A general timeline of major events in Rodolphus’s life. As this is mostly headcanon based, this may be a useful read to anyone who wants to write with him. These are brief and not graphic, but small TW for references to violence and parricide. Transferred from his time on my multi, and edited for my current understanding of his storyline
15 MARCH 1953 - Born in Hertfordshire, England to pureblood parents. He was healthy, amicable and perfect at birth, and so would remain through most of his childhood.
1 MAY 1954 - A second Child, Rabastan Lestrange was born. From the moment Rodolphus met the baby boy, they were inseparable.
1 SEPTEMBER 1964 - The boy is sorted into Slytherin at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His entire family before him had been as well. He’ll take up great talent at chars, transfiguration, arithmancy and ancient runes.
JUNE 1966 - Rodolphus’s mother is killed. His baby brother, unable to bear touch from most, struck out in a magical accident and her neck snapped. Rodolphus couldn’t make himself mourn for her, more worried about what their father might do to Rabastan.
JUNE 1971 - He leaves Hogwarts a distinguished and promising young man, soon to live in a property his family’s owned for generations while his father maintains the family estate. He had ambitions as an architect and a painter, and for two years would work as one.
SEPTEMBER 1971 - Talks begin of a possible engagement between himself and other wealthy wizarding families
FEBRUARY 1972 - After letters to his brother go unanswered, a panicked Rodolphus returned home. When he realized Rafael Lestrange had resumed and worsened his abuse of Rabastan, the elder son was enraged. Not wanting his wand to be traced, he physically fought his father in the living room, finally killing him with a poker from the fireplace. After that he cared for his ailing brother. He burned the body along with a shed, kicking over a lantern, so the world would think Rafael was in a shed that caught fire by mistake.
NOVEMBER 1973 - Lord of the manner now, he marries Bellatrix Black. Both are wealthy and eldests, but each have reason not to be the typical marrying kind. He is just fine with that.
JANUARY 1974 - After flirting the idea and being introduced, Rodolphus formally becomes a death eater. He’d already known he could kill, so it didn’t take much debate on his part.
JUNE 1979 - Nearly caught in an act by auror Alice Longbottom, an uneasy, sometime-friend of his brother’s. This grudge will be remembered.
31 OCTOBER 1981 - The Dark Lord falls and he is left adrift. He’d believed this man to be something more powerful than mankind, and if he might have been a fraud, he’s horrified. He must believe, and he is frantic.
DECEMBER 1981 - In a bid to find the Dark Lord, he and his closest attack a pair of aurors, Frank and Alice Longbottom. Their interrogation proves fruitless, but both are driven out of their minds.
DECEMBER 1981 - He and his dearests are tried and convicted. Rabastan, Bellatrix, Barty and Rodolphus are sent to Azkaban prison.
JANUARY 1982 - He thinks he hears Barty die. All the crying and bedding turns to whimpering and moaning, and that finally stops, too. He feels his heart break in half listening.
JULY 1993 - Sirius Black escapes. If Rodolphus were less empty, that may have been an exciting precedent.
FEBRUARY 1996 - The Dark Lord is back and his followers revolt from their imprisonment. Rodolphus follows his brother and wife to freedom.
APRIL 1996 - Rodolphus battles half of the order and Harry Potter’s DA. He loses this battle, but they’re still alive and still fighting.
MAY 1997 - He’s snuck through the portal to Hogwarts, and is present at the battle in which Albus Dumbledore is killed.
31 JULY 1997 - An attempt to kill Harry Potter on his seventeenth birthday fails, due to Order intervention.
MAY 1998 - At the Battle of Hogwarts. Rodolphus’ wife is killed, and he is re-arrested, a broken man quite thoroughly.
JANUARY 2000 - Rodolphus’ second breakout of Azkaban occurs, and he leaves to live out the rest of his life with Rabastan.
