So I went to the article and it says they specifically donated to Friends of United Hatzalah, which apparently is a civilian-led non-profit which just....provides free medical services across Israel. I took these screenshots from the organization's site:

It doesn't seem to say anything about specifically or only helping veterans.

This was also the caption of the restaurant owners' instagram post, which again talked about the organization giving free medical service across Israel, and mentioned nothing about the IDF:

If these people think donating money to an organization that seems to just give free medical service to people in Israel is on par with supporting genocide, I think that says a lot about them.

I have, unfortunately, seen far too many people who very much believe that helping or even acknowledging Israeli citizens in any way is supporting the genocide, because these people believe that every single person living there actually came from somewhere else and is actively, intentionally, participating in the oppression of Palestinians by "choosing" to remain in Israel. Yep, Hatzalah is ambulance service. It exists in New York as well, and primarily serves the religious Jewish community there. During the first surge of covid in March 2020 when New York was going through hell, people were instructed to call Hatzalah instead of 911 if they needed to be hospitalized for covid because the regular ambulance service was super overloaded and Hatzalah came faster.
