving. this makes me remember the lengths people will go to find out what they need- the feverish, irrational need to find. most notably.... caves. caves just have this aura about them that make you want to go in a litte deeper, around the corner, and boom. youre lost. also, its underground lol. i think the rooms zeemyth found represent the information you restlessly pursue, but it ends up being the kind that hurts. the end was incredible as well- he found it, but you need to find it yourself. he only gives the person who interviews him one hint-

i REALLY wanna talk about chaimailchasers. most of this info i have was in sagan hawkes' video about it, so if theres something not in there, i won't know about it (i get too scared to watch it on my own lol) anyways thoughts utc you guys know the drill

first of all, i really enjoy chainmailchasers. it's absolutely incredible, and i love it with all my heart. personally, i'm seeing a lot of influence from that "hey peebrain, you teleport?" thing from a while ago. however! there is a lot to talk about. mainly, the dragons/images and how they change.

i think that the images change through literal actual evolutionary processes, kind of. i think they all have a common ancestor, but they don't breed or whatever- instead reproducing asexually. this is why they have SIMILAR characteristics, but not all the same. some of these similar characteristics are the smile (seen in smiledog, kinda in the mario victim image, solar plexus clown glider, trollface, and if you can be silly about it, grace's computer wallpaper) and the hands (seen again in smiledog, the trollface drawing, somewhat in the mario victim image, and in the background of grace's facecam). i think that these characteristics elude to how they are all related, but i'm not sure which is stronger: the common ancestor, or the descendants.

other than what they look like, it seems their power level is directly reliant on what they used to mean back in those days. the trollface was a "runt" because it didnt curse you or bring any ill will, most of the time- which is why, after the heaven stairway incident, people fell back to earth grinning. they were dead, sure, but they would have lived if they didn't hit the ground. the reason trollface was used is because to some (including me!) the face was somewhat uncanny, but nowhere near as terrifying as smiledog. it wasnt terrifying to many, but for those it did scare, were they the ones that didn't fall back down to earth?

lastly, the prickheads. their security protocols are not deeply explored, but it's said they had enough power to keep basilisks under control- even though it put them at risk. this means they had some insanely powerful technology (whether it was laden with crosses or well encrypted, i'm unsure) but it's very likely that arthur, murph's little brother, will be INCREDIBLY important in the future.

i'm not entirely sure where to put this, either, but icecreammonkeyfan's videos are deeply concerning. he is the mad boy that slipped through time, yes, but what is he? what will he become? why did something suddenly go wrong? is this anything to do with der großman?

either way, incredible video by sagan, and super cool series, too. i'm absolutely excited to see where this goes in the future since the videos are genuinely unsettling as hell, and i can't wait to see what happens with the series.

other than what they look like, it seems their power level is directly reliant on what they used to mean back in those days. the trollface was a "runt" because it didnt curse you or bring any ill will, most of the time- which is why, after the heaven stairway incident, people fell back to earth grinning. they were dead, sure, but they would have lived if they didn't hit the ground. the reason trollface was used is because to some (including me!) the face was somewhat uncanny, but nowhere near as terrifying as smiledog. it wasnt terrifying to many, but for those it did scare, were they the ones that didn't fall back down to earth?

lastly, the prickheads. their security protocols are not deeply explored, but it's said they had enough power to keep basilisks under control- even though it put them at risk. this means they had some insanely powerful technology (whether it was laden with crosses or well encrypted, i'm unsure) but it's very likely that arthur, murph's little brother, will be INCREDIBLY important in the future.

i'm not entirely sure where to put this, either, but icecreammonkeyfan's videos are deeply concerning. he is the mad boy that slipped through time, yes, but what is he? what will he become? why did something suddenly go wrong? is this anything to do with der großman?

either way, incredible video by sagan, and super cool series, too. i'm absolutely excited to see where this goes in the future since the videos are genuinely unsettling as hell, and i can't wait to see what happens with the series.

just watched zeemyth's BEDROCK.ZIP video. thoughts under readmore.

genuinely, i think this is the best video of this format ive ever seen in my life. the editing was so good that it made me worry that it was made as an advertisement. i fully thought it was a documentary about a missing minecraft player, in the same vein as CHUPPL's video about the velma dinkley forums. i played minecraft all the time as a kid (probably 11-12 years of it) and the style of veil's server just..... it was so familiar. it felt like the worlds i'd make when i would get off school. and that was so god damn scary.

the references from house of leaves are a huge part of the video, too. everything in the video is there for a reason. so i'll go over some of the main ideas of this video, because why not.

the generation of the bedrock stronghold is highly reminiscent of the house but it goes even deeper with the motifs of the doors being halved- or opened- in veil's server/the stronghold. this means nobody is SAFE there. nobody can rely on the protection of a door there. plus, the part where zeemyth had to jump off a high place repeatedly was genuinely unnerving. this makes me remember the lengths people will go to find out what they need- the feverish, irrational need to find. most notably.... caves. caves just have this aura about them that make you want to go in a litte deeper, around the corner, and boom. youre lost. also, its underground lol. i think the rooms zeemyth found represent the information you restlessly pursue, but it ends up being the kind that hurts. the end was incredible as well- he found it, but you need to find it yourself. he only gives the person who interviews him one hint-

hey gang! haven't posted in a while. so let's talk about the boiled one phenomenon/TOE, that webseries with the character that made me unable to sleep correctly for a few days.

okay, so, i do believe that uh. thing with the hands. his name's locust. i'm not very sure how he ties into the story, but i do know a few things. when he gets a victim, he hollows them out- making it look as though nothing happened- and takes their heart (or, in the title, a "love thumper"). i'm not very sure how TOE (the organate enterprises) fits into it, but based on what i'm seeing, it seems to be the company behind the nature broadcast, the ad for the star candies, and whatever showed up after the ad for the star candies. do i know what this means? of course not

okay here's the part that i'm definitely sure of. there's lots of references to the bible, and locusts. i'm not christian, or even that interested in the bible, so if anyone wants to correct me here, do it. however, the locusts in the bible eat everything they come across. also, locust is mentioned in revelations (which i will talk about in a minute)

the boiled one's introduction has heavy, HEAVY references to the bible. mostly, i saw the sky opening up and the trumpets in the ears of the victims as VERY biblical sounding. however, when zamperini's (his name is likely a reference to watanabe matsuhiro, who was in the japanese military and a known war criminal) laying in the bed while being interviewed, we see the sign about jesus turn into "i can see you" above him. we can also see the uh. hair? spikes? whatever? of the boiled one in the window. personally, i see it as very similar to how god watches over people- all-seeing, all-knowing, etc etc. plus, most of the events in the fetal fanfare part (sky opening, trumpets) tie directly to revelations. plus, the "tree of heaven" part ties to it as well... but i don't know about a tree of heaven. maybe it may tie to the garden of eden? but i'm unsure. anyways, time to focus on zamperini, the war vet.

job zamperini, while being a reference to the events of prisoners of war in japan, also references job's suffering in the bible. again, not a christian, but job's story involves god taking everything from him. plus, the ephrata branch (according to comments under emortalmarcus's video) is named after a town in pennsylvania. ephrata, while being a town in PA (which may tie to why it wasn't placed in zamperini's original hometown) sounds similar to efrata/efrat, which is an israeli settlement, believed to be the original location of bethlehem- more ties to religion and christ.

overall, i personally believe it's leading to a focus on zamperini and watanabe. zamperini turned to christ to deal with the pain and suffering he endured while a prisoner of war, and watanabe died in 2003. i do believe the boiled one is watanabe's ghost coming back and using biblical imagery, themes, and events to torment him further. however, i'm not very sure how my boy locust ties into this (and i haven't even SPOKEN about that creature that follows you after the lights turn off) or how TOE ties into that and all. overall, i need me some more lore to figure out if doctor nowhere is focusing completely on zamparini's story, or if he's using it as a symbol of war (like one of the comments on the original series said)

time for me to talk about analog horror, inspiration, and time

okay so, i see a lot of people shitting on analog horror at this time, especially including like.. series inspired by tmc (such as basswood county, etc etc) but also including other "big ones" in the genre, such as petscop, ghe, or local58. and like, i get it- youre trying to see new stuff. that's understandable. however...

is the "need" for new content enough to excuse being an ass to new creators? is it really? because hoenstly, i'm just happy to see people finding happiness in this genre and learning about how they want to make their own art. basswood county, especially- it's similar to tmc on the surface. it surrounds the creepy-crawly happenings in/around a county, uncanny humanoids, and more. however, the creator of basswood county (who i believe is called DarkMind on youtube, correct me if i'm wrong) incorporates his own drawings into the series, which, honestly, is super cool! i'm absolutely ecstatic that someone is finding a medium to make their art that makes them happy.

however, this also relates to like... creepypasta stories (especially the regular game creepypasta stories, like ben drowned, sonic.exe, and even petscop) and how people think theyre cringy. because like.. chances are, there was a creepypasta author out there seeing these people shit on their writing and going "oh... i worked hard on that" and hiding away their writings because of it. and this shouldnt happen! people should be proud of their writing even if it was ass! creepypastas quite literally influenced a good part of the internet, and chances are, the internet wouldnt be the same today without them.

overall, i do think that like... we should really stop being asses about an analog horror series being based on something before it, then that being based on something before it, then on and on. i, personally, really love seeing the influences in an analog horror series that i'm watching! i love going "oh!! thats where you got that from!!" and its awesome because i remember this happens all the time, in art, in movies, in shows, etc etc. so yeah ❤️

time to talk about sagan hawkes's "there will never be another petscop" video lol

overall i find most of his points really good about like... the idea of art, how it is made, and such. however... i would just like to expand on some of it.

the idea that art made for the purpose of money isn't art is just.. weird to me. kinda. because often artists will make art for the purpose of money- and though i don't recommend doing that in the current grind culture that can make creativity fizzle out, it's a perfectly respectable career and the art they make is still art. i do get that he was more talking about mr brainwash getting his workshop of elves to do it, but does that mean the people who made the art didn't put in time for it, and get paid like other artists? did they have any influence on it, however small, making it into art of their own? in a way, i see this as like.. companies/corporations being recognized for the work their lower level employees did. like yeah, walmart, i'm sure there would have been a lot less profits if your minimum wage workers didn't organize the shelves every day. and, even more- do the paintings for sale in furniture stores deserve recognition like this? probably a conversation for another day.

i do believe that those who made art for mr brainwash's gallery do deserve recognition... this overall does not change the general idea of the video, being "art doesnt need to be original, you just have to make whatever feels right" and all that. i find this video to be one of the more thought-provoking ones of his, because i found myself looking upon my art and going "hmm............." because i'd find myself worrying about if it was too similar to something made by someone else. overall, yeah
