canon is what happens in the text. e.g. merlin tries to poison morgana

a headcanon is a fact that you have personally made up as an elaboration of canon. it is your invention. e.g. i think morgana and gwen had a teenage lesbian situationship before the events of canon. or, i think modern morgana would love evanesence.

an interpretation is how one reads the existing text. it is not an invented fact nor is it a headcanon, it is a reading. e.g. i think merlin tries to poison morgana out of misplaced self-hatred. or, i think that one line was delivered with suppressed malice and shows a nuanced relationship.

fanon is the general fandom’s accepted headcanons and interpretations that elaborate or recontextualize canon. e.g. merlin is a badass waif and morgana is a bitch.

these are all different words with different meanings.

I work with kids and sometimes we have to do safety lessons with them about like, not telling strangers on the internet your home address or something. And sometimes the kids wont understand why, so you have to impart upon them that, well, some adults want to hurt children. And thats kind of difficult to do, because you have to beat around the bush, both because you dont want to scare them (while still making them understand how serious it is) and because you might lose your job if you explain it too straight forward.

Luckily, for some reason, the villain of one of the most popular franchises with children for the last 10 years happens to be a serial child murderer. So when a kid asks why they shouldnt trust strangers, instead of hand wringing and humhawing my answer out, I can just say "we dont always know when a strange adult has good intentions with children, or when they are William Afton."

on the topic of disabled characters, though, i think a LOT of artists give characters mobility aids that their character wouldn't actually benefit from using.

i'm sort of having a mild brain fog moment rn so i can't fully articulate what i'm on about, but i think a lot of able-bodied artists view things like canes and crutches as interchangeable. and they often don't know enough about the wide range of mobility aids to make an informed decision about what their character might actually use based on their disability

i also think that aids like walkers and rollators are sort of viewed as "cringe" on some level, and many people view them to be "just for old people," so many artists will opt for giving a character who has full-body pain and fatigue a cane (which, in many cases, can potentially WORSEN full-body pain) instead. and a lot of people don't realize that most wheelchair users are able to walk, so they don't consider it an option for characters with chronic pain

idk it's kind of frustrating. i've genuinely never, ever seen a character that uses a rollator before. not once. i cannot name a single one. i know of multiple ocs who are described to have full-body pain, dizziness, and fatigue that are drawn as cane users and are never shown with wheelchairs or walkers, though

it's also sort of sad? i've been diagnosed since i was twelve years old, and i only heard of rollators LAST YEAR. and that was only because i saw one irl and immediately asked what it was. i wonder how many disabled people out there don't even know it's an option solely because they're completely underrepresented online and in media

if you're a creative with a disabled oc, PLEASEEE check out this link. it's a very nice and detailed guide for telling which mobility aids suit someone's needs best. it's incredibly important to make the right choice for your character! mobility aids tell you a LOT about someone's lived experience. picking the right one will communicate to your audience #1 what your character goes through #2 that you UNDERSTAND what your character goes through!

Just watched Impulse's vod from when GIGS played Shift at Midnight and Grian so tapped in to his Tokyo Soul self when he was put in charge of the gun.

I need it animated and written in a fic in an angsty way PLEASE. (I will write some too but I NEED PPL ON THIS W ME)

Anyway, when Impulse said "Grian you're a soldier" my first thought was "Nah, he just had access to guns in high school where everyone was a psychopath" :D

During early Season 1, GenerikB called the shots on who was added, and to the rest of the Hermits, new people would just pop onto the server with no consultation with the others

There was no structure of organization other than the fact that GB was in charge because it was his server, and everyone was fine with this

Eventually, GB left to focus on Mindcrack, and the server kinda ran on its own for a while, with people doing whatever they wanted on the server and making videos without any larger plans for the future

Eventually, there had been so many updates to Minecraft that some people wanted to start over with a new world with new people, since there had already been some hermits that had gone inactive

It was very difficult for the group to make decisions because there was no final word on any topics, even though there was a general consensus on a seed and potential new people to join.

Enter Joe "Group organizational structures is my passion" Hills

PS: Joe highly recommends this essay on the importance of group organization if you want to do ANY word as a group

THE DAY BEFORE they had agreed to record the first day of the server, they were STILL humming and hawing over the seed and new hermits

so Joe says "howdy y'all, here's what I'm going to do: I'm staging a coup, I'm going to decide that we will go with this seed that people generally agreed with, and we're going to add these two people that people generally agreed with. If ANYONE wants to disagree and do something different, feel free to step up! I will gladly give them the decision making power!"

crickets

Joe says "someone get in contact with Mumbo, I'll take care of Cleo, we get them sorted out, get the seed set up, we're recording tomorrow"

still crickets, but now with nodding

They recorded Season 2 the next day, with two VERY confused and new Hermits named Mumbo and Cleo, who found out potentially earlier that day they were joining the server

And the rest, as they say, is Hermit History.
