written for fruits basket mondays summer 2024 week 13: decades later. it ended up more like half a decade later mostly because i couldn’t justify putting off the kyoru wedding any longer
summary:
“You don’t even really have to talk to anyone,” Yuki is saying, fixing his hair in the mirror again. “No, that would be weird if you didn’t talk—you should only talk to a few specific people.”
Kakeru scoffs. “You act like I’m gonna insult someone’s mother or mortally offend your ancestors. I can be civil, you know.”
or: Six years after high school graduation, Tohru and Kyo finally get married. Kakeru tags along as Yuki's plus-one. Reunions, bonding, and eye-opening revelations ensue.

summary:
Shigure had sounded serious. A little bit regretful. And then he’d asked Ayame to go to their parents’ house and collect some of Yuki’s things, if he wouldn’t mind, like clothes and textbooks and his extra inhaler and such.
Ayame had said: okay. Shigure sounded surprised, like maybe he didn’t actually expect Ayame to agree to help, but Ayame said, again: okay. I’ll do it. I’ll do it tomorrow, in fact.

So, that Saturday morning, Kaibara Municipal High’s student council packed into two cars—Kimi also has her license, and had in fact gotten it before Kakeru even had the thought—and made the hour and a half trip to the Sohma-owned campgrounds outside of the city to celebrate the third years’ upcoming graduation.
Yuki has spent most of that journey wishing he had caught a ride with Kimi instead.Â
