Schmendrick came forward, his face cold and wet, but his voice level. “I turned you into a human being to save you from the Red Bull. There was nothing else I could do. I will turn you to yourself again, as soon as I can.”
The girl began to touch her face timidly, recoiling from the feel of her own features. Her curled fingers brushed the mark on her forehead, and she closed her eyes and gave a thin, stabbing howl of loss and weariness and utter despair.
“What have you done to me?” she cried. “I will die here!” She tore at the smooth body, and blood followed her fingers. “I will die here! I will die!” Yet there was no fear in her face, though it ramped in her voice, in her hands and feet, in the white hair that fell down over her new body. Her face remained quiet and untroubled.
I remember watching this movie for the first time - it seemed to be so cheesy.. ok,ok.. it was^^ Now it brings me back memories and it seemed so obvious to paint the main character:)
The opening page of issue #3 of the six issue comic version of The Last Unicorn. It opens with the deliciously foreshadowy tale of Schmendrick’s mentor, Nikos, having once turned a Unicorn into a mortal man.
Suddenly, the astonished hunters were faced with a young man bearing a sword of a twisted, tapering design. He killed them all, and trampled the bodies when the men were dead.
I really loved the mention that the Unicorn trampled the men, even though his body was human and feet soft flesh rather than cloven hooves. It serves as the vital reminder that regardless of form, he was a Unicorn still – in his mind, in his heart, in his instincts, in all the ways that mattered – he was still the immortal creature carved from moon and starlight
(Ugh, I’m so sorry for barely even posting lately, please accept my apology with this post, thank you)

“Then why do the leaves never fall here? Or the snow? Why is it always spring here? I tell you there is one unicorn left in the world, and as long as it lives in this forest we’ll find no game to hunt here. […] Stay where you are, poor beast! This is no world for you. Stay in your forest and keep your trees green and your friends protected. And good luck to you, for you are the last. ”

Sketch a day 020
It’s been a ridiculously busy day but I managed to find time for a quick sketch. The Last Unicorn was pretty much my entire childhood.

The unicorn lived in a lilac wood and she lived all alone. She was very old, though she did not know it, and she was no longer the careless color of sea foam, but rather the color of snow falling on a moonlit night. But her eyes were still clear and unwearied, and she still moved like a shadow on the sea.
Another piece for class. This time the unicorn from The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. I chose it for the movie, but tried going by the book. I also took huge inspiration from Mary Blair’s amazing concept art for disney. Maybe later I’ll complete the Harpy as a companion piece.
I decided that my first tattoo would be of my favorite book of all time, The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle.
And it seems that all is dying and would leave the world to mourn…
These have been strange mourning days for me… and suddenly I found myself recording this almost improvised, spontaneous recording (just me, harp, low whistle and some guitar (I’m not good at guitar, I’m still learning). The song is from the movie “The Last Unicorn” (1982) based in an even superior novel by Peter. S. Beagle. Fan-tribute cover of one of my favourite animated movies “The Last Unicorn” (1982) based in the book by Peter. S. Beagle. The original song was performed by “America” and composed by Jimmy Webb the original is so lush, symphonic and pretty, please be sure to check it out, as well as this rare lovely movie. This is an almost improvised humble tempo-free spontaneous version as a fan with me on harp, guitar, low whistle and vocals.
