“What, and I can’t love Riley without being in love with her? It’s me and her together, even if she did meet some nice vampire or I found some other werewolf I could kind of tolerate.” 

“I might be too much excitement for you, but it sounds like you’ve got lost time to make up for. I take it you’re the only ghost hanging around the building, then? No floating friends hanging around?”

“Exactly. You can passionately love someone without it being like that. Haven’t you ever had a very best friend?”

“There’s no such thing as too much excitement where we’re concerned, Maya. Can you leave this apartment, Farkle or are there just no other ghosts nearby?”

“My mistake, ladies! You can’t blame me for assuming that two lovely ladies such as yourself moving in together…well, it’s good to know. If a werewolf and a vampire can be best friends, it means there’s more good in this world than I thought.” 

“Thanks for being my Maya-translator for now, Riley! I hope you’re right. It would suck to be at odds with my new roommates.”

“How is it that you don’t even blink an eye at a werewolf and a vampire being a couple, but best friends is suddenly too much for you to wrap your genius brain around? Are you sure that some of your IQ didn’t go down when you died?”

“Riles is the only person that really understands me, Ghost Boy, so I wouldn’t get your hopes up too much. But I guess we’re stuck with you until we figure out what happened to you, so we may as well make the most of it.”

As the Maya-translator for right now, that means “You’re never going to get to my status as her best friend forever. But we’re going to have so much fun while we’re figuring out what happened to you!”

“I really didn’t know! I just said what I was thinking about! Why wouldn’t he tell the truth if he was? He’s stuck here so it’s not like we could do anything about it.”

“Please don’t cross her Farkle. She hits hard and I don’t want to know if a ghost can be murdered. ”

“Telepathy. Nice. You two are a really cute couple.”

“Trust me, I won’t. I already died once, I wouldn’t want to do it again. It’s very stressful and very expensive. For everyone else, I mean. I barely noticed. Any tips on how not to cross you, Maya?”

“Couple?”

“Well, I don’t have to worry about you stealing my tuna melt or touching any of my other stuff, I guess, so you’re off to an okay start.”

"We're cute best friends, silly. Not a couple. Maya and I aren't like that."

"In Maya-speak an okay start is a really good start, Farkle! We're all going to be such great friends now!"

“How would I be able to tell him what you’re thinking? Wait..are you thinking about ghost ducklings too?”

“So you can touch us but we wouldn’t be able to hit you back?”

[farklephantom]

“Not a mindreader, just a good judge of character. I lived with someone who was good at everything except reading people so it had to become my strength. Um….you’re thinking that you wish the gray walls were the worst part of this place? Or are you thinking about ghost ducklings, maybe?”

“It’s not much of a loophole. You’d have to focus on feeling me as much as I would have to focus on hitting you, otherwise it wouldn’t work. As for hitting me back, I imagine it’d work the same way, with both of us focusing on it. I wouldn’t know for sure, since no one’s tried to hit me since I died.”

“Riley, I said don’t tell him, not give away my deep, dark, ghost duckling thoughts! But it’s fine, if he’s really as smart as he says he is he wouldn’t tell the truth about being a mindreader even if he was one.”

“I’ll be sure to test that sometime if you cross me, then, Ghost Boy.”

“You’re welcome and thanks, I try.”

“Wait..Can you even lay one hand on either of us enough to even battle? I thought ghosts were pretty untouchable. So wouldn’t a fight between the three of us just be us attempting to fight air?…No offense, Farkle.”

“You caught me, Maya. I’m an evil spirit and my name is proof - you calling me out on it is my weakness, I should be dissolving down to hell any minute. You seem like someone who actions speak louder to than words, so keep your eye on me. You’ll see I have nothing to hide. ”

“No offense taken, Riley. I would’ve asked the same thing. To answer your question, I’d have to focus all my mind and energy into the parts of me I wanted you to feel for it to be like anything other than fighting air, like you said.”

“So far all you’re doing is making me think you’re a mindreader and a ghost… Quick, see if you can tell me what I’m thinking, and Riles, don’t spoil the answer for him, okay?”

“Wait, you mean there actually is some ghost loophole that lets you touch us? Ew.”

"How would I be able to tell him what you're thinking? Wait..are you thinking about ghost ducklings too?"

"So you can touch us but we wouldn't be able to hit you back?"

“Thanks, Riley. I grew to like it too…eventually.”

“If I were an evil spirit, I’d have a way more menacing name than Farkle, don’t you think? Besides, a ghost versus a vampire and a werewolf? Seems like a failed battle from the start. The real question is why you think you’d have such dangerous enemies, Maya. Well, you I can kinda see having enemies. Someone would have to hate happiness altogether to want to off you, Riley. If I can say so, you’re really youthful for being seventy years old!”

“Or maybe we just hit on the real reason you never changed your name, Ghost Boy. But you’re right, I could easily take you all on my own – throw in my girl here and you definitely wouldn’t have a prayer. Riley may trust you, but I’m keeping my eye on you, Farkle Minkus. Try to lay one hand on her and you’ll have one very pissed off werewolf to deal with.”

“My dad wanted me to stand out. I would’ve anyway but they had no way of knowing how smart I’d be at birth. At least in this case my name’s finally a good thing. I’m the only Farkle Minkus in my family and maybe the only one in the world. I’ll let Google figure that one out.”

“A werewolf and a vampire. Wow, life’s gotten so much crazier now that it’s over. Why work on being human at all? Human is so boring compared to you two.”

“Whatever you need to tell yourself, Ghost Boy. You’d think if your IQ were so high you’d have remembered to get your name legally changed to something normal when you were old enough, though.”

“Why should we tell you our whole life story in the first five minutes? For all we know you could be an evil spirit sent her to stake Riles, or put a silver bullet through my heart.”

"It's...unique, Maya. I like it!"

"...I'm Riley Matthews, I've been a vampire since the 1940s and I'm a nice person, so being a monster like most vampires are supposed to be really isn't my thing. Please don't kill me or my best friend."

“I’ve heard Isador- I mean, I heard talk about how I passed once or twice, but I don’t remember it happening at all. If you two actually looked it up, that would be rad, good thinking, Maya - you weren’t kidding about both being smart, which coming from a certified genius means a lot. You can blame my dad for that name the first name Farkle - I know I blamed him plenty for it in the past. Farkle Minkus is the full name, for when you look it up.”

“So what are you two? A couple of vampires looking to settle down?”

“I’d ask what you were really going to say there if I cared, but I don’t, so yeah, we’ll do some digging and try and figure out what happened to you, Ghost Boy. At least it should be easy to find, I highly doubt there are any other Farkle Minkus’s in the world. Did your dad want you to get picked on?”

“Me? A vampire? No, that’s Riley’s deal, not mine.”

"Yeah, googling the death of a certified genius named Farkle Minkus should be pretty easy. Unless you come from a long line of Farkles or something... you don't, right?"

"Not at all, Maya's deal is being the werewolf. We just needed an appartment to crash in while we try to work on being human."

“For all I know, you might actually be right, Maya. I wish I had more answers for you both on the subject. In life, I was kind of known for having all the answers, but now? I don’t remember how I died and I have no idea why I’m still here, much less how you could help me move on. I’m sorry, Riley. But I know that floating in on either of you sleeping or peeing definitely doesn’t interest me, so that’s good, right? You won’t even know I’m here.”

“Seeing as I am your unofficial roommate…I am Farkle.”

“You don’t even know how you died? Isn’t that kind of a major life moment? Or I guess death moment, whatever. Look, if you tell us your full name, we’ll Google the obituary, figure out how you croaked, and then maybe we can play detective on why you’re stuck here. You get to head up to the pearly gates, we get a ghost-free apartment, it’s win-win.”

“Farkle? You’re joking, right? Who names their kid Farkle?”

"Yeah, that's a great idea! We're both pretty smart too amd can get you out of here in a jiffy. So is Farkle your last name or something? That's not that bad."

“I don’t know what you two are, but given that you can see me, you aren’t exactly the normal tenets either. Just like me! The difference between you, Riley and Maya, and me, is that you can both walk out of this house whenever you want. I’ve been trying to leave for the last ten years but I’m bound to the property in ways much stronger than any lease, cookie.”

“You can just call me Ghost Boy for however much longer you’re in here. Believe it or not, it’s better than the real name.”

“Stuck here? Wow, some higher power must really hate you, if they couldn’t even find you someplace better to spend all of eternity. So you seriously can’t leave? Because we’re stuck here for at least a year, and you better make yourself scarce while we’re around. I’m not exactly interested in having you float in on me while I’m sleeping or peeing.”

“No, no, no, no, no! You can’t just leave us hanging like that, spill it, Ghost Boy. What terrible things did they call you while you were still solid?”

"Maya, be nice. Maybe he's stuck here because he has unfinished business to sort out, not because he made God mad. ...Do you have any unfinished business left behind that Maya and I could help you with, Mr. Ghost?"

"I'm sure that's not true either, what is your real name? You know ours now, so it's only fair.

“My name is not Mystery Ghost Person, and this isn’t a housewarming party. The house doesn’t need warming, it’s mine! It’s been mine for….I don’t even remember how long. The real question is who you two are and why you’re waltzing into my house like you own it. I don’t mind company, especially when it’s two beautiful ladies like yourselves, but boundaries are boundaries.”

“A ghost? Riles, you had one job, and you picked us an apartment with a ghost? I love you, but you a lotta work sometimes. Look, ghost boy, I hate to break it to you, but humans don’t exactly let dead guys sign leases. This place is ours now, and I’m so not here for having a haunted house.”

"There wasn't a ghost here when I picked it out. He's new, Maya. I swear! But um, hi not mystery ghost person, I'm Riley and this is Maya. she's right. This place is ours now, they only let dead girls sign leases. Who are you?"
