I present to you my first art piece for this year’s Supernatural Media Big Bang. I was fortunate enough to pick Darmys’ fic, an adventure story based on The Sleeping Dragon by Joel Rosenberg, book 1 of The Guardians of the Flame. As an added bonus, I give you an excerpt from the fic itself:
“Excellent, I want you all to make perception checks,” Chuck says.
Everyone but Cas groans. “What?” he asks.
“Perception checks mean something happens, you want to roll a D20 and add your perception to it which is,” Dean says looking over at Cas’ character sheet, “twelve, and tell Chuck what your total is when he asks you.”
Chuck points to everyone around the table in turn starting with Sam. “I got twenty-five.”
Kevin answers ten when he’s pointed to, and Lisa says sixteen.
Charlie says twenty, and Cas quickly rolls the twenty-sided dice. “Uhm I rolled a thirteen, plus the twelve is twenty-five total?”
He asks more than answers. Dean grins encouragingly at him before saying to Chuck, “I rolled a nat twenty, for thirty-two total.”
“I’m still asleep,” Benny says.
“What did you roll?” Chuck asks. “Three for a total of one,” Benny says then looks at Cas, “my perception bonus is negative two, I see no evil, hear no evil.”
“Monster? What monster,” Charlie says.
“Scrimzak got a total of twenty-nine,” Cole says. “Dean. You wake up on the side of a grassy hill. In the distance you can see the waters of what appears to be the sea and a port city on its shore. Closer to you, is a suspicious looking wooden crate, and closer still is your party in various states of waking up. What do you do?”
“Kevin. Wake up and prep a spell, I want you to cover the crate, while we wake Benny,” Dean says, noticing there are black flecks swirling around the periphery of his vision. He blinks, once, twice, a third time and shifts his gaze out the window to the Impala hoping changing his focus will clear the black swirl engulfing his sight. He gets a single moment where his sight clears, he’s looking directly at his Baby. Then everything goes black.
