after getting out of bed, teddy made his way over to the jacket of the suit he was wearing when he walked in. he’d been carrying the little black box with him everyday, trying to work up the nerve. teddy grabbed the box, not bothering to conceal it, and crawled back in bed beside her. “no, everything’s perfect. you’re perfect.” teddy assured her, opening up the box. “and i want things to stay perfect, and that’s only ever gonna be possible with you.” theodore didn’t think a big speech was necessary. he loved her, she loved him. it was only time they made it official. “mercer valentine, will you marry me?”
the moment that was unfolding before mercer’s eyes was one that she would remember for years to come, one that she would play over and over in her head before she told their kids. it was the last thing she was expecting and his question left her speechless for a few moments. they had stepped the requisite few steps before this one — dating, admitting that they loved each other. but none of that mattered to her. he was the only person she wanted to spend her life with and she knew that with complete certainty. “yes!” the word was almost lost through a mixture of tears and the kisses being pressed to his lips as she propelled herself towards him, pushing him back onto the bed.
