Another thought on Curtain - it’s just as well that David Suchet is an actor without compare, because Aidan McArdle came very close at points to stealing the show.

(That scene with the fake crying though - Moriarty can move over, frankly, because there never was a villain who did ‘changeable’ quite like this.)

Violet Hunter: the best character that nobody cares about

“The Copper Beeches” is probably my favorite of the original Holmes stories, at least those that I’ve read so far, which is admitedly a small percentage.  The adventure starts with one of my favorite lines from Holmes, “To the man who loves art for its own sake […] it is frequently in its least important and lowliest manifestations that the keenest pleasure is to be derived,”  a lovely quotable that sums up so much of Holmes’ character and is also a great little foreshadowing of the story to come.  There’s some entertaining tension between Holmes and Watson as they argue about the way Watson has been documenting Sherlock's analytic process.  Finally, with a dismissive scoff from Sherlock, Violet Hunter is introduced, one of my very favorite characters in all of the original canon.

Honestly, Violet Hunter is so, so under-rated - we have a thousand and one fics and versions and adaptations concentrating on Irene Adler, but why is there not enough about this badass lady?

Genuinely one of the better season finales (which made me immediately paranoid that they did it in this neat way in case the show was not going to be renewed) - the Brackenreid character growth re: Watts was a kind of redemption for the guy he was in S1e04, and at every turn they could have taken the cheaper route but didn't...

I feel like if Julia Ogden had any close female friends, or if Ruby had been around, she would have gotten a good hard shake the moment she started making heart eyes at Dixon, and she’d have snapped out of it right there and then. Instead, huge chunks of the fandom ended up placing bulk orders for fainting couches because she nearly went too far.

Justice for Detective Scott 2k20

It’s nice that Inspector Brackenreid confesses to feeling guilty about Detective Scott in the season finale (I’m not even being sarcastic - this represents some growth for his character compared to the first season, where the episode concentrating on gay men was painful to watch) but seriously, where is the justice for him, at least have the writers put in a line about how he joins the Pinkerton agency or something

Detective Watts is referring to Jack Walker, here, right?

Crabtree knows about the two of them being together by this point in the series, so when Watts asks for an autograph, is he asking on Jack’s behalf?

Because the idea of the two of them reading Crabtree’s book is so hecking cute....
