this is technically canon but so many people write him as someone SUPER polite that i feel like atp it's become a headcanon

shoto todoroki is, let's say, underdeveloped socially. it is very obvious that he lacks manners and comes off awfully rude

it definitely causes people to stare at him blankly when he says something, because it could be so brutal but he said it completely blankly OR he says something super mean and actually meant what he said

either way, shoto is not really the type to apologize for his way of communicating or wording things, and he's definitely not going to be super apologetic or mindful to ask people if what he said was socially acceptable

if he is called out for some bullshit he says he'd definitely give an awkward apology

HOWEVER

i think this strictly applies to HIGHSCHOOL shoto (1st and 2nd year specifically) — shoto in his 3rd year & as a pro hero would be very polite and careful with what he says

(he's pr trained)

this still doesn't mean i think he'd ask if what he says was okay or apologize before every question he asks, he'd probably just be socially aware enough at that point to not have to apologize anymore

suna rintarou is semi popular, but the same cannot be said about you. loser somewhat mentally unstable (?) reader x suna rintarou.

"i don't care much about you, but i wouldn't mind it if you liked me too."

you stare at him, side eyeing him...suspicious. suna had been with you for around 9 months, and it has not been easy for either of you. while suna is not insanely popular in comparison to his twin friends, he is still popular. tall, athletic, pretty face — how could he be unpopular?

you sit down, legs on either side of suna, head in the crook of his neck. he is glued to his phone, the tv noises play in the back but neither of you actually hear it. it is really late, the air still frosty from winter, but it is thawing slowly. "hey rin, do you remember april of last year?" you ask, reminiscing on the start of your relationship.

he stares at you, he did not forget, especially since he was the one chasing after you. "yea, you skipped school for like a week and needed to catch up. for some reason you asked me."

your class is predominantly male, and they all are assholes, with notebooks that spawned from hell. even if you read their notes, there's no chance they're actually helpful. suna sat next to you in class last year, and his handwriting while not neat is still legible. quiet, somewhat responsible, and a not so intimidating demeanor made him approachable. there's this really embarrassing thing where you try to talk to someone and they don't hear you, therefore you get ignored — this could happen with any of your classmates, but perhaps it wouldn't happen with suna. you took your chance that last april, and it led to this.

you followed his instagram, and he saw your posts. you are way different online compared to at school, and it impressed suna immensely how much one person could conceal. while your hair color is dyed unnaturally everywhere you go, he never noticed previously what piercings you had because you took them off for school. you were (somewhat still are) the type of person to hide in the bathrooms during breaktimes, free periods, and lunchtimes. you talk to no one at school except teachers, and you're the type of kid the school counselor pulls out of class for random check ins. your reputation, if you had one, is anything but favorable or likable.

suna dragged you out of your shell, slowly and really persistently despite your protests. it started with small reels, then calling to talk at night since you never talked at school, to talking at school and hanging out at school, then finally hanging out outside of school too. having suna around was hard for you since it had been so long since you actually got close to anyone. it was somewhat disturbing; his presence. it was worse when rumors started flying — being the center of attention at this highschool is genuinely a nightmare. they would debate, and in the process degrade you as a human entirely. for a fairly attractive guy like suna it was not a big deal, but for you it was. highschool is cruel.

troubles did not end at school — you simply weren't in any position to be in a relationship. you liked him so much, and it could be detrimental to your mental health if anything happened in the relationship. you were in therapy, struggling with a few things here and there. suna's presence was both comforting and cruel. without him you would be all alone, but he also forced you into the spotlight. the whispers seemed so loud, and they were picking away at your imperfections, trying to find reasons you and him weren't suited for each other.

through it all, he stayed. he stayed when you cried, stressing about your peers staring at you. he stayed when you refused to eat lunch in the classroom because it highlighted your loneliness to everyone else. he stayed when you skipped school for weeks because you couldn't stand being around those people. he stayed.

a small smirk appears on suna's face, arrogant and attractive as ever. he kisses your forehead, then plants one on your lips. "i love you y/n. go to sleep, you're tired."

grateful, that's the word — you're so grateful he stayed even though you were so difficult.

kenma feels just a little bit bad that you failed your math test

11 pm

"i cannot BELIEVE i failed" "i sure can" "i'll touch you"

kenma hums in response, like what was he meant to say to that? you were staying over at his house again (despite his protest), and everytime you stay you guys stay up till at least 2 am just to banter. it's not like sleep was important for you nocturnal creatures.

honestly, it only slightly hurt your feelings that he was no comfort, especially since for once you were actually sad about failing. you guys were playing imessage games, and you stopped talking to him, much to his surprise.

"you good? are you mad that you're losing?" kenma asked, slightly snarky in his tone, slightly unsettled about how quiet you were.

"hey are you actually upset?" kenma said poking you in your shoulder to get your attention. you didn't budge, it felt embarrassing to be upset over something like this, but you were so you're not going to face him.

"are you on your period or something?" was maybe the worst thing he could say to you, and he realized that only after he said it. you turned to look at him with the dirtiest glare you could give, and your eyes slightly glassy because he did hurt your feelings.

he looked slightly shaken due to the fact that he could get smacked over the head at any point now. this one time however, it's actually deserved.

"whatever i don't care." you said to him and going back on your phone. the mood was lowkey dead at that point anyway.

you both get up and go to the kitchen, where he makes you instant ramen. you guys shared it because neither of you were THAT hungry. it tastes better since it was late, and cold outside.

there was only one small lamp on, giving off an orange hue to light up the living room and kitchen. wind was hitting against the windows, and there is faint audio coming from both your phones because you guys were scrolling. the empty bowl sat on the coffee table, and you rested your head on kenma's shoulder.

the room had a comfort that only exists during the fall.

you were falling asleep sitting there, and everything felt perfect.

the drowsiness caught up to you and kenma, and you fell asleep cuddled up. no need for apologies or goodnights, you both being present felt good enough.

guess which two idiots woke up late for school the next day?

being a transfer student who was weak in german made you wanna die, but luckily you had alexis ness to help you (he wants you so bad)

- alexis ness has cried once when teaching you grammar because of how slow you were

- also cried when you showed him an exam score you got (21%) because he tutored you 3 times a week for a month before the exam to prepare you

- regularly gives you snacks during your sessions, specifically cake and pastries

- if you complain and whine for long enough, he'll give you a phone break (he takes your phone at the start of your sessions to prevent distractions)

- lowkey was a total douchebag at first until you grew on him

- ALWAYS goes overtime because he likes spending time with you

- started by sitting across from you, but that distance closed over time (your knees touch now awww)

- some of these tutoring sessions would literally just be you and him gossiping for 1h30min (or a therapy session)

- stopped charging you after some time because you guys were "friends" (he wants you so bad it's not even funny)

- texts you things unrelated to tutoring a little too often (you guys just bicker the whole time)

kenma may be skinny, but he's a big douche.

it is late into the night when you receive a discord notification from kenma. it's a server but literally just for you, kuroo, and kenma to hang out in. "join vc minecraft." kenma texted.

1:30 am

what the hell could he want? it's fine, you would be lying if you said you planned to sleep at all. you join the vc and greet kenma and kuroo, "guys, i hope you're both aware we have school tomorrow."

"it's fine, there's no volleyball practice" kuroo states with much confidence. not really what you tried to imply but fine, whatever they want. you guys settle in a cherry blossom biome, as you always insist to stay there. kenma goes mining, kuroo starts a farm, and you build a house. your roles are perfectly divided for a sophisticated and effective server.

"wait shit guys a creeper is following me"

"that's bold coming from someone who never brushes their hair after they wake up."

it's a cold morning, spring is approaching slowly. the ice melted but in the wind, the freeze still lingers. the other two agree to stop at 7/11 for you to get breakfast. kenma pays for your food basically anytime you eat around him. it's cute. kinda. maybe he was scheming to hold that against you someday.

"thanks kenken!"

8:15 am

kenma walks you to your class before going to his own. he says good luck to you everyday simply because of how often you whined that school sucked. additionally, it may come from a meaner place in his cold and small heart, aka he was mocking you for having no friends in your own year. you sat in your seat and immediately started texting kenma.

"so then the motherfucker reminds him to collect the math homework! like a little bitch, i mean like this is why you have a bowl cut at 15 –" you pause, kenma hasn't looked up from his phone in a while. is he even listening?

"mhmm you were saying?" kenma says, looking up from his game (he lost), and he takes your lollipop out of your mouth.

it's been a few months since you'd seen him. you'd occasionally call and facetime, maintaining your relationship. you'd be lying if you said you didn't miss him, but now he's coming home. yet, there's an ache in your heart you never thought you'd feel seeing your boyfriend again.

you had been keeping up with bltv, watching everything, seeing how your boyfriend and his best friend was doing. the recent episode was horrible, like a horror movie that was genuinely traumatizing.

you approached his dorm, knocking hesitantly, not sure what to say to him. the door creaks open to a messy looking nagi, he had just gotten back.

"hi babe, i missed you", you said. he stares at you for a moment before pulling you into a really tight hug, not letting go. he pulls you into his dorm, putting away the flowers and gifts you brought him.

you sat on his bed, swallowing a lump in your throat, unsure of what to say in the moment. after all, he had put everything into that programme, and he was great. he sits next to you, holding your hand and fidgeting with your fingers. silence.

"i've missed you too." he finally mutters.

"you don't have to say anything sei." you said, patting his head.

"i know." he says.

and for the first time since you've started dating him, you saw a tear roll down his face. pure silence in the room, you couldn't find the right words to comfort him, and he had nothing else to say.

he laid down, one arm around your waist, one over his face. maybe he was ashamed, perhaps embarrassed, but most of all: regretful.

you guys stayed in bed for what felt like an eternity, not because you enjoyed it, no. it was because no one said anything, the room was so silent and tense you could hear a pin drop.
