There are some people where it just never will be the right time. Everyone has a person where they can see themselves ending up with them yet nothing has ever happened and nothing might ever happen. The idea of them is so perfect and yet the way life works out they will always just be that for you, an idea. And I’ve never told this person how I’ve felt, not seriously. I don’t think I ever could because I think it would hurt too much. Merry Christmas to anyone who’s christmas feels a little different this year. I think that sometimes we use the holidays as a checkpoint. Each time they come around we see all the things that have changed in the last year. We’re flooded with the feeling of familiarity that comes with christmas lights and pine scented candles but we’re also met with the incredible awareness that everything has changed since the last time we decorated a christmas tree. When people pass away, there is a process. There is shock and disbelief. There are tears. Not long after, there are preparations for a funeral and kind messages from people who want to do more but cannot. There is a funeral. There is something like a void. And the world spins so slowly, you think it has stopped. I’ve been listening to the kind of music we’d shared, walking along the train lines from the park towards home. I realised that when you’re lucky enough that you’ve found your people, and you share a lot of things with them including a part of yourself and they die, you don’t get that back. They take that with them. That’s the risk you take when you grow close to someone. And you either take it, or you live alone.
