should be asleep but instead I am thinking about how some Sherlock fans were so0o0o0o pissed we never learned for sure how Sherlock survived the fall, and a lot of haters also point to it as being “bad writing,” but like... it’s not a detective show but rather a story about a detective. it was never about the literal fall and how it was done but rather the fact that Sherlock fell for John in every way imaginable... and as John says “I don’t care how you faked it, Sherlock, I want to know why,” because that’s what it’s about and THAT’S what matters. not the cleverness, but the heart. “I will burn the heart out of you.” “but look how you care about John Watson, your damsel in distress.” “it’s not the fall that kills you, Sherlock; it’s the landing.” yeah. anyway: we didn’t learn how Sherlock survived the fall for sure because we didn’t need to know. or more accurately: they had Anderson and his club act as a stand-in for the fandom in the entire episode on purpose, and the reason we ~don’t know for sure~ if we know the true explanation is because Anderson voices that suspicion. they could have not put that in there and had Anderson and thus us take Sherlock’s story as unequivocal fact. but they put that in there to say, you see? what you needed to know is not the how, but the why, and we’ve shown it to you. are you paying attention? it’s not about the stories, or the adventures. it’s about two men in Baker Street and how love is a much more vicious motivator. it’s about fire (or a bomb in a train car) exposing your priorities.
