Probably all the professors that came before her, but River paid no mind to the advise of any of them. Maybe she should start.

It's a rare off day for Rory, so of course it's pouring outside. But he's got a good book he's been meaning to read - outside of the manuscript Amy's asked him to go through - and the kettle on, and it's quiet but for the sound of raindrops.

So of course the bell goes just as he's settled down onto the couch and opened up his book. It's just his luck, really.

With a sigh that's put upon and no audience to see it, he puts the book pages down on the side table and pushes himself to his feet. "Coming!" he calls as he pads to the door, sliding the last bit on his socks, just for fun.

He's over two thousand years old, give or take. He's allowed to be childish sometimes.

Being faced with an actual child being held by his actual child when he opens the door stuns him silent. Rory looks from River to the toddler in her hands and back to River again. "Please tell me that's not someone I know as an adult who I'm going to see grow up and then realise I know as an adult because I've done that once and I never want to do it again."

The sound of her dad calling "Coming!" makes her smile, the last time she spoke to him had been a few weeks prior his time and longer for her. River lost count but when you have a child, time sure flies between sleepless nights and trying to capture every second she could between working at the university. Luckily there is daycare that offers River the chance to pop in throughout the day while still working, see how her darling daughter is doing.

"Hello to you too, Dad," River laughs, shifting Poppy up further in her arms once more. "No, this is not anyone you know, she is brand new to your index of people we know."

River drops her gaze to Poppy, collecting the courage for the few words she has.

"... This is Poppy, your granddaughter." She looks up at him, anticipating his reaction. Their dynamic already is a bit strange as she was significantly older than him and Amy, and so dropping it on either of them suddenly will throw them for another doozy when learning they're grandparents.

And dare she say, perhaps she could end up on her list of favourites, depending how it all went.

"You know how to make a girl feel special," River replied, an appreciative smile as she gave the Doctor a good once over before settling back on her face and those beautiful eyes. Usually, River wasn't one for those style of glasses but they fit her perfectly. "Oh, that? I had a very good instructor, the best you can for these ships."

The soft hum of the TARDIS approving of such high praise made River smile wider.
