"So boring." Sciel tapped her chin with her finger in thought. It doesn't take long before hazel eyes light up with an evil idea. A joke, really, but still quite evil. "What if... I got Monoco to dare you?"

"Remind me next time we're near Esquie's cave. You have to set them aside to dry, and unless a Mime has moved into my storage area, I should have something just about ready."

"Worried that one of those creepy mimes stole your stash? Maybe we could convince them to share. How about it, Verso? Are you adventurous to get stoned with the mimes?"

He snorted, "You know.. There were some brilliant Expeditioners over the years." He leaned over conspiratorially, waving Sciel closer. In a hushed voice that was barely holding back laughter, he said, "The mushrooms in Esquie's cave are toxic in large doses. In small amounts, its effects make for quite the pleasant evening."

Sciel inched a little closer, eager to here whatever secret he was willing to share with her. She snorted, gently shoving Verso's shoulder. "A pleasant evening, eh? Now I'm even more curious."

"I don't think I'm going to be able to move on from garlic bread. This is the best thing I've tasted in decades."

"Even better than nevron soup or nevron casserole? Those sound quite appetizing to me. Oh, what about Esquie's special mushrooms?"

"Oh, ma coccinelles." There were a few things that Maelle (rather 'Alicia', but neither she nor Lune could ever refer to her as such and the girl seemed to prefer it) had been actively avoiding talking about. When she brought them back from the mass gommage, a thought that still sent shivers down Sciel's spine, she pulled her and Lune aside and explained everything.

The Paintress, Aline. Renoir, the real Renoir--Maelle's father--trapped beneath the Monolith, the true nightmare that had plagued Lumiere with the gommage relentlessly every year. And Verso...

It was a lot to process. Their world was far more complicated than Sciel could have ever imagined. Wondrous, a part of her would have loved to know how it all truly worked, but it wasn't important. Not at that moment. Something had been haunting Maelle, possibly ever since her memories as "Alicia" were returned to her.

Sciel brushed a few stray strands of hair, now a pure white as whimsical as the snow at Monoco's Station, from Maelle's face. "I guess I can't call you that anymore," she said, a soft laugh leaving her lips. A lighthearted tease to help Maelle feel more comfortable. "Of course, I would. I'm right here for you. Not going anywhere."

Alan is the commander of Expedition 33. He decided to devote the last year of his life to the Expedition with the desire to secure a future for his 14 year old daughter, Leona, after his wife gommaged two years prior. This decision caused friction between him and his daughter, and she refused to see him before he and his crew set sail for the Continent, the last words he ever heard from her being: "I hate you."

Alan is soft spoken and no - nonsense, taking his position seriously. An astute mind and strategical thinker, he was chosen to lead Expedition 33 due to his ability to determine the strengths of others and plan strategies accordingly. He himself uses fire skills and is an adept sword fighter.

"Yes, you've told me that, but why is he supposed to win? Simply because his father is important?" Gustave tsks shaking his head with a mild amount of distaste. "I understand there's a precedent for that being the way it usually works but. It just feels like such a cop-out. Like, it's too easy." He was sitting, more sprawled out than was polite for society but he and Alan had known each other long enough that social norms could be somewhat forgotten without much thought.

Tipping his head back to look at Alan, Gustave waved a hand lightly. "I'm just saying, if there is supposed to be a reason for him to win, it needs to be moreso than 'because'."

Alan can't help but chuckle about Gustave's criticisms. Their different tastes in media often led to one having questions that might have seemed obvious to the other. "I think it's a social hierarchy thing," he said, shrugging his shoulders. "Or pity. You'll notice in a lot stories like these the son is usually incompetent."

Incompetent and arrogant. In real life, people like that tended to get the crap out of them. "If it helps, he doesn't make it to the last third."
