Someone needs to make a masterpost of fucked up Neopets facts because literally every time I reminisce about that game I remember something ridiculous such as

• The prize wheel that would take literal hours to spin and would occassionaly reward you with a screamer

• Neopets having petpets and the petpets having petpetpets which were just parasites

• The laboratory ray that was extremely fucking expensive to use having a chance of turning petpets into piles of ash

• A random chance for the game to just steal neopoints from you every time you navigate pages and there being a leaderboard for the unluckiest people that month

players lined up en masse for waking up turmaculus and PRAYING that he would be nice enough to eat their goddamn petpet and give them a special site avatar for it

there was an item that you could buy for millions of neopoints in a “hidden” (used loosely) shop that you could use in the site’s battle feature to turn your opponent’s neopet into another color and species of neopet PERMANENTLY, undoing all their work on getting that rare paintbrush instantly

Neopets has a stock market, this one used to work as real life Stock Markets do, which lead to players coming together and all investing on the same stock in order to inflate it’s prize and gain a lot of money, yes, this was way before Reddit did it in real life. The Neopian Stock Market is now randomized instead of based in player’s investments

There’s a Neopets Black Market in which you pay real actual money to get rare items, usually unchanged Neopets that didn’t went through the UI update, which are considered the highest Rarity in the game

Lutari Island was a Neopian city, this one was only available through the mobile game however, and now the place is unreachable

Just to be clear, this one is a rumor within the fandom, but apparently one of the TNT (The Neopets Team, pretty much the staff) jobs was actively looking for and DMCA'ing Neopets not sfw content, as far as I am aware, this has slowed down/completely stopped after the staff change that caused the Neoapocalypse.

Not only does Neopets have a complex economy with inflation, stock markets, gambling, investing and trading but it also had an economic crash, which lead to stores going from allowing objects max prize to be from 99.999 to 999.999
