Anybody remember the post that went around a while ago from @frsauemporium about Last Life as a fey AU? Yeah, I finally started writing that.
I have it planned as a series, and we're opening with Team BEST and some setting establishment.
When in Fairyland...
Getting lost wasnât the most unexpected thing to happen on a Team BEST hiking trip. But that mountain was nowhere on any of their maps of the area. Neither was the self-proclaimed wizard living on it who tried to sell them enchanted crystals and magic books. Where exactly have they ended up, why does everyone here seem to have a set of unwritten expectations for their interactions, and how can Tango prove that this is all Bdubsâs fault? Or Tango tries to figure out the rules for mortals in the faerie realms after a Team BEST hiking trip goes very far off track.
This installment was written as part of the MCYT Alphabet Challenge 2026, for the prompt X for xenial.

Last life inspired au where B.E.S.T and the Southlanders are a group of hikers who somehow got so lost they ended up in the faewilds.
The Fairy fort and Scottage are the spring fairy court, with Lizzie as queen.
Scar and Joel are both humans who also got lost in the faewilds. Scar traded his memories to a fairy (believed to be Big B) for magic and lives as a wizard and friend to the fae.
Joel fucked around with Queen Lizzie and went insane. Heâs been given the title âmad kingâ (because yes Lizzie liked Joel after he went batshit. Thatâs HER little freak)
The southlanders and B.E.S.T. Now must navigate their way out of the faewilds with only a childrenâs book to use as a guide. (Their asses are getting cursed 15 minutes in)

Soo, empires s1 hu?
Au where after Scottâs Simple Life win, the watchers decide to put all current winners into âretirementâ so new players can be added and the slate can be wiped clean.
It should be noted that no one was told about this (why would they? Its not like they could fight it.) So one day Grian, Scott, Pearl, Scar, Cleo, and Joel were there, and the next they weren't.
And of course they couldn't have the winners interfering with future games or other players, so they erased everything save for their names and a few other details, then added a few fake memories so they wouldn't panic as much.
They dropped the winners off in civilization with new memories, a house, and money. All ready to go! What could go wrong?
As it turns out, separating trauma-bonded individuals has consequences, especially since some of them were married or otherwise close. Lizzie freaks out after losing Joel as well as Etho and Bdubs get worried when Cleo and Scar vanish.
The introduction of new players in the winnerâs places (Sausage, Shubble, False, Fwhip, Cub, Zed and Docm) Does not help in the slightest, in fact it makes things worse (WHO THE HELL THOUGHT DOCM WOULD BE A GOOD ADDITION?!)
Eventually it all comes to a head when Lizzie and Jimmy spot Scar, Scott, and Joel in a market. They immediately run over with a multitude of questions about where they've been and why they haven't been trying to find them.
Joel, Scott, and Scar are confused, these strangers know their names, but they have to have the wrong people. The woman with pink hair is borderline hysterical over Joel, claiming that she and Joel are married.
When Scar asks the pair who they are, Lizzie looks as if sheâs been stabbed while Jimmy is pleading for them to stop joking around. Scott (who had already contacted the others) tried to De-escalate the situation while pushing Scarâs wheelchair toward where Pearl and Cleo were waiting.
In the end Jimmy and Lizzie are left heartbroken while Joel, Scott, and Scar are confused. Why did those people know them? Why were they so upset? Do they have something to do with their own spotty memores?

I had the thought that if empires was botw, Xornoth would be ganon, which means Scott would be Zelda, and then I had the realisation. The fate of Hyrule rests in the pathetic cod man's hands. Yippee ig?

Au where by all accounts, Jimmy is a filthy traitor.
He was just so tired of the damn canary curse that the watchers placed on him. So tired of the teasing and the agonizing pain.
So much so to the point where yeah, he did pray to the watchers, and yeah, he did stop aiding the listeners and join the watchers, who could blame him?
Except now Martyn refuses to meet his gaze, and tries his best to completely avoid him. The day after Jummy had prayed to the watchers Martyn had screamed and cried, because Jimmy has condemned him.
He knows that Jimmy has basically sold him out, because with Jimmy no longer a threat, Martyn is the only resistance from any of the lifers, which means all efforts are strictly focused on him.
Its a death sentence.
So as Jimmy watches Martyn unfairly lose his last life to a creeper during Wild life, all he can think about is how he is a dirty fucking traitor.
Suffering and Different beast from EPIC: the musical but itâs the Lim life crew as smugglers.
Captain Scott and First mate Martyn lean against the rail of the deck. Scott has wax in his ears, Martyn doesnât. Below them sit Martynâs wife and Scottâs brother, both pleading for the men to join them in the water.
Martynâs indulging them, promising to join them soon, they just need to give a little information about the way to the closest port. Scott pretends to do the same, despite not hearing a thing. As soon as Martyn has what he needs, he leans forward, letting his wife start to pull him overboard. Scott pulls him back and pulls out a knife, his expression turning threatening. He and Martyn knew they were sirens from the start, after all Netty is frightened by deep water and Xornoth has been dead for years.
Meanwhile their crew is working tirelessly behind them, pulling up other sirens that look like friends and loved ones. The captain gives the order to kill them, that way no one else will suffer at the hands of these beasts.
Itâs not easy. Zedalph trying to talk down Impulse, Skizz, tango, and Etho, Lizzie and Mumbo in tears, pleading for mercy, Ren tries to appeal to BigB because theyâre soulmates arenât they?
In the end, the sirens are taken care of. Martynâs still a little loopy from their song, but he will definitely be bragging about how he heard a sirenâs song but didnât die for a long time. The rest of the crew is rattled from having to kill what appeared their loved ones, all the more reason to get to port and see their loved ones again.
Au where Grian, Martyn, and Jimmy are shapeshifters on the run from the watchers.
One day, Jimmy is separated from Martyn and Grian and is forced to flee down an alleyway and blend in as a cat. The Watcher that was hunting him down almost has him, but is stopped by a blaze named Tango and an elf named Scott, newlyweds. The husbands kick the Watcherâs trash and take Jimmy home to clean him up.
Jimmy, still in the form of a cat, is happy to stay for the night, then ditch the couple in the morning. Everything is going smoothly untill Tango mentions âadoptionâ and Scott places an enchanted collar on Jimmy. The collar is supposed to ward off bad magic and keep curses and spells at bay.
But it also neutralizes Jimmyâs shapeshifting abilities.
So now heâs stuck as this coupleâs housecat until he figures out how to escape. Meanwhile, Grian and Martyn are freaking out because their friend is missing and the Watchers are still hot on their trail.
Eventually Grian and Martyn find Jimmy, and being the good friends they are, decide to mess with him and his new owners by turning into large dogs and separate Jimmy from Tango and Scott.
Once alone, Jimmy explains his predicament. After Martyn and Grian have teased him adequately, they begin to help him take the collar off.
Unfortunately Tango finds them, Martyn and Grian had to quickly leave with singed fur. Jimmy is taken home and given a bath (embarrassing) and lots of cuddles (acceptable)
The weeks pass as Jimmy has to ballence pretending to be a housecat with evading the watchers that keep showing up and plotting his escape. Tango and Scott begin to grow on him though, the way that Tango talks to Jimmy about what hes doing when tinkering with redstone to the fact that Scott laughs when he lets Jimmy curl up in the warm laundry.
It was the safest heâd ever felt, sure being on the run with his two best friends was fun, but when was the last time he was confident that he would sleep in a warm bed, or when others handled problems instead of him?
Maybe when the Watcher problem finally went away, heâd be able to have a life like this

Life series but its just the EVO crew playing DnD.
Grian is the dm and Big B, Jimmy, Martyn, and Pearl are the players. Everyone else is an NPC Grian came up with.
Maybe Jimmy and Pearl are also part of another DnD group run by Fwhip (cough, empires) and Jimmy bribes him to add Scott and Joel, his favorite NPCs from Grianâs game.

There's two brothers who ignore the warnings about mt ebbotâs curse and play on itsâs mountainside.
Martyn, the elder brother, was cocky and brave. He often challenged himself and his younger brother to go higher up the mountain. One day he was playing in a cave with his brother when he tripped and fell down into the underground, leaving his younger brother crying for their parents.
While underground, he encounters the Ruins caretaker, who is kind and all- but Martyn really wants to get back to his family. The caretaker, Lizzie, caves and lets him leave the ruins.
Its too bad that his toy boxing gloves did nothing against the dog guards, who eagerly fetched his soul for their king.

Many years later, when that younger brother, Jimmy, as all grown up, he decided to actually find out what happened to his brother. He takes a gun for protection and willingly enters Ebbot.
He's scared, and threatens action if anyone tries to attack. (Jimmy would never have the ability to pull the trigger though, hes too kind to kill these seemingly innocent monsters)
He makes it to the capital with the goal of asking the king about his brother. Unfortunately one of the kingâs guards attacks and poisons him. King Joel stops the guard from ending the manâs life. Despite being the ruthless mountain king, he takes Jimmy to his home. The poisoning is fatal, so Joel can only make the manâs last days comfortable.
At least Jimmy is with his brother now.

Thinking about a coworker of Jimmyâs getting confused when he doesn't come into work. Grian knows that Jimmy had just taken a week long break for âfamily thingsâ up on Mt Ebbot. Grian assumes he needed another day or so off for whatever he was doing.
A month passes and now Grian is really worried, Jimmys been pronounced missing. The authorities are stumped, so Grian takes matters into his own hands and travels to Mt ebbot to see whats going on.
He falls down, landing in a bed of soft flowers. Strange, flowers donât usually grow in caves like this⊠say, that one is talking. He calls himself Mumbo? Interesting.
(first part)
Flower husbands au (platonic, romantic, it applies to any way you ship them) where Scott wakes up in a parallel universe where everyoneâs roles are swapped around. In this universe he discovers that he is now the one with the canary curse, with Jimmy taking his role.
This universeâs watcher, Martyn, explains that in order to get back to his own universe, he must relive the life series through Jimmyâs point of view.
He learns the hard way that this worldâs Jimmy is just as cold toward him as he is towards his own Jimmy, and that the canary curse is way worse than just dying first.
The only thing Scott knows is that if he ever escapes, he is going to treat Jimmy right.

I would like to think that the swap Scott is with the OG lifers and they are all like âoh god Scott whats happened to you?â
Swap Scott is just as scared/confused because no one is acting like themselves??? He no longer has the canary curse??? JIMMY HAS THE CURSE????
