Blackwater Dive

2024, hand bleached and dyed denim, cotton batting and thread

inspired by blackwater photography of plankton! this was my first time layering bleach painting. All the silhouettes were painted with bleaching gel, loosely tie dyed, and then bleached again to make the highlights. I quilted the piece using my free motion foot to outline each individual animal and tacked down the rest of the quilt with small satin stitches that remind me of marine snow. I dyed bias tape to match. super happy with this one and excited to show it in a gallery setting soon!

ok my kneejerk reaction was to hate all the changes they made in the Homestuck pilot. I still feel like something's off with Dave's characterization but it's mainly how the voice actor reads the lines and the super crazy energetic animation. Like the lines THEMSELVES sound like Dave but a weird mix of everything else throws it out of wack (he also smiles too much.) ... I'm hoping the pacing improves if it gets picked up because my main issue is that they don't linger on any of the jokes long enough. I like Rose a lot in this but I also hope (with a longer runtime) she gets to be more pedantic and long winded. I genuinely really like seeing the strife fight fully animated and the visual slapstick gags with John. I'm actually kind of excited! Not fully content but excited!!! I'm going to go reread Homestuck now.... I've missed her dearly
