REBLOG IF YOU LOVE DOGS
9 million people fucking love dogs
Zoom staff meeting
Traditional forestry is so fascinating actually. Humans used to be much more invested in sustainable practices*, and they got creative about it.
Take coppicing. Coppicing is wild, yaâll. Young trees get repeatedly cut down so that they regenerate with extra limbs. You know, like a freaking hydra.
This doesnât harm the trees. In fact, since a regularly coppiced tree stays in the juvenile stage, this effectively makes the tree IMMORTAL, unable to be touched by age and the ravages of time. Also coppicing has been practiced since literal prehistory and has a lot of ecological benefits. In return, humans get a theoretically infinite supply of wood from one tree, instead of having to plant new ones.
tldr if you cut off a treeâs head it will grow more heads like a hydra and become functionally immortal.
*before colonizers realized they could steal all the land & trees they desired

That is the exact spot my parents found a stray kitten. Nice little addition to the family, but would have been a terrible addition to the pavement had she not been very vocal OTL
No joke, the place where that cat is resting in this picture is called a âdead cat holeâ itâs an automotive term. Â Donât believe me, look it up.
This is also where I found a stray cat, she was up in there during a thunderstorm and I begged my dad to let me being her inside and thatâs the story of how I got my first cat.
Please donât skip over this without reading it and making a mental note. Even if you donât have a car, tell your parents or whoever, and make sure to do this. You think thatâll never happen but thatâs what everyone thought who had this happen and didnât check, and that poor cold cat met with a terribly sad end.
REBLOG WHETHER YOU LIKE CATS OR NOT
My little sister accidentally killed our family cat this way. It was horrible. Save yourself and a cat some pain by just being a little more attentive.

today I learned that some female red squirrels will bequeath all or part of their own territories to their offspring and/or conquer new territories in anticipation of a new litter... squirrel hereditary real estate...
squirrel feudalism
most squirrels do not find their offspring to be worthy heirs and simply expel them to make their own fortunes but others are like âone day everything the light touches will be thine own middenâ
Cat Behavior
a lot of people tend to confuse cats showing their belly for belly rubs, but itâs actually only something dogs do, for cats its a sign of respect and trust, they are not expecting to get pet, so when they do itâs not uncommon they get startled or think its play fight, of course there are expectations and some cats who ADORES belly rubs

For anyone wondering, this is amazing enrichment for the animal and a great way to involve guests! The lions arenât forced to play with the rope if they donât want to, and these guys (and anyone else who tries this out) have an awesome close up and hands on experience, all without having to come in direct contact with the cat!
@why-animals-do-the-thing
This definitely counts as #actually cute. This video is from the San Antonio Zoo, and the lionessâ name is Axelle. As @ordinaryredtail said above, the tug of war interaction is entirely voluntary on her part.
My guess is that the zoo staff did use some positive reinforcement training to teach her how to pick up and pull on the rope at first, because thatâs not necessary something a lion would just do on their own. While itâs also probable that sheâs rewarded with something tasty did choosing to engage with the members of the public like this, Axelle wouldnât be engaging if it was a negative experience for her (there arenât enough snacks in the world to coerce a lion into doing something they find actively distressing). If she didnât want to participate, she could just walk away.
Some sanctuary and animal rights groups have taken issue with this interaction because they consider it unethical to ask a lion to engage in any âunnatural behaviorâ âfor the benefit of the public,â calling it exploitation. It is worth keeping in mind, however, that learning and engaging in novel behaviors is hugely enriching for animals in human care, and that lions have no concept of exploitation. As long as the lion is not bothered by the presence or noise of the crowd, is not injured or harmed, and is engaging on an entirely voluntary basis, this sort of thing is entirely ethical. It is far safer than any type of interaction where a member of the public is coming into direct context with a big cat, but still allows people to directly experience the sheer strength of a lion up close.

Itâs funny that we use skeletons as symbols of core human anatomy when our bones are just the scaffolding for something else.

jellyfish are damned humans, cursed to float aimlessly in the abyss without their ship
