In light of this being articulated, the fact that American schools have spent the past couple decades not teaching phonics, using programmed-to-be-idiotproof Chromebooks as a primary teaching aid, and promoting people the next grade up rather than addressing gaps in understanding, have stricken me with a copious amount of existential dread.

And the AI that students are using to do their homework and write their papers for them is just a mountain of bandaids slapped on top of who knows what sort of horrors.
