secondly, i get inspo from the most random shit ever. like, this current one was just me craving mint chocolate ice-cream 💀💀 as for what apps i use — i download the pics from Pinterest by searching "[xyz] png", remove the background with the auto-detect in my gallery & then put it all together using ibis paint x. canva, for me also, is very frustrating to use!!! i have cried actual tears over that shit :'))) but there are some really good tutorials on yt if you want to learn how to use canva properly!

Maybe I'll never stand at Jantar Mantar. Maybe I'll never march to Parliament. Maybe I'll never undertake a hunger strike—and perhaps I shouldn't have to. But I refuse to become the kind of citizen who mistakes scrolling for participation or silence for patriotism. Democracy was never built by people who looked away; it was built by ordinary people who cared enough to ask difficult questions, even when the answers were inconvenient.
So no, I'm not asking you to agree with Sonam Wangchuk. I'm asking you to care. Care enough to read beyond the headline. Care enough to verify before you amplify. Care enough to question power—whoever holds it. Care enough to defend the right to peaceful dissent, even when you disagree with the person dissenting. Because the moment citizens stop expecting accountability, accountability quietly begins to disappear.
And maybe that's what frightens me most. Not corruption by itself. Not paper leaks alone. Not unemployment in isolation. Democracies have always faced crises. What frightens me is how easily we've begun to accept these problems as inevitable, how quickly we've learned to shrug, sigh, and say, "Nothing will change." Because that's exactly how change dies—not with a dramatic collapse, but with a generation that slowly convinces itself there's no point in trying.
I refuse to believe that the world's largest democracy is too fragile to answer its citizens. I refuse to believe that young Indians are destined to inherit distrust instead of opportunity. And I refuse to believe that patriotism means applauding everything instead of wanting something better. Loving your country has never meant refusing to question it. If anything, it means believing it is capable of becoming fairer, stronger and more accountable than it is today.
We are the most educated, the most connected and the most informed generation this country has ever produced. So let's act like it. Ask better questions. Demand stronger institutions. Protect truth as fiercely as you protect your opinions. Hold power accountable—whoever happens to hold it—and never let anyone convince you that caring about your country begins and ends with casting a vote once every few years. Democracy isn't an event; it's a habit, a responsibility, a conversation that every generation must choose to continue.
History is not being written only in Parliament or in courtrooms. It's being written in classrooms, libraries, university campuses, newsrooms, peaceful protests, and yes—even here, on our screens. The question isn't whether history is watching. It always is.
The question is whether, when your country needed citizens, you chose to be one—or settled for being a spectator.
Which brings me to the question I haven't been able to stop thinking about.
What is democracy supposed to look like between elections?
We're taught that democracy means voting every five years. But surely it has to mean more than that. It has to mean citizens can ask uncomfortable questions without being dismissed as anti-national. It has to mean peaceful protest is heard before it becomes a medical emergency. It has to mean institutions earn public trust through transparency, not simply ask for it. And it has to mean that disagreement is treated as participation—not betrayal.
That's why this story unsettles me.
Because whether you agree with Sonam Wangchuk or not, the image of a respected educator and environmentalist weakening himself through an indefinite fast should make all of us uncomfortable. A democracy should never become so difficult to reach that a citizen believes an empty stomach is the only way to make themselves heard.
Maybe the government believes its actions were necessary to protect his health. Maybe his supporters believe those actions silenced a peaceful protest. Those are questions that courts, institutions and public debate will continue to examine. But beneath those disagreements lies something much bigger than any one case.
How do we want our democracy to respond when citizens dissent peacefully?
Because if every criticism is treated as hostility, every protest as an inconvenience, and every uncomfortable question as something to manage instead of answer, then we slowly stop participating. Not because we've stopped caring—but because we stop believing our voices matter.
And honestly?
I don't think we're angry enough.
Not angry in the sense of hatred. Not the kind that burns buses, spreads misinformation or abuses strangers online. We've seen enough of that.
I mean the kind of anger that refuses to become numb.
The kind that reads before it reposts.
The kind that asks for evidence instead of rumours.
The kind that demands accountability without abandoning fairness.
The kind that writes, organises, votes, questions, volunteers, reports, studies and refuses to let difficult conversations disappear after one news cycle.
Because somewhere along the way we've mistaken scrolling for participation.
A protest trends.
We repost it.
We add three broken-heart emojis.
We argue with strangers for fifteen minutes.
Then another scandal arrives.
Another reel.
Another controversy.
Another distraction.
And somehow the people whose futures are actually on the line are left exactly where they started.
History has never changed because people refreshed their feed.
It changed because ordinary citizens refused to become spectators.
So where is our outrage when students lose years to uncertainty? Where is our impatience when trust in public institutions begins to crack? Where is the urgency when environmental warnings are treated as tomorrow's problem? Where is the collective insistence that honesty, competence and public service should never be exceptions—they should be the standard?
Because if we're old enough to inherit the consequences of this country, then we're old enough to help shape its future.
History is literally watching.
The only question is whether we'll keep scrolling—or finally start paying attention.
