HEADCANON. lila wasn’t lying when she said her parents were diplomats. born in milan, italy, lila was only two when her parents went on their first tour of duty to South Africa (diplomatic tours typically last 3-4 years). lila was often alone with a nanny while her parents worked long and tiring days. often, the toddler would go days without having much interaction with either of her parents. it wasn’t that they didn’t love her, but the combined responsibility of their jobs and childrearing was too much.

by the time lila was 10, she had lived in four different countries. each place was drastically different than the last, and the girl had a hard time adjusting. often, she was placed in prestigious international schools with the children of other diplomats who typically had already formed groups by the time lila would enter the school. as such, lila developed a need to stand out and be desirable. she began lying about the places she’d been to and the people she’d met, creating an elaborate life around these lies. while occasionally it would backfire, lila would typically find herself relocated soon after.

without much parental guidance or affection, lila grew rather detached from her emotions. she rarely sees a point in love as a useful tool, relying more on infatuation as a replacement. she sees love as secondary to benefit, primarily her own. in order for lila to be satisfied, she has to be completely in control of a situation, whether it be friendship or otherwise. compromise and other opinions aren’t something lila deals well with, especially when it comes down to confrontation. 

lila does have a conscious and feels guilty when faced with the consequences of her actions, however, the guilt is typically quickly and easily replaced by rage towards being called out instead of repenting for her actions in a sincere manner. her self-awareness when it comes to this is astonishingly low, preferring to lay the blame on others rather than herself.

often, lila will rely on emotional manipulation as a secondary tactic in order to make sure the victim of her affections (platonic or romantic) won’t betray or leave her. afraid of abandonment, lila has constructed a fantastical world of lies that she continues to add to in order to seem larger than life. above everyone else, she is able to control situations as she wishes and keep her iron grasp on those “below” her.

true friendship isn’t likely something she’s able to achieve, as lila’s personality has become such that she needs to be in control all the time. relinquishing control has become impossible as she needs to be adored and worshipped, even, at all times. the ups and downs of a normal friendship would be unbearable, and therefore, unthinkable.

HONEST. are there any adrien / marinette (though not limited to) blogs that would be willing to explore some more toxic aspects of being in a close (platonic or romantic) relationship with lila? i mean things like blackmail, emotional manipulation, attempting to buy loyalties, ruining reputations, etc.

               the feigned worry was almost believable, every aspect of her body tense––––had it not been for the ice-shard eyes that stared deep into adrien’s soul. he was hers now, not that stupid insetto that had lost her chance. and as far a lila was aware, now he had no reason to see the heroine. ❛ i love you, adrien. ❜ leaning in closer, full lips rested atop his own, a soft kiss full of misleading tenderness. this was only the start. // ( @suaveclaws )

        Chloe was well aware of the new italian student clinging onto her Adrien — the struggles of having new students fall for another classic MODEL only to find out that model had someone else. the blonde notices lila’s face expressions, did she actually care ? not even a slight bit. Chloe knew well that Adrien was her priority and hers only. thus, in irritation, the blonde smiled toward the italian female, just to keep it down low and sarcastically showing that Adrien was all hers and not lila’s.

               wow, this chick thought the world of herself, didn’t she? even lila could tell adrien’s skin was crawling at her touch, the posse around her couldn’t have looked more uncomfortable. it was with fluid movement that lila found herself walking towards them, gait as smooth as if she were gliding atop the floor. ❛ hey, princessa. didn’t anyone ever teach you to not make others sick with your presence? monsieur agreste here looks ready to barf. honestly, i feel bad for you, not having any self awareness to see just how much the entire class hates you. i’d say it’s almost more than me! ❜

hi there! it's really amazing to see someone so devoted to Lila's character like yourself, giving her so much life and develop! however, i was wondering... do you think Lila could ACTUALLY fall in love with someone else besides Adrien? Do you think she would lie to (or even manipulate) them as well or just be honest after everything that happened? love your blog! kisses & have a great day/night!

HONEST. AHHHHH COME BACK LET ME LOVE YOU???? honestly, lila’s character is one that really interests me because so many people take her surface traits and say that’s it, that’s all there is. but that’s really not the case! my family actually dealt with someone very close in personality to lila, but that’s another story.

but to answer your question, yes, i do believe lila is capable of being infatuated with others. i’m still not sure she’s truly capable of love like how you and i think of it––––but she certainly sees it as love, and in return expects wholehearted devotion. adrien agreste, the rich model son of a huge fashion designer, just happened (lbr she probably planned to go to the same school as him) to catch her interest this time, with lila immediately latching onto him. it’s my thought she knew he was attending françois dupont before she arrived, which is how she was able to set her stage so quickly. 

now, lila has certainly latched onto people in the past, but currently, she’s focused on adrien. and i don’t see that changing anytime soon? if chloé were more bearable, lila might try to get close to her, but i think their clashing interests will be too big of a barrier. marinette is another potential target, as she’s widely liked by ( virtually ) everyone in the class and pretty outspoken. however, lila wouldn’t stop lying. she would greatly tone down the scale of her lies in order to avoid the issues from her first day, but lila fears her life and herself aren’t interesting enough to be even considered without being “spiced up” so to speak.

everyone that lila sees has a purpose to her––––no matter what the end goal is. so i don’t think that she’s really capable of being honest ( in my portrayal ) after having lied for so many years. i think it’s become so engrained in her personality, that it’s going to be nearly impossible to stop, even if she wanted to.
