Been working on a 3D model of Lore, or just (insert soong-type android here) I guess. Very epic. I initially started this because I wanted to have a 3D head as art reference cause I'm obsessed, but now I'm sort of tempted to model and rig a full thing so I could make him dance and do other funny shit like a puppet.

The irony of this new breed of self-righteous AI hunters on AO3 is that they're all just copy and pasting peoples fics into AI detectors, which are all operated by AI and therefore THEY are feeding people's work into the algorithm without their consent and in some cases no doubt circumventing the locks people put on to avoid getting scraped...

Don't copy and paste anyone's AO3 work into third party websites, you're not the good guys in this situation?

just watched tng's the drumhead, and it's a great (and sadly timely) episode. But i have a quibble with picard's final dialogue with worf

"Mr. Worf, villains who twirl their mustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well-camouflaged."

"I think, after yesterday, people will not be so ready to trust her."

"Maybe. But she or someone like her will always be with us, waiting for the right climate in which to flourish – spreading fear in the name of righteousness. Vigilance, Mr. Worf. That is the price we have to continually pay."

I'm not convinced by picard's dismissal of satie as a villain manipulating other peoples trust in her. I think she absolutely believes in protecting the federation, and that conviction twisted into justifying paranoia and ignoring fundamental rights the federation tries to protect. With that twist she became a villain, though not one who set out to be one

I didnt get from picard's final speech that he was warning about the temptation to trample on people's rights in the name of security (my interpretation), but rather that individuals will use look for opportunities to trample on those rights wherever possible

yeah there are people who gleefully use their positions of power to spread paranoia and tear down institutions meant to protect against this manipulation. but that wasn't how I interpreted satie

idk maybe I just misinterpreted picard's speech and he's saying the same thing from a different angle? good intentions being perverted into something horrible? I personally find that more slippery and something to be constantly vigilant about
