Time for a bad financial decision
Teach boys about periods
My mother also talked about periods to my brothers.
When I first got mine I had terrible cramps. Crippling cramps. I once was camping with my family and a few of my big brotherâs friends when my period came. My cramps were so bad that my mom gave me a full pain killer ( I was 13 and before that she only gave me pills cut in half).
I literally laid down on my parentsâ air mattress and cried in pain for an hour before the pill kicked in.
My brothers friend came in to the big tent and I was just curled up and sobbing. Now, I was quite the tomboy and was known to rough house with my brothers and their friends and made sure I wasnt seen as just âa little girl.â So my brotherâs friend was confused to see me openly weeping in the fetal position (seriously, these were the worst cramps I have had in my life. My vision went white). He asked what was wrong with me.
My big brother stood up immediately and suggested a nice long hike. During this hike I am sure he had a pretty awkward conversation with his friend explaining menstrual cramps, because when they got back the pain pill had (mostly) kicked in and I was sitting up at a table when my brotherâs friend sheepishly asked me if I was feeling better. I said I was better, and he said good.
When we made s'mores that night my brother and his friend kept me well supplied with chocolate.
Making sure sons know as much about periods and menstruation as daughters makes them better brothers, better sons better fathers, and better men. A man that understands a period will not lightly accuse a woman of âbeing on her periodâ if the woman is in an argument.
Raise better sons Teach them about normal bodily functions.
HIT REBLOG PLEASE
this reminds me of that post about that dude who carries tampons with him at the gym because âhalf the world menstruatesâ and âyou will build a whole guest room in case your friends want to stay the night but you wonât carry tampons in case they start their periods unexpectedlyâ or something and honestly they both give me life. <3
so the academy is reviewing whether or not to remove Will Smithâs award and here are some interesting tweets about that :)
New project because I donât have time to dedicate to painting rn so Iâll work on stuff Iâve already painted.
I present transformable RG unicorn head painted and with LEDs.
Finished with that comfy project, full armour Gundam: Thunderbolt
Got the wires managed, all wires internal fully possible and lit up.
Just going along, comfort project and just fitting in LEDs and topcoating.
So my airbrush pump is broken, I have uni, so guess Iâm just topcoating and adding LEDâs
I canât imagine the balls it takes to be a Russian anti-war protester right now. Good for them.
#i hope theyâre being safe and carefulÂ
Right now, holding up a sign in St. Petersburg condemning this war is the textbook definition of âneither safe nor careful.â
But theyâre proving to anybody in Russia who thought they were the only ones who opposed this war, that theyâre not, and reminding the rest of the world that a government is not the people it claims to represent, and I am deeply moved by their courage.
At least one platoon of Russian military forces surrendered completely to Ukraine as soon as they found out their supposed âreconnaissanceâ mission was actually a combat operation.
Anti-war protesters in Russia are the ones helping these actual soldiers realize their orders are wrong and put down their weapons. Inspiring this recognition of the monstrousness of their actions.
Protestors arenât just doing the right thing, theyâre making a huge difference in the viability of this war.
Theyâre crumbling Russian military morale. Their actions are directly intervening, in a way that we as westerners can only be grateful for.
And they are taking huge personal risks in doing so.
Next project was already on the way, but here are a few completed parts.
Goals with this project:
- original articulation kept
-original gimmicks kept
-removable light up naginata and beam sabers (no beam tonfas)
- fully painted inner frame, pilot and cockpit
- light up beam rifle and shield beam axe
- no exposed wiring
- shield to have seperate power source
This means a lot of electronics, a lot of paint and a lot of painâŠ
Hello world,
Here to share my first gunpla LED project, the RG wing.
Apologies for the bad lighting.
Whatâs so bad about periods
At first I was like âno donât reblog itâll weird people outâ then I was like âoh right thatâs the pointâ
You also lose iron during menstruation. I actually passed out because of that yesterday.
Also shout out to all trans, gender-fluid or genderless people with menstruation out there! Periods donât make you female. Only you define your gender!
Actually there is a good chance that is not the lack of iron making you pass out but instead drops on blood pressure!
I found this out recently. Iâve always been told my fainting/dizzy spells during my period were iron related but I did some research and because I have a history of low blood pressure and fainting related to it (in times of a restricted diet and pregnancy) itâs far more likely thatâs the reason Iâm fainting
A lot of other AFAB people report the same
I ended up in the hospital due to severe blood loss and needed transfusions to recover
Not to mention the dip in your immune system when you lose that much blood, just because of all the white blood cells pouring out along with the rest of it.Â
Or the fact that a lot of the painful/severe symptoms associated with periods are actually due to medical problems that need to be addressed, but people donât know this because no one wants to talk about it and associate most of the symptoms with a fictional version of PMS
That last point is really worth emphasising.
Look, periods suck, but theyâre not supposed to suck so much that youâre genuinely incapacitated for days at a time. If youâre literally in agony every month, then thatâs a sign there might be something else going on.
Pls reblog this could save a lifeÂ
*bows in tiny velociraptor*
thank
Not to mention that PMS can legitimately make people feel self-destructive and/or briefly suicidal even if they werenât before and wonât be afterwards. Itâs a terrible feeling, and no one deserves to go through it.
Me fucking waking up this morning feeling like thereâs a knife stabbing me from the inside out and knowing, ohâŠso today is the day this shit goes down.
This is important
It sucks, but if it sucks to the level of âI loathe myself beyond bearing one day a monthâ or âIâm crying from pain,â talk to your doctor. If your doctor doesnât listen? Get a new doctor.
Love,
Someone who felt both of these things and is now medicated and post-surgery and doesnât feel them nearly so much anymore
Not biologically a gal, nor identify as one, but I think this is good for everyone to know.
the person reblogging this from you is rooting for you to have a happy, healthy, and successfull 2022
everyone shut the fuck up this is now a greater sugar glider post
inspired by @prokopetzâs post here
There is a method of growing rhubarb known as âforcingâ where the plant grows in complete darkness and is tended to in candlelight. It grows so quickly during this process that you can hear it grow. [1, 2]
Thanks! I hate it.
What kind of horror movie shit is this?
P l a n t
I didnât think it was possible to make a torture chamber for plants and yet
Anyways, hereâs a soundcloud link of forced rhubarb:
https://soundcloud.com/rhubarb-rhubarb-rhubarb/a-mass-of-popping-rhubarb
Who tf figured that out though?!?
The British.
They ran out of ways to torture people so they invented ways to torture plants.
Iâm trying to look up the history, since bean said it was the British, and heâs right since it was first done in 1817 in the Chelsea Physic Garden, originally named the Apothecaries Garden in 1673 by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries for plants for medicinal uses, which rhubarb was used for as well.
As for the why⊠I think it was just one of those old things of âwhy not?â.
I found a website that describes it, and it is interesting.
Especially this part:
Specifically, itâs noted that rhubarb thrives in cold, wet weather which, jokey stereotypes aside, is pretty much what the weather is like in Britain for several months of the year. In addition, itâs noted that rhubarb grows especially well in nitrogen rich soil which is also quite handily found in abundance in Britain.
This all brings us to the whole candlelit harvesting thing. At some point, farmers realised that rhubarbâs trademark tartness could be eliminated if the plant was grown in the dark at a certain stage, and that the act of doing this actually made the stalks of the plant taste sweet, negating the need for sugar to be added to dishes containing it.
With this information in hand, farmers quickly developed and subsequently refined the process of growing rhubarb in the dark. For example, it was eventually realised that rhubarb could be âforcedâ to grow by subjecting an immature plant to frost, which nobody had ever really tried before since frost is normally a death sentence for many plants. However, with rhubarb, this merely, as one rhubarb expert notes, âmakes the rhubarb crown break its winter dormancy and stimulate the conversion of starch stored in the rhubarb crown to glucoseâ.
Normally this glucose is used by the entire plant during growth. However, by putting the rhubarb in total darkness at a certain stage, the leaves of plant will be anaemic and wilted, resulting in all of that delicious glucose being left in the plantâs stalk, hence why rhubarb grown in this manner is so much sweeter than rhubarb grown via more traditional means.
Naturally, once this was discovered, farmers began growing rhubarb in specially constructed âforcing shedsâ which were kept in total darkness and kept warm by whatever means they had available. Prior to this, the rhubarb was and still is simply left in a field for around two years to allow the roots to grow while periodically being covered in nitrogen rich fertiliser. Â In the 18th century, the fertiliser used was mostly manure and something known as shoddy (essentially discarded woolen fibres) sourced from wool manufacturers. Today, however, farmers mostly use manure which in addition to being cheap and plentiful, stops thieves stealing the rhubarb.
oh fuck that soundcloud link. imagine hearing this in the dead of night
