KOSA/KIDS ACT UPDATE 7/24/26

As you may know, the Senate Commerce Committee was eyeing July 29th as a markup date for some kids safety bills, which likely would include some version of KOSA. However, they are still negotiating between Marsha Blackburn and the White House, negotiations which seem to have a lot of back and forth, the Senate is now considering August 3rd as a potential markup date. This would be a few days before they leave for a summer recess which would last until after Labor Day in September.

Call your senators, call your representatives, call Senate Commerce Committee members and give them reason to oppose these bills and to NEVER bring them back up.

The Trump administration is cynically exploiting calls for stricter AI regulation to pass broad censorship measures at the federal level.

So, in terrible news, Trump's trying to pull some strings to pass this massive internet censorship bill, featuring all the kinds of internet censorship we're terrified of, including mandatory ID for accessing basically any website, specifically to crush state regulation of AI, because apparently this man will always see the moral bottom of the barrel and start digging.

So, if you live in the US and hate censorship and AI you know what to do, contact your congresspeople and tell them do not fucking dare let this through or so help us god...

The US government is trying to take ao3 away from us

the US government is currently trying to pass the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). to the shock of no one, this is a censorship bill masquerading as a child protection act.

This would not only increase online censorship, but end online privacy and anonymity, including things like end to end encryption.

It would make things like abortion, race, and lgbtq topics be considered inappropriate for children and prevent kids and teens from accessing needed resources and support, from finding communities, and from understanding themselves and others.

that includes social media, free speech/anti-censorship platforms, fanfiction websites, etc.

They're trying to have age checks for anyone to be able to access the internet so they can better control/restrict what people are seeing, which should be up to the individual user and/or their parents.

Essentially the US government is trying to make a contemporary hayes code, censoring and villainizing anything nazis don't like, and on top of that they're making it easier for us to be spied on.

Unfortunately, the Kids Act passed the House. The amount of misinformation I saw LAST NIGHT and this morning on TikTok on how “KOSA didn’t pass the house” when the vote DIDN’T EVEN HAPPEN YET🫩. Now it’s time to call your Senators, please call and tell them why they should Oppose this bill.

“KOSA never passes the senate tho in the various times it’s reintroduced” doesn’t matter, please continue to call, fax, email. As well as ignore videos that say that the bill didn’t pass UNTIL the debate and vote officially happens on the set time and date.

I am unsure when the Senate will discuss the Bill, but please start calling and emailing (calling is preferred). Linktree (from OmarBigSister on Tt) will give you websites that you can use to call your senators and even provide a call script. You can also use the 5 calls app to help you reach your senators.

As someone who gets nervous while making phone calls, leave a voicemail, anything makes a big difference (try calling after 6 or 7pm to leave voicemails). Specifically to their state office, not the dc office.
