Guantanamo has housed up to 660 terrorists. Imagine 660 gangbangers serving an automatic 10 years at Gangtanamo, so the rest of us can start going to malls, street parties and barbecues again. Gangtanamo could even become a tourist trap. We’ll divide the facility into zones, like the Toronto Zoo. There’ll be a Crips zone, a Bloods pavilion, a Galloway Boys exhibit, a Jamestown Crew enclosure and so forth. The greater implications of this burka-and-booze story is that it could happen anywhere. Personally, I await with interest when the first burka-clad gang of robbers hits a bank, mindful of the Bill Murray movie Quick Change where the bank robbers were dressed as clowns to pull the job. Funny, but effective. The burka is an ideal disguise in our country because we are so sensitized to pretending it’s normal that we are reluctant to cause a scene by asking questions.

What Toews is doing is called due diligence, and the last thing Canada needs is a terrorist rock star returning to our country to preach radical Islam jihad, or to lead the aimless into becoming home-grown haters of the West. At mid-week, federal Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan did what should have been done years ago, and placed the Attawapiskat First Nations reserve under "third-party management." But, what he didn't do, and what he should have done, was put all reserves on notice. For years, Canadians have rightfully been asking how billions of taxpayer dollars earmarked for reserves end up going down the toilet and coming out in a septic tank like northern Ontario's Attawapiskat.

While taxpaying Canadians continue to be frustrated by governments pouring billions into reserves that will never be sustainable, more than half of our nation's 1.2 million aboriginals have already gapped it to the city. If a workable strategy is to be developed to deal with First Nations issues, it must include shutting down reserves that have no hope of being self-sufficient. This includes reserves far removed from civilization where traditional hunting and fishing are no longer possible, and where something as basic as a head of lettuce is cost prohibitive.

The Canadian government has not yet provided a cent to the proposed memorial in Ottawa for the victims of communism. Not a cent, though millions of Canadians came here fleeing from Communist regimes. But the government of Canada found $2.5 million to build a sparkling new museum in Tony Clement’s riding, dedicated to the Communist sympathizer, Norman Bethune. Bethune was such a communist extremist he literally left Canada twice to go to war with Communists, once in Spain, then in China, where he met up with Mao Zedong. Mao is the worst mass murderer in world history, killing more than Adolf Hitler or Josef Stalin. Combined. That’s who Bethune dedicated his life to. And that’s who the government of Canada spent $2.5 million building a shrine to.
