Hello Fuckyeahtx, does the mod/owner of the blog have a favorite historical monument? Or just anything else that you can only visit in Texas?

Tie between NASA- Houston is Space City after all, and the Missions in San Antonio. But there's also Big Bend which encompasses most of the dip on the left and holds a ton of history from Judge Roy Bean to the natural wonders of the land and the ability to walk straight into Mexico across a stream known as the Rio Grande without anyone noticing. Fly out to Lubbock and drive east thru 6666 ranch and eat at every truck stop along the way for true Texas from Chicken Fried Steak to enchiladas. Go to Lockhart for barbecue and Kreuz market for sausages based on our central Texas German and Czech immigrant techniques. Drink some Shiner for the same reason but especially the Prickly Pear because that's one of your cactus treats. Hit the Valley for the best grapefruit of your life. It's like five states and five countries all in one.

Big Bend National Park is about to be destroyed.

I know everything is burning right now. There is every issue to worry about. Well, this week the flames have also come for my home.

Big Bend is the most pristine desert we have in the US. It is home to more fauna and flora than Yellowstone. It has the darkest skies in the US. And just two weeks ago, the DHS decided to waive 28 laws to start constructing a border wall through it.

DHS has decided all of those laws no longer apply to the Rio Grande corridor through Big Bend National Park.

It will devastate ecosystems. Ruin the skies. And with the ecosystem and skies ruined, it will ruin the livelihoods of the people living there, and the $54 million revenue generated annually by Big Bend tourism.

It won't stop border crossings because no one crosses the border at Big Bend. What it will do is hurt all of us.

IDK how many people care about dead malls, but that last post about the Collin Creek mall really made me sad. Look at these two pictures:

The top one is from when the mall opened in 1981, the second one is from 2018 (it closed a year later). I think these pictures are both showing the Dillard’s mall entrance, but from different angles.

The 2018 picture represents how the mall more or less always looked since I started going there in 2004, except without people or stores. I never knew there were indoor waterways and fountains. Look at the seating area/playground in the 2018 picture — it’s built over where the waterway used to be. Look at the weirdly protruding concourses on the second story that used to be balconies.

The 1981 mall would have been a beautiful place to go, especially in summer when it’s too hot to spend time outside in Texas. You could walk along the waterway or sit at the tables and have a gorgeous view. It’s almost like a park. I didn’t even recognize the mall when I saw those photos, because all I ever knew was the bland white building that it became.

I don’t know what the moral of the story is here, because I’m sure those waterways were wasteful and expensive to maintain, and there were almost certainly other factors in the mall’s decline besides the visual downgrade. I just wish I could have seen it in its heyday.

When I was a little toddler, back during the 90s, my mom used to take me there all the time. She'd always been big into fashion n beauty, so that was a given. But for me, the wonder was entirely in how lush and beautiful that mall was. I loved that the main thoroughfare was full of water, and my very favorite thing to do was to ride the big glass elevator from upstairs down to the ground floor, cause they had built it jutting into the big central water fountain, flush to the very edge on every side except the elevator door, and I loved gettin gently set down into that beautiful aquamarine blue, over and over again. I'd beg my mom to go just one more time every time we visited, as if it were a miniature water ride, and she'd only indulge me a couple times before we were bein a nuisance, I guess. We ended up movin away, and it was a few years before I moved back. The last time I revisited that mall, they had already drained and paved over the beautiful fountains and tore out most of the lush greenery. It was honestly heartbreaking.

I'm one of Meagan Morris' partners and there's a couple things we've been trying to do about her shitty lawyer:

It's possible, but difficult, to file a complaint against a public defender for being openly hostile or unprofessional in treating their defendant, in order to request a new public defender from the county. Replies like the one he gave above are great evidence that he should not be assigned to someone that he's openly bigoted against. (I've got multiple emails he sent to me that are similar in tone, so I'm not surprised he's sending hateful emails instead of doing his job as a lawyer)

similarly, any emails like this can go into a complaint to the Texas state bar, which we plan to file as well. Luttrell has been reprimanded before for not representing his clients when he was legally required to, so any formal complaints will help.

the fundraiser OP linked is intended for hiring legal defenses for Meagan and the other protestors who were arrested, if we have enough we could hire a competent lawyer and no longer have her fate in the hands of a lazy bigot who still hasn't met her in person.

Just to note, that the legal definition of libel/defamation in Texas is a written false statement to a third party that defames the plaintiff and has a requisite defree of fault regarding the statement's truth, and caused damages.
