One of the most under-appreciated locales in Kalimdor is the reputed wasteland of Desolace. Despite misconceptions of the area, there are actually a few sights that are quite appealing. Whether you enjoy fishing, swimming, marine life, the natural world, archeology, ancient architecture, or simply want to enjoy a peaceful getaway with a drink in your hand, you can find solace in Desolace.
The easiest way to access Desolace is by way of Thunder Bluff. You can take a zeppelin to the city from Orgrimmar or contact us for portal access. Alternatively, there is always the option of simply flying to Desolace.
We have listed the best sights in the order we recommend visiting them, but feel free to pick the one you find most interesting and visit it directly.
Shadowprey Village
Coordinates 26, 75
Shadowprey Village is a direct flight from Thunder Bluff via the flight path and is certainly one of Kalimdor’s most overlooked relaxation destinations.
This coastal Troll fishing village, with its expansive views of the Veiled Sea, is one of the best places in Kalimdor to enjoy the sunset. The sun disappears into the sea on the northwestern horizon at around seven in the evening, so arrive an hour or two before that to appreciate the view.
Atop the hill at Shadowprey Village is a spacious, well-stocked inn with beautiful views and rooftop hammocks. The secluded village is usually quiet but the inn is large enough to accommodate parties.
If you enjoy fishing, or you’d like to learn, Lah’Mawhani or Mai’Lahii (23, 72) near the pier can sell you a fishing pole and supplies, and Wulan (26, 70) in the Village can sell you recipes to cook your catch.

Nearby hazards: Outside the village, centaurs patrol the desert.
Slitherblade Shore
Coordinates expanding around 32, 14
Slitherblade Shore is just north of Shadowprey Village. You can fly yourself or the shore can be accessed by way of Ethel Rethor or Furien’s Post. These locales are only a short flight from the end of the pier at Shadowprey Village. On the flight you will note the barren landscape and desolate ruins that earned Desolace its name.
Despite the apparent dangers here, one could spend an entire day under water, diving in the rich trenches of sea life and exploring the wondrous architectural ruins below the surface -- and with the air-releasing fissures in the sea bed to breathe from, one could certainly attempt to do so!
Karnum’s Glade is located in central Desolace and is accessible by flight path. A wondrous example of the healing magics implemented by the Cenarion Circle, this settlement is in a lush oasis known as the Cenarion Wildlands in an otherwise barren land.
Here you can enjoy the tranquility of the pond (at 57, 45), appreciate the techniques used to grow new trees, rest in a Kal’dorei cottage, or simply take in the wondrous peace of nature.Â
Or, if you prefer a more Horde-like setting, Ghost Walker Post is a Tauren settlement just a few steps south of the Glade. The bridge at Ghost Walker Post (54, 54) offers an unparalleled view of the nearby Kodo Graveyard.
Just a few steps northeast of Karnum’s Glade is a dazzling revitalized waterway with crystal clear water and two small active waterfalls. The grassy Wildlands surrounding it are lush with new tree growth and carpets of blue flowers. If you can avoid the basilisk population, this is a perfect fishing spot, swimming hole, or picnic area.

Spend some time skipping port to port down the southern coast of Northrend on the back of a huge turtle! The Kalu’ak tuskarr outfit their traveling turtles with all the supplies and nets you’ll need, plus a special fishing deck. Along the way you’ll stop at various fishing villages and points of interest!
1. Board The Mighty Wind in Orgrimmar (45, 62). (Let us know if you need a portal to the city!) This zeppelin will fly you directly to Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra, Northrend.
2. From the top of Warsong Hold, fly to Unu’pe, Borean Tundra.
Unu’pe
Unu’pe is a Kalu’ak fishing village with supplies, travel and direct access to the Frozen Sea. The warm inn is located on the ledge up the path.
Optional side trip:
Just north of Unu’pe is Taunka’le Village, accessible on foot or on a short flight. The taunka there have comfortable accommodations for larger groups and you can warm up in the shallow steam spring just outside their door.
3. When you are ready to leave Unu’pe, head for the dock and board the traveling turtle (79, 54) for Moa’ki Harbor, Dragonblight. While aboard, cast a line and enjoy the view as you pass by the waterfalls at Coldwind Pass, Moonrest Gardens, The Briny Pinnacle, and Kili’ua’s Atoll. (Keep an eye out for the giant crab Kili’ua!)
Moa’ki Harbor
Moa’ki Harbor is the next Kalu’ak village you’ll visit and is home to the Moa’ki Turtle Riders. The inn is up on the ridge above the fishing huts. The village offers a flight path and harbor fishing just off the Frozen Sea.
Optional side trip:
If you have a high tolerance for cold, or a really good diving suit, try diving in the harbor just south of the village (48, 80). Among the underwater plant life and rocks you’ll be able to observe crab traps in action, schools of fish, sharks, starfish and other strange sea life. You’ll also have a rare vantage of the turtles coming and going -- from below!
4. Once satisfied with the time you’ve spent in Moa’ki Harbor, board the turtle on the east dock (50, 78), which will take you to Kamagua, Howling Fjord. On the journey, enjoy views of the ancient Path of Titans, the bones at the Emerald Dragonshrine, the cathedral at New Hearthglen, the shipwrecks of The Forgotten Shore, the lighthouse at Venture Bay, and Shattered Straits.
Kamagua
The fishers of Kamagua take their fishing as seriously as they take preserving the local wildlife. The warm and inviting inn is just southeast of the central bonfire (25, 60). In addition to fishing the Frozen Sea, the village also offers a flight path and nearby access to The Ancient Lift (25, 62) which you can ride up and down, to and from the main land of Howling Fjord.

South of Kamagua is Scalawag Point (36, 80). A notorious hideaway for pirates and scalawags, the seas surrounding it are rich with rockfin grouper, imperial manta rays, bonescale snappers, orcas, great reef sharks, and sea cows. From a boneyard just across the water (38, 75) you can board the Sister Mercy to watch a skeleton crew (literally!) take on a giant. Back at the Point, you can watch pirates duel, chat up the locals around the bonfire, or spend the night on a pirate ship. (Just beware of angry pirates.)
5. Your sightseeing cruise has ended at Kamagua but fishing is still readily available as you make your way back home. From Kamagua, take the flight path to Vengeance Landing. As you fly, enjoy vantages of Westwind Lift, Daggercap Bay, Utgarde Keep, and Giant’s Run.
Vengeance Landing
Vengeance Landing is not known as a fishing destination, but the docks make a good fishing spot, and the shoreline just north of them is teeming with giant tidecrawlers. Angelina Soren, the local fishing expert, can be found at the docks and may be willing to share a tip or two.
Optional side trip:
Fish Lake Cauldros from atop the dam at Utgarde Keep (61, 44) west of Vengeance Landing. The dam itself is a marvel of beautiful architecture, the fishing is good, and it offers a great view.
6. Return home by boarding the zeppelin The Cloudkisser from Vengeance Landing. It will take you to Tirisfal Glades, where you can disembark or take another zeppelin (The Thundercaller) back to Orgrimmar.
Azshara, perhaps due to its history and perhaps due to its wild and remote nature, is one of the forgotten beauties of Azeroth. With this camping adventure you can choose one site for a quick getaway, or start at the first camping site and spend days exploring Azshara’s north coast.
Access Azshara through Orgrimmar’s rear gate (Let us know if you require a portal!) and travel east to board the Rocketway at the Orgrimmar Rocketway Exchange.Â
Travel to the Northern Rocketway Exchange. From there, you can travel northwest on foot to the first campsite. (If you’d rather skip to one of the other sites, travel to the Northern Terminus instead.)
Campsite 1
Coordinates 34, 20 (non-flying) or 33,16 (flying)
This site features a vast view of Azshara’s Jagged Reef and The Great Sea beyond, alongside a huge waterfall that spills hundreds of feet from Hyjal to the sea below.
Nearby sites include:
Mysterious Waterfalls (77, 71 - flying only) - A short trip north, along the coast and below Winterspring are mysterious waterfalls that spring from the rocks only to disappear into the earth again below. Lush grass and trees make the precipice a wonderful alternate camping site.
Northern Rocketway Exchange (42, 25) - Just south of the site is the northern exchange point for the Rocketway, which offers a quick and convenient trip to the nearest flight path, Gallywix Pleasure Palace, or Orgrimmar.
Jagged Reef - The sea bed below the waterfall is scattered with mollusk shells and you may encounter a lonely shore crab here and there.
Nearby hazards: Keep an eye out for the healthy population of hippogryphs and the occasional furbolg.
Campsite 2
Coordinates 67, 10
This site features a wide open view of the Great Sea, direct access to the shallow reef, a great fishing location, and of course the beach!

Azshara’s Northern Rocketway (66, 21) - The northernmost point of the famed goblin Rocketway is just south of the beach. From here you can access a flight path, or ride the Rocketway from end to end!
Bitter Reaches - This distant and lonely edge of Azshara is known as the Bitter Reaches. Although rough and, some would say, uninhabitable, the area is home to a wide array of wildlife including turquoise turtles, squirrels, rabbits, and even the rare robo-chick. It also offers beautiful and rarely-seen views in a setting that could be considered serene were it not for the wild nature of the land and sea.
Nearby hazards: Chimaera, hippogryphs, dragonkin, sable drakes, the tide, and the occasional cliff crasher.
Campsite 3
Coordinates 77, 20
A beautiful and peaceful locale overlooking the Jagged Reef, Great Sea, and ancient ruins. Revel in the serenity of falling leaves as you listen to the crashing waves and observe the local coralshell population.

The Ruins of Arkkoran and the Tower of Eldara - Just east of and viewable from the site are the Ruins of Arkkoran and the Tower of Eldara. It is said that the supposed god of the sea giants once resided here, and the ruins date back to a vast ancient night elven civilization. Explore the tide pools of the sand bars in the Jagged Reef beyond and find the rare but colorful coral and plant life that resides in them! Find yourself surrounded by shore crabs, turquoise turtles, and coralshell lurkers.
Hunting Blind? (68, 23) - Whatever this abandoned site was meant to be, it provides a great hunting blind for the intrepid hunter looking to bag some local wildlife. It is located within a dense population of mosshoof coursers and mistwing ravagers and is within view of the Northern Rocketway.
Azshara’s Northern Rocketway (66, 21) - The northernmost point of the famed goblin Rocketway is just west of the site. From here you can access a flight path, or ride the Rocketway from end to end!

Campsite 4
Coordinates 60, 31
Spend the night in a huge turtle shell on the sandy coast of the Bay of Storms, within reach of ancient night elven ruins and with Bilgewater Harbor just across the bay. (Swimming and fishing not recommended.)

Bilgewater Harbor - Home to one of the Horde’s biggest defenses, it is also a settlement of the best goblin debauchery has to offer -- greasy food, fruity drinks, gambling, a random economy and giant things that explode.
Bay of Storms - Watch the ships come and go, dodging the underwater defenses of the Horde’s Bilgewater Harbor. Also home to a large population of Makrinni makrura and coralshell lurkers. You may also spot a yellowfin shark swimming by!
Azshara’s Northern Rocketway (66, 21) - The northernmost point of the famed goblin Rocketway is just north of this beach. From here you can access a flight path, or ride the Rocketway from end to end!

Although rough and, some would say, uninhabitable, the area is home to a wide array of wildlife including turquoise turtles, squirrels, rabbits, and even the rare robo-chick. Nearby hazards: Makrura, chimaera, hippogryphs, various goblin explosives, sharks, nearby night elves, naga, and Legashi satyr.
Winterspring is perhaps best known for its hot springs, but its snow-covered beauty makes this a haven for wildlife photographers and S.E.L.F.I.E. enthusiasts. It is recommended that you take an Ornate Spyglass to take in the truly great views of this often under-appreciated wonderland. (And be sure to practice your snowball pitch!)Â
There are a number of ways to access Winterspring, but it is easiest to fly north from Orgrimmar’s flight path (Let us know if you need a portal!) or to take the portal to Hyjal from The Western Earthshrine in Orgrimmar. Once you arrive at Nordrassil, you can take the flight path north to Winterspring.
We recommend using one or more of the four accommodations listed in the information below.
Sights and Recreation:
Hot Springs - The beautiful Frostfire Hot Springs are located in the western reaches of Winterspring. Just outside of Timbermaw Hold (on the road to Felwood) is the first of these (22, 47) but the proximity of Winterfall furbolg makes it a bit uninviting for most. There is another hot spring further east (31, 49) but be prepared to deal with elementals. The best and most highly recommended of the hot springs is at Snowden Chalet (24, 60) south of Timbermaw Hold. Plan time to warm up and relax your aches away here!
Frozen Waterfall at Lake Kel’Theril (50, 58) - This waterfall is a challenge to those who consider themselves athletic. See how fast you can race to the top, or spend some time sliding down the bottom slope. (Be prepared for a hard fall!) Beware of obstacles of arcane magic tossed down the slide by an angry shade at the top of the falls.
Ice skating at Lake Kel’Theril (51, 55) - Enjoy a day on the lake amidst ancient ruins and a snow-covered wonderland. Have a picnic in the snow, ice skate, or explore ancient architecture. Beware of the spirits that wander here!
Starfall Village (49, 41) - Explore this night elven village. The lodge offers one of the best views of Winterspring, and the most brave and adventurous can explore the nearby Ban’Thallow Barrow Den, but beware of its inhabitants.
Goodgrub Smoking Pit (56, 28) - If you love to savor the local fare and aren’t afraid of a little mystery meat, this is the destination for you! In the snowy reaches north of Everlook (northeast of Starfall Village), Jez Goodgrub’s establishment smokes the finest meats the local hunters and trappers bring them.
Accommodations:
The Laughing Yeti, Everlook (60, 51) - This is a neutral goblin establishment run by Innkeeper Vizzie. A reprieve from the snow, this inn offers rough beds, hammocks, and food on the table.
The Lodge, Starfall Village (49, 41) - This is a night elven establishment but they are open to most travelers. There are no sleeping accommodations but vendors will sell you food and drink and there is an amazing view of Winterspring.
Night Elf House, Starfall Village (50, 38) - This traditional night elf house is open to travelers. Plenty of windows let in natural light and there is a sleeping nook and a reading nook for when you’d rather stay in.
Tent, Snowden Chalet (25, 58) - You will have to bring your own supplies to this simple tent in the snow at Snowden Chalet. Outside the door, a roaring campfire or a hot spring will keep you warm.
