The 30th anniversary of my dads death on 12 August 2020.
Only felt natural to send flowers, but, not enough.
I miss him more now, than I did growing up.
SIX WEEKS TO THE DAY OF MY TOTAL HYSTERECTOMY & GUESS WHERE I WAS DIRECTLY AFTER WORK!?
The gym. I lifted for an hour and half and ran my mile. I told myself not to go too hard the first dy, but having those weights in my hands, I couldn’t resist. This year, is my glow up.
I have approximately 3-4 months before top surgery (I have 2 consults, one in August, one in September) and theeeen, I’ll be out for 6-8 weeks depending on recovery.
I am focusing on really trying to build up my chest and core so that my recovery will be smoother.
I want this and I will see it through.
I am growing impatient at this 6 weeks “no exercise + no lifting” situation.
I am beyond ready to get back at it.
10/5, “Vice Hefeweizen,” by Pint 9.
If you can’t tell, I’m a sucker for Pint 9. With that being said, and this may be biased, their Hef was one of the best local brews I have ever had. The banana and clove are so mellow, but that viscous wheaty flavors pulls through. Despite it being a Hefeweizen, it drinks lighter than most and leaves you wanting more.
5/5, “Red Sand Amber Ale,” by Kohola Brewery (Lahaina).
I have to admit, I remember very little about this beer other than it was crushable. It was bready & malty, and it was the last beer I had on the island before we departed. It was enjoyable, for sure. Kohola Brewery was slightly difficult to find in Lahaina (in a very odd industrial area and unmarked), but the taphouse definitely had quite a few customers.
4/5, Bikini Blonde Lager,” by Maui Brewing Co.
I was lucky enough to tour Maui Brewing Company this past August, and without fail, they brought their A-game. The company prices itself on their title “America’s Favorite Solar Craft Brewery.” Yes, they rely solely on solar energy to brew their beer. I thought that was wild and very admirable!
Pictured is most basic of their beers, was their Bikini Blonde lager. It had everything a lager has, and that was the extent of it.
Their taps vary from IPAs, wheat, a porter and a few others. I enjoyed it on their patio as the Hawaiian sun beamed down on us, while my better half and I played their giant connect four game.
Their space was awesome: one side was their tap house, while the other was their restaurant. We bought quite a few items (a metal beer coozie, a few shirts, a hat) and can say that it was a lovely time! Smack dab in the middle of Kihei, Maui Brewing is definitely one to put on your bucket list of breweries.
5/5, “Stuffing Ale,” by Vis Major.
Once a year, Vis Major puts out their holiday flavors fit for a king. In the line, is the stuffing ale. “Stuffing,” or “dressing,” as some may call it, is a fantastic side for any feast. In a beer? Instantly, it piqued my interest. If ever there was a favorite beer, this, was it.
It tasted exactly like stuffing. When describing it, people are put off saying it isn’t something they’d want to drink. That is, until they try it. It’s addicting. I easily purchased 6 Crowlers this holiday season.
It is amber in color, viscous enough to warm your bones. The thyme and rosemary play on your palate and beg for more! Exceptional beer!
2/5, “Slush,” by Prairie Artisan Ales
Can’t lie, I was extremely disappointed with this one. It was tart, but that was the extent of it. The best thing about this sour? The artwork on the can. That was the appeal that drew me in. Needless to say, the appeal stopped there.
Described as having strawberry/raspberry purée notes with a finish of lemon/lime zest... but the fruit overtakes one another and the acidity from the citrus overpowers the fruit and it becomes a veritable domino effect that falls short and leaves your tastebuds confused.
I had a friend of mine try it and she said it tasted like rancid fruit. So, there you have it.
5/5 “Al Pastor,” smoked beer by Pint 9.
For only being in operation for 3 years, Pint 9 is really changing the game and pushing the envelope to create something beautiful.
It seems as if every month, they have a new test beer or rotator, and everyone buzzes about it.
This one, was one of my favorites. It had such a Smokey quality that engulfed your tastebuds, but was mellowed our with the pineapple. It was along the lines of a wheat, but not as heavy nor as cloudy.
Perfect on a snowy day.
8/10 sour.
While this was one of the best sours I have ever had, it left me wanting a little more peach. The sour came through in the beginning, followed by subtle notes of peach.
10/10 weisse.
Full-bodied, without being too overpowering.

Nice!
Everything you need to start drinking beer in one big image set.
Second Chance Brewing’s 3rd Anniversary Imperial Pilsner w/ Maui Brewing (Picked up at Windmill Farms). A 3 of 4. Light and clean, as you would expect, and the jasmine flowers add a great floral and slightly tropical quality in the nose. Some slightly vegetal qualities as well, but has a nice light grain sweetness throughout and is quite refreshing.
Maui, Tayler
This is it. This is where we want to be in a few years.
My most favorite spot…
I stood in this very spot almost a year ago watching some dear friends say their vows.
