While drawing this I found out that each bead represents a hail mary in prayer isn’t that cool
Love to hear any interpretations of this piece, discussing symbolism in art is so interesting
( but if you are curious about the artist interpretation is, it’s the difference in reality and hallucinations I really wanted the reality to be really bleak and desaturated like cold harsh reality(possibly her in prison) and the emphasise the bright yellow raincoat in the horrors of the world.
Stratt is curled into a fetal position while praying, juxtaposing her usually strong demeanour and pragmatic nature. The irony that the praying frames the very person she sent to die. She’s allowing herself to finally break, to be beyond the world scapegoat and to feel the repercussions of her actions in the comfort of a jail cell after the Hail Mary launches
This hallucination of Grace so bright and saturated, removed from reality and something you simply cannot ignore while he’s right in the middle staring at her, you know what you did, a manifestation of her guilt. To really drive home this is NOT actually grace the expression is something we’d never see on grace when he’s alive. This cold, accusatory stare. While Grace’s position is him bending down to peer at her while she’s praying placing he in a higher position different than how they were, also resembling the moment he pressed into the ground the last she’d seen him conscious
The rosary is me playing with the symbolism even more, we already know of all the religious symbolim in PHM Hail Mary full of grace, so I replaced the cross with the Hail Mary seeing as the similar shape. And Stratts belief in the Hail Mary. The rosary also attached to her neck binding her hands and neck together like a prisoner she knows this project will make her while also imitating the petrova line.)
I really liked the colours I had for Stratt but I had to mute them cause I really wanted the contrast in saturation between reality and not
I love the artist's interpretation and focus to detail! The way their gazes are focused is killing me.
The contrast is beautifully done. It caught my attention and really let me take in the details. It's heart wrenching.
My two cent interpretation: I love how the illusion of Grace almost looks as though he's looking at Stratt, because his fate was out of his own control. They relied on each other so much, and Stratt "let him down". Yet hers is dedicated on her own hands, because she was the only one in the world who had the power to save so many lives. She wouldn't take that for granted. She was going to make it work.
There is a desperation and a determination found in both expressions and I love it so much.
