“Why didn’t you come to me?  Why didn’t anyone tell me?”

“ DO NOT blame the dead and their truth , ” a heavy gaze meets his with a certain solemnity that only comes with hardened age  , “ you were the last ; and now , the first—–—– ”

“    thank   you   for   coming   to   our   aid   so   swiftly ,    ”       said   with   a   rueful   little   smile   as   the   212th’s   medic   leans   over   him  ,    plastering   a   bacta   patch   to   the   gash   at   his   cheek.      he   had   not   been   fortunate   enough   to   escape   the   medics   this   time   around.       “    i   am   not   sure   how   much   longer   we   could’ve   held   out   without   you.    ”

“ it’s fortunate there were no delays , ” when word came through of the 212th’s faltering line , he had done everything he could to get his men readied and prepped quickly. There were no telling how heavy the losses and damage were going to be , and as he lays a gentled hand upon Obi-Wan’s shoulder , he’s just grateful his men were able to be of any aid , “ Go, ” he urges , “ rest up along with your men. I will take care of clean up and the Council , if need be. ”

𝐈𝐓'𝐒 𝐀 𝐖𝐄𝐋𝐋 𝐏𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐎𝐖  for  a  jedi,  she  can’t  help  but  think  as  sharp  features  alight  with  pleased  surprise,  lacks  the  stiffness  she  normally  associates  with  most  of  his  order  around  politicians.  “your  kind  words  are  both  noted  and  appreciated,  master  fisto,”  comes  amused  reply, delicate  fingers  briefly  splaying  out  over  her  heart. pale  gaze  follows  his  and  she  suspects  he  too   harbors  some  of  the  disdain  she  possesses,  albeit  more  muted. 

lips  purse  together  to  mask  a  grin  at  his  admittance,  though  sentiment  is  mirrored  with  a  knowing  nod  of  her  head.  “i’d  be  honored,”  satine  extends  a  slender  hand  towards  him,  the  other  gracefully  gesturing  towards  the  main  chamber,  “i’m  always  eager  to  be  amongst  those  whom  i  know  i  can  trust  on  coruscant.” 

“were  she  here  today,  i’d  introduce  you  to  senator  amidala,  if  you’ve  not  had  the  chance  to  meet  her  yet.  while  our  views  on  this  conflict  unfortunately  do  not  align  as  closely  as  we  might  wish,  there  can  be  no  doubt  she’s  a  great  force  for  good  within  your  republic,”  voice  softens  with  a  clear  affection,  an  affection  reserved all  but  solely  for  the  former  queen  before  words  grow  quieter  as  she  leans  in  towards  him,  “i  would  warn  you,  master  fisto,  that  to  be  seen  speaking  with  me  might  rile  some  of  our  more…passionate   senators.  i  would  not  wish  for  you  to  find  yourself  at  the  receiving  end  of  glares,  if  that  is  of  concern.” 

The offered , kind hand is taken in an equally grateful hold. The graceful movement almost dwarfed by his much larger, less sure guidance into the crook of his robed elbow where he fears , irrationally , it to be lost within the folds of his loose robe if not careful. A silly notion to follow an even more bizarre moment in the wake of an importune day out of the temple as he spies the unfortunate main chamber. Already , it is being filled by dozens upon dozens of dour or sure-like individuals.

“ I have only briefly met Senator Amidala. ” he admits ruefully. A certain warmth adorning cool cheeks as he meets her gaze once again. The ease of being on even footing soothing the tension in his shoulders as he begins their trek toward the chamber, “ A kind soul. She has always been nothing but courteous to the Jedi, and I thank her for that. It is … not a popular opinion , as of late. ” 

It’s a cool admittance. One that causes him to chuckle blandly, and his smile to dip a fraction of its usual brightness. “ I feel I should be warning you the same , your highness , for many Senators have grown to dislike the Jedi, as well. ” His chuckling grows into a smothered snort as he muses absently , “ We will make quite a pair , do you not agree? It’ll cause a bit of a stir , I think. But that’s what makes attending these things fun. ”

“ I  am  no  longer  welcome  here,  I  think. ”    The  confession  is  offered  idly,  but  the  smile  on  their  face  fails  to  reach  the  dark  circles  under their  eyes.    It  is  getting  harder  and  harder  for  them  to  disguise  the  depth  of  their  anger  and  grief  as  simple  frustration.    “ The  Council  barely  tolerates  my  presence  these  days –    they  call  me  a  warmonger ! !    I  have  yet  to  determine  if  it  is  because  they  do  not  listen  when  I  speak  or  because  they  cannot  understand  my  words  when  I  say  them. ”

It  is  quiet  here.    The  Revanchist  has  been  spread  thin  as  of  late,  stretched  across  the  galaxy  in  places  choked  with  ash  and  full  of  terrible,  cacophonous  noise.    To  return  to  Coruscant  is  to  step  into  a  dream,  a  surreal  but  removed  experience.    Here  the  horizon  glitters,  unblemished,  and  the  halls  of  the  Temple  are  still  and  sacred.    There  is  no  war  here.    Not  yet.    The  transition  is  jarring  in  a  way  they  hadn’t  anticipated,  and  they  find  themself  a  stranger  in  their  own  home.    Even  the  presence  of  a  fellow  jedi  offers  little  comfort,  only  a  pressing  anxiety  that  compels  them  to  speak.

“ War  is  coming, ”    They  tell  Fisto,  gaze  hard  but  hands  open.    “ For  some,  it  is  already  here.    Have  you  seen  the  reports  from  the  Republic’s  borders  in  the  Outer  Rim ?    The  Mandalorians  are  growing  in  number  and  scope.    They’ve  started  cutting  into  Hutt  space.    It’s  only  a  matter  of  time  before  they  turn  their  attention  to  the  Republic  in  a  more  organized  fashion.    If  we  wait  to  act,  it  will  be  too  late !  ”

“ The Council’s wisdom comes from a price paid dearly, ” he rebukes quietly, though without any real admonishment beyond a gentle concern. The worn and tired state of the Revanchist a far more cause for concern than the thoughts of a skeptical Council , however , Kit knows it would err on the tasteless to advise rest. “ Perhaps we are not healed enough for another war. ”

The two of them are different , Kit thinks , but he understands their plight —–—–their need to help. To be more than a simple Jedi Knight who waves their lightsaber around and banishes the ne’er-do-wells. It is why he stays and listens when so many older Knights like himself often scoff and scorn their budding crusade. He feels a certain kinship from his fellow Jedi ; enough so , to indulge in the musings and recruitment of what the Council has nearly declared heresy.  

“ I hear you , my friend , ” he says with a kind, pained smile , “ I hear what you are saying. I do not disagree with you. There must be something done. Maybe it is to call for arms or to offer aid of some other kind , but —–—– ” he shrugs helplessly here , however , “ I do not know why you come to me. I am no more a warrior than Master Vrook a young initiate. ”

“ AN AUTOGRAPH ? ” he can’t decide whether he's more startled or flattered. never before has someone asked for his attention in such a way —–—– no less his written name. there’s a certain embarrassment as well ; though that , perhaps , is from the knowledge of his atrocious handwriting. “ it is not worth much ... and I certainly haven’t done anything to attain such kindness from you , young one. ”

“ IT HUMBLES ME , CHANCELLOR , ” an inclination of the head that causes tentacles to brush over his shoulder. it’s spoken with kindness , his usual gentle disposition infamous from his visage —–—– but there is a certain falsehood. his bones are weary and tired from weeks of hopping through hypertravel lane to planet to battle. the grimace he hides with an expert smile only leaks a touch as he offers , “ I will not find ease nor rest until you are safe once more, I swear to you. ”
