I've been with my owner for over 10 years, and sadly I was confiscated when they were taken away to jail and now I have no one. The only person I knew, is gone. I've been in the shelter now for almost 2 months, and no one is interested in me. I am scared, sad, and lonely. I think she looks like a girl… maybe it’s the long, glowing hair, the seductive eyes, what appears to be a delicate frame or maybe the hint of Tortie coloring… When I slid my second stick under the sliding front, Ms. or Mr. Pawsby, leaned forward to smell my stick. She leaned forward & practically put her nose right on the stick. I am not nor have I ever been a “a cat whisperer” but that makes me think she is not completely if at all, feral. She is however, scared, uncomfortable & nervous. There was a lot of lip licking which is the same in cats as it is dogs…. Stress. I was stressing her, me & my sticks although she was curious about the stick. She is scared & not, outwardly friendly. She didn’t move from the cubby, didn’t want any affection from me & I’m sure, released a sigh of relief, once I left. Now she needs somewhere to go. She is not friendly enough to be adoptable & she can’t be TNR’d. Her only option is Rescue. The vet discovered a mass in his rectum & has given us until 5 pm to find rescue for him. We were able to get that time extended to 7:00 am tomorrow morning but they will not give us any more time than that as they say he is suffering. Rescues cannot help without foster homes… most are full to the brim, as there is never a shortage of shelter dogs in need. A selfless gift to a shelter dog is a temporary home, a place to rest & heal if injured, a place to learn tricks, new commands & receive guidance that many of these dogs never received, a place they can feel safe, rest their heads on a comfortable dog bed, and be away from the stress and anxiety from living in a kennel 24 hours a day, surrounded by crying, sadness, and loneliness. Many of these dogs are abandoned or discarded, as their owners never come to bring them home, especially those who are injured. These precious pups spend weeks or months lying on the concrete floors of a shelter, never knowing what it’s like to belong to family and feel loved. While offering a lifelong commitment to a dog may not be possible, offering a few months and partnering with a rescue to literally save a life is possible. Rescue organizations provide the supplies and medical care while you provide a safe, loving indoor environment for a dog temporarily. Please look at our videos - look into these dogs’ eyes. They need fosters. They need you. Please help one of the Moreno Valley shelter dogs in need by offering to foster. You can be the difference in a shelter dog’s life.
