Anna Pogossova

Australian by nurture, Russian by nature, Anna Pogossova brings a beautiful take on pop art to the modern streamlined world. She explores still life, scenery, and advertising within her realm of simplistic color palettes and extraordinary composition. She utilizes extreme vantage points to create a brilliant view of the sky and horizon in scenery, which draws the audience into her soft, beautiful work. Her advertising work combines still life and pop art in order to highlight product design as well as add an appealing artistic draw.

I love the muted colors Pogossova uses. They draw such a soft, welcoming feeling to all of her work, no matter the subject. It is unique, bright and comforting without being particularly flashy or harsh. I find her work to be reminiscent of a simple life, and a great memory of youthfulness and daydreams.

Taken through his travels, Rao captures the most serene glances of picturesque scenery as he goes. While I adore his use of color, he also includes black and white images in his body of work. What draws me so deeply to his art is the softness of the natural world, even when capturing the sharp edges of a mountain or a harsh winter afternoon.

Florian Ritter

Shanghai based photographer, Florian Ritter left his homeland of Germany to explore the world. To begin his journey, Ritter took a course in photography while visiting New York and realized all of the subtleties that photography had to offer beyond image capture. With this knowledge he ventured onward and developed a career while exploring the bounty of Earth as culture, landscape and life. 

Ritter offers unique travel photos as he not only collects images of still, interesting sights, but also life in motion. He offers a worlds eye view of a small corner of life. From the growth on a hillside to the seemingly forgotten walls of a home, Ritter guides his audience through a narrative of life in motion, captured in moments.

Henrik Knudsen

Henrik Knudsen is a Danish native who travels the world in search of images that reflect on cinema and the narrative of life. He travels wide and far to find glassy, still like places with character and a classic aesthetic resilience. Much of his work involves life in a limited color pallet and a quiet, brief introduction into his subjects lives.While he mainly focuses on human subjects, some of his work involves scenery, modeling and architecture. 

My biggest draw to his work is the clean color pallet and his use of photographic space to provide a simple image of life, even within a complex scene. Knudsen offers an inspiring view of life on the road, and life as a journey. I greatly appreciate his professional work showing something as personal as travel and moments beyond staged photography.

Gordon Parks Photographer during segregation era America documented the life as a black man in Missouri. Through both his color and black and white images Parks captures the tired feeling of life as in openly segregated America. There are intimate moments between families, tense moments in non-segregated areas and times when everything seems comfortably mixed in. Parks shares these moments in his photographic legacy. I personally find his work to be vital and just as relevant now than ever. America is still in a time of social unrest, laced with racism and with the interest of change. Parks sheds a light on a time not long ago, but still too often forgotten.

Kajia stramanus Latvian artist Kajia Stramanus took the internet by storm with her satirical self portraits entitled "Head Shots." They depict her rather stoic expression as she is hit in the face with objects vaulted through the air. A commentary or a personal interest, either way Stramanus takes a hit to the face with more grace than artists. The rest of her work is softer, more focused on the day to day life, often involving her travels, her cat or less violent self portraits. If her "headshot" series is any indication of what the young artist has to offer, I am a fan. She displays an excellent knowledge of lighting, composition and movement within her most popular work.

Gerda Taro Known for making strides not only as a contemporary photographer, Gerda Taro also conquered the battle field as a subject and was one if the first photographers to document war as verb rather than war in formality. Capturing the human moments, and the gory moments, Taro is remembered for her powerful determination and contribution to what is known as "The Mexican Suitcase." This collection of works is a vital piece to understanding, and witnessing the Spanish civil war.

Isaiah  Baskins

Isaiah Baskins is a student photographer based in New York City. Isaiah fumbled his way into a passion for photography at a young age, documenting family vacations on a disposable camera. Upon realizing his love for photography, Baskins invested in a 35mm pentax camera to document his "skate board shenanigans" (as he put in an interview last week). Later this interest developed and Baskins found a love in digital photography, where his current work resides in documenting his still growing world. He draws inspiration from his surroundings and notably, another young photographer he met in New Mexico. You can follow their interactions on instagram under #goodmorningmrbaskins and #goodmorningfofanyan. The pair interact in a simple, but clearly respectful manner. His future holds many promising opportunities, primarily publishing an underground magazine based off of his high school experience. 

I find Baskins' work to be a refreshing look at youthful interaction. As someone who finished high school and left with a grudge, Baskins' work is an amazing take on how the often overlooked time of growth can have such a great effect on personal development. His documentary style has an artistic quality that reflects the turmoil and the joys of youth. I look forward to hearing from, and seeing Mr. Baskins' work soon.

Kevin Cooley

Kevin Cooley completed his Bachelors at Lewis and Clark in Portland, Oregon and his masters at The School Of Visual Arts in New York City. 

I really enjoy Cooley's use of light. Lighting is everything; it is obvious and often a focal point of Cooley's work. the incorporation of naturally occurring elements as well as staged priton of the images work very well in conveying an otherworldly feeling while still keeping the images close to home.

Frank Relle

New Orleans based photographer Frank Relle is renowned for his nightscapes and social commentary. His work has been featured in the Smithsonian Museum of American History, the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts Houston as well as many private collections, of well known people. His journey to becoming a photographer was something worthy of a memoir however, Relle decided that he liked the appeal of interpretation and storytelling that photography provided. 

I really enjoy the serene feeling Relle's photos offer. His work shows a very grounded perspective of a world in distress, while offering a welcoming view of the same scenes. His nightscapes really appeal to me as I often find comfort in the quiet of night as well as the exploratory aspect of the abandoned subjects. I also find a comforting element within his documentary style "Inside" project. It shows some of the more startling aspects of a home life, while also exhibiting a lived in feel.
