So since I have a lot of free time at work and I’m tired of searching for a thousand posts to quote during discourse I put together three documents about bisexuality and bisexual discourse.

Defining bisexuality (a collection of definition of bisexuality by various bisexual activists and associations)

The Cultural Impact of Pansexuality (a collection of statements about pansexuality made by pansexuals or mainstream media outlets/celebrities like Marie Claire, Teen Vogue, the Rolling Stone and Miley Cyrus, among others)

Statistics, studies and articles about bisexual-specific issues (a collection of studies about the issues that bisexuals face)

Debunking pro-pan arguments (a short essay I wrote doing exactly what the title says)

Like I said above, 99% of the material in these documents was taken from various tumblr posts, mostly by users verilybitchie, cowardly-bisexual, violettomcat and others that I honestly cannot remember (sorry!)

A special shoutout (lol it feels so corny to say that) goes to @bisexualiteaparty, who unknowningly gave me the idea for this, and her BisexualiTea (check it out, it has all I have put in the first two documents + a part about Butch and Femme identities)

IMPORTANT NOTE: these documents are an ongoing project, meaning that they will be constantly updated with relevant material. If you have some more material that I can add feel free to send it to me and I’ll add it!

Note: it was not proof read so there may be some mistakes. Feel free to point those out, to give me tips and to tell me if I missed some popular arguments that people make in defense of pansexuality. Its also in the carrd!

respect your local bisexuals in m/f relationships

speak out against blatant biphobia from all communities

don’t speak over bisexuals on our identity and history if you are not bisexual and not educated on our history

listen to bisexuals when we talk about things that negatively affect us, especially from our fellow lgt folk

stop bi erasure! stop misinformation on bisexuals, our history, and our definition of the label! educate yourself!

"straight passing privilege" is truly one of the worse concept people ever came up with.

Some of y'all are so obsessed with the hyper specific scenario of a bi person in a m/f relationship not getting harassed by strangers on the street even tho we said multiple times that yes, we do have to go through that.

A bisexual can truly pass as straight

IF they're in a m/f relationship

IF they're gender conforming

IF they're both cis

IF they never talk about their sexuality

IF they live in a place where most people don't know about their sexuality (think about how fast rumors and info spread in small towns where everyone knows each other)

IF they managed to hide their previous m/m or f/f relationships well enough

IF they don't own and show any LGBT pride merch

IF people they came out to don't out them to other people

IF there aren't any rumors about their sexuality (cause in some places even a rumor can ruin your life)

IF they're completely detached from LGBT spaces (cause god forbids someone sees you there and tell people!)

IF they don't show support for the fight for LGBT rights (cause sometimes even showing support is seen as suspicious. I had to hear plenty of times "why do you care so much about gay rights? You're not one of them, are you?")

Does this sound like a privilege? Does walking on eggshells and never expressing your orientation sound like a privilege? Cause where I live, thats called the closet and its far from a privilege.

There's also the fact that harassment on the street is just one of the thousands of situations where bisexuals (and LGBT people in general) get harassed.

A bisexual can get harassed at school, at university, at work, at the gym, in clubs, at their sports / hobby clubs, at shelters, at the doctor, in LGBT spaces, in their own house, by their own "friends" and partners and acquaintances and yet I have seen absolutely none of those scenarios being discussed. Its always "bisexuals in m/f relationships not getting harassed on streets".

What I don't and will never understand is how bisexuals have many, many sources as to why pansexuality is harmful, but the only argument pansexuals have is "just let people live! do what makes you comfortable!". Come on man, you're ignoring us when we speak about our issues on purpose. It's really hard to think of you as a bisexual ally when you don't ever fuckin listen to us.

pretty much all hatred towards bisexual women on this site can be boiled down to one of two takes

1. i don't think bisexual women are as smart as me or know anything about lgbt history

2. i don't think bisexual women are capable of loving as strongly as i am, especially in wlw relationships

so many of you, openly or not, believe that bisexuals are exempt from almost all of the consequences of societal homophobia... saw a post where OP was talking about "gay/lesbian specific issues" and included in these issues that bisexuals apparently do not face were corrective r/pe, being forced into heterosexual relationships they do not want to hide same-gender attraction, being unable to relate to heterosexual portrayals of relationship dynamics, and---this one literally made me laugh out loud---being coerced into being more "open" with your sexuality than you want to be.

i do not know how to say this nicely, so i won't: if you are not bisexual, you need to actually analyze how you see us and why you think that we are not impacted by these things. you need to meet, no, you need to KNOW more bisexuals than the one inside your head you have created to envy and vilify, and you need to expand your understanding of the bisexual experience past your assumption that our "heterosexual" attraction somehow saves us from the worst of it all.

the idea that homophobes would love you more if you were one of us is a lie they tell you because they believe that bisexuals are easier to force into heterosexuality. and i know that because if they think you are bisexual they won't leave you alone like you seem to think they do, they will hold you down and scream and hit and violate to make you straight. not bisexual. straight. you cannot understand that bisexuality is not enough for them, and so it's not enough for you either, and we are left alone. with them, who kill us and r/pe us and beat us. or with you, who look away and deny it happened.

i'm sorry, i'm just so tired of all of this. sometimes it feels like we have nothing at all but each other.
