Batty.About.Books' Favorite Sapphic Romance Reads
I'm going to be a little honest with you book lovers and bookish bats: I'm LIVID. Seeing so many people COMPLAIN about a single SEASON of a show highlighting a queer couple (when it was perfectly PEACHY for the same show to have a trouple storyline with two men) after those same book lovers screamed to the rooftops about an Achillian book adaptation…yeah, no, that's not okay. As someone living her own sapphic friends-to-lovers love story, as someone who has grown up surrounded by people who saw straight as the default, as someone who has experienced bi erasure firsthand, I can say, from firsthand experience, that sapphic stories MATTER. Seeing those stories represented on page and screen MATTERS.
But we're not going to argue with people who think otherwise -- people who don't want sapphics to see themselves on-screen for a SEASON and instead want to fetishize Achillian ships. Instead, we're going to highlight the AMAZING sapphic romance reads that are out there -- stories that deserve love, the same way real-life sapphic stories do. Without further ado, here are SOME of my favorite sapphic romance reads.
What's the last sapphic romance book you read?
Morning kisses just hit different. 💋
I love reading Sapphic books but I’m not sure where to find good recommendations. One of the places I frequent for recs is TikTok but there seems to be an issue where content creators promote sapphic books where the characters end up with men at the end of the story or the wlw relationship is mentioned in passing 😭
One such case is Mistress of Lies, a handful of booktokers recommended this as sapphic and while I’ve gotten at least 100 pages in, it seems the love interest are 2 males. One of them is trans (ftm) and as far as I’m aware wants to be acknowledged as male.
Now I find myself annoyed with booktokers who can’t even respect the wishes of a fictional character who is presenting as male. How tone deaf you gotta be to label/promote a book as sapphic when one transitioned into a male 😭
I feel so sick, my anxiety is going through the roof and the cold is making me shake uncontrollably. Dad has an appointment with the lung doctor and I’m so scared.
I did it! Whoa. Good job.
