I've written about synthpop band Wild Ones before, when their single "Golden Twin" showed up on the Free on iTunes section. But it's definitely worth mentioning that their ENTIRE ALBUM is now available for free on Noisetrade, and it's 100% worth getting. Each song glimmers with the lead singer's soft, delicate, entrancing voice, and the band's overall calming, but fun, indie soft-pop vibes. It's not often I can say that I love every song on an album, but Keep It Safe has me on lock. No filler tracks, this album is just thoroughly fantastic.

By the grace of God, Chance the Rapper has gifted us with yet another FREE full album. Need I say more? Whatever, I will anyways. Since his breakout album, Acid Rap , let's just say that Chance has not lost his touch. Surf is his first full-length project as a group, Donnie Trumpet and The Social Experiment. They take Chance's brilliance to new heights, but without losing the identity that first had us hooked, from "Good Ass Intro." Chance's style remains unique in the most universally beautiful way, and this album is going to get you g r o o v i n g.

I honestly don't know why it's taken me this long to post about this remix, considering the fact that I've been listening to it on loop for a solid 2 months. Ellie Goulding's Fifty Shades of Grey track "Love Me Like You Do" has spawned about a thousand remakes and remixes, but ALMOND & SAMME's version stands above the rest, taking the original in a completely unexpected direction, by slowing it down. The orginal version of the track has an infectious, lovey-dovey vibe to it, and this remix elegantly manages to keep that intact, the hopless romantic feel that we're all suckers for. Its powerful, but delicate, wave of synths hit you right in the feels, and turn the upbeat pop track into something of an electro-alternative slow dance. Seriously, this shit ~moves~ you, man. Long story short: It's refreshing, it's beautiful, and you will fall in love with it.

Awww snap. Marc Griffin (aka Marc E. Bassy) has blessed us with some free new tracks on his latest work, the East Hollywood EP. As expected, the 2AM Club frontman delivers his signature R&B-Rap style, that hella smooth voice mixed with just the right bite and flow of a successful white-boy R&B rapper, all over a sexy af groove and lax beat. This track, "Free Love" is one of my favorites from the 9-song EP. It's got the vibe of a cheesey R&B/Hip-Hop beat from the late 90s or early 2000s, but Griffin makes it work, as he always does, and turns it into something smooth n' sexy, just the way we like it.

And of course, I couldn't talk about this week's "Free on iTunes" section without talking about my beloved Wombats. If you haven't heard of The Wombats before, A.) that is a very nice rock you're living under and B.) allow me to do the honor of informing you. Think Phoenix meets Young the Giant meets Passion Pit then some brilliant fuck-up accidentally adds chemical X to the mix a la Powerpuff girls and BLAM. You get the ever glorious, The Wombats. Alternatively, if you have heard of The Wombats before, "Emoticons" is everything you'd expect from the new album, Glitterbug, if not a bit more. A groovy bassline, a chorus of soaring synths, the majesty that is Matthew Murphy's voice, high energy all throughout, and lyrics that will tickle your indie adolescent soul.

There's not much I can say about Kevin Garrett's "Coloring," because it is by no means anything revolutionary. His sound is not particularly fresh or new; like something of the same musical DNA as a Sam Smith or Mikky Ekko song. But what makes this song great outweighs any technical expectation. It captures and conveys a feeling. And that is more than enough in my book.

Okay, I couldn't resist grabbing this one off the "Free on iTunes" section. I guess the middle school pop-punk version of me never died... Literally everything about this song makes it sound like something that came straight out of my band-postered, Vans-stickered 8th grade locker. But I'm not gonna lie, I love it. Bring on the nostalgia, folks, and prepare for some major All Time Low / The Academy is... / Mayday Parade feels.

Listening to this song for the first time, I didn't think much of it, at least for the first couple of seconds. I thought it was cute, and I really digged Julian Moon's voice, but other than that, just another singer-songwriter singing an acoustic song about coffee. Then I got to the chorus, and I was sold. Instantly fell in love with it and have been listening to it on loop ever since. I have a thing for catchy cutesy songs that sugarcoat, but still bluntly, throw out expletives. (i.e. Lily Allen's "Fuck You") Moon's voice is so gentle and cute, I was definitely pleasantly surprised with the chorus. I just love the whole sentiment of it, and the way she words it all. Seriously, as a former barista myself these lyrics speak to me on a spiritual level. And that bit at the end where she sings the chorus through gritted teeth, that was just the cherry on top. Too great. In fact, her intonation and pronunciation thorought the whole song is kind of theatrical and it's damn entertaining. New fan of Julian Moon, right here.

Okay seriously, the good-goods just keep keep rolling in from the "Free on iTunes" section. There are quite a few gems in this week's selection, including this track, "Take My Love" by alternative rock group, The Lone Bellow. "Take My Love" sounds like the perfect union between the soft, but heart wrenching sentiments of British band, Bear's Den, and the rough, rock edge of Kings of Leon. And don't even get me started on those lyrics. I mean just look at that title, it's effing beautiful. The whole song is just so full of passion, raw emotion just thrown at you, courageously, beautifully, desperately hoping to be caught.

Ok did I miss something or does the Free on iTunes section change daily now? Not complaining though. I stumbled upon indie pop band Wild Ones a little over a year ago, and instantly fell in love with their refreshingly light synthpop sound. After a while they kind of fell off my radar, so I was pleasantly surprised to see their song, "Golden Twin" on iTunes' free section today. Sure enough, the track reminded me of how crazy good this band is. Definitely not gonna let Wild Ones fall off my radar again.

My favorite track from this week’s Free on iTunes selection. A duo composed of twin sisters Miranda Anna and Elektra June Kilbey-Jansson, Say Lou Lou sounds like the beautimous, destined-for-greatness love child of Haim and Chvrches, a delicate yet powerful blend of indie rock and synthpop. “Nothing But a Heartbeat” is a song I can definitely imagine hearing on a movie soundtrack. It’s just perfectly crafted to have this free, triumphant kind of feel. Think the Perks of Being a Wallflower tunnel scene. Infinite.

God bless the "Free on iTunes" section. It may be hit or miss, but taking a few seconds to scroll through the section is definitely worth it with hidden gems like this song possibly lying around. Delta Spirit's "Language of the Dead" hits the sweet spot between 90s grunge and today's 80s-influenced synth-rock. Think Radiohead and Oasis perfectly blended with Bleachers, and just a hint of Dr.Dog. Just enough play, just enough edge.

Track 3: My Town File under: Sunday morning bike ride (Do people still do that?)

This track exudes sunshine and an early morning breeze, the smell of coffee, and the sound of birds chirping. It comes off as a kind of indie, modernized version of Louis Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World." The upbeat drumming and acoustic guitar make for an undeniably cheerful tune, tempered by some seriously soothing vocals. It's happy, but not obnoxiously so. Like......Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Think about it, you'll know what I mean, I promise.

Track 2: Easy Weather File under: Get some fresh air/Get a little lost.

Everyone needs a little alone time. Get out of the house, travel the old fashioned away, left, right, left, right, left, right. Have no destination. Practice spontaneity. Buy a bagel from the random shop on the corner, take the subway to an unfamilar place and explore, walk around the town you've lived in since you were 5. Let this track works its magic on you. Relax. Observe the world around you. Think. But not too much.

When I first heard this EP, I immediately catergorized it as driving music. And if you ask me, that's best type of the music there is. Driving music, passenger music, walking music, train ride music, bus music, anything that can accompany you on a journey, be it short or long.

I then spent quite a bit of time deciding which song from this brilliant EP I should post about, which song I really wanted you all to hear, but I have come to the conclusion that there are, in fact, 3 songs you absolutely must hear. And so, I bring you Post 1 of 3 on The Bell Hours' Easy Weather EP.

Track 1: For Your Eyes File under: Driving on a rainy day This track covers all its bases as the perfect travelling companion, the steady strum of an acoustic guitar, a simple but haunting piano melody, melancholy lyrics sung in a gentle, entrancing voice. For some reason, I can imagine this song being used in a One Tree Hill episode, which, mind you, had excellent music supervision.

I first came across Bearson when his remix of James Bay's "Let It Go" showed up on my Soundcloud feed (read my post about that here.) I immediately fell in love with it.

It gave off a vibe that was unique yet nicely familiar, relaxing yet somehow energized, a vibe that was difficult to explain. I have since then listened to more of his work and come to the following conclusion: the vibe can only be described as Bearson's signature sound. This track, Pink Medicine, is the first original song the Norwegian producer has released, and it perfectly captures the magic in his style. Its ambient atmosphere contrasted with a sharp, catchy sample create, as all of his other tracks do, a piece of pure electro-alternative bliss. Chill and let chill, my friends.
