A 46 and 28 of Revali wanting to confess his love for Link by asking to marry him but loses the box and looks for it like crazy, only for Link to find it first and have a misunderstanding. You can do it with any rito headcanons that you want!
46-“Hey, have you seen the..? Oh.” + 28-“Marry me?”
Pairing- Revali x Link. (Age of Calamity)
(Its not exactly to the prompt, but I got kinda carried away 😬)
Revali had never been so on edge in his life. He was about to propose to the love of his life, and he couldn’t even find the goddamn box.
He tore around his house, looking for the elusive carrier. Of all the things that could have gone wrong, this was quite possibly the worse. There was a knock on his door.
“Vali? Are you home?” Link’s voice floated from just outside his hut.
Oh gods, oh gods oh gods. Why now? Why him?
Link opened the door, sidestepping the ever-growing mass of blankets and weavings.
“Geez Vali. It’s a mess in here,” he said, eyes wide. Recall was usually so fastidious.
The blue Rito scoffed, trying to hide his nerves. Link looked around curiously.
“Did you lose something?” He asked with a tilt of his head.
“What? Pffft. No,” Revali said quickly. He plastered a smile on for emphasis.
Link gave him a look. Revali’s shoulders sagged.
“Fine. Yes,” he admitted. “I’ve lost something very important to me. It’s a little birch box.”
Link picked up the blankets strewn across the floor and folded them into a neat pile.
“Well if thats all you need, I’ll help you find it!” He crowed, immediately rooting through the mess.
“Really, Link,” Revali protested, hoping he didn’t sound too desperate. “Its fine you don’t need to-“
Revali squawked indignantly at the pillow thrown in his face. Link readied another one, and cocked his eyebrow. Revali’s shoulders sagged. This was by far the worst day in the history of days. Link dug around, moving jars and shelves.
“What is this?” He held up a box of beads.
“Thats my box of years,” Revali said. Surely the ring had to be somewhere. “Each bead signifies a birthday or special occasion. Rito weave them into their braids to signify rank and age.”
Link shook the box around.
“What’s this one?” He held up an opulent bead glazed with blue.
“Champions bead.” He threw the blankets off his hammock. “It was gifted to me by the village the day I was asked to be the Rito champion.”
Revali swept aside some pillows. Surely a box couldn’t be this elusive, right?
“Hey, is this it?” Link clutched the open box.
“No, Link. Youre not supposed to..!” Revali said desperately. It was too late. Link held up another bead, one of woven gold.
“Cool! What’s this one for?” He turned the little ring over in his fingers, marveling at the craftsmenship.
All the wind rushed out of Revali at once.
“Vali? Vali. Talk to me. Are you ok?” Link set the box down and rushed to him.
“You found it,” Revali whispered. Link’s eyes went soft.
“Can I ask what it’s for?” He offered the box out. Revali took it in his shaking wings. He swept over the lid he had painstakingly carved himself.
“It’s for you,” he said softly.
Links eyes widened. Revali sighed and got down on one knee. It wasn’t the most romantic moment, but it would do.
“Link. From the moment I met you I knew you were special. We’ve been through a lot together, and all of it has made my love for you stronger.”
Link opened and closed his mouth, eyes blown to seismic proportions. Revali rolled his eyes.
“Come on, chickadee. Yes or no?”
Link dove into Revali’s arms, almost knocking the box out of his hands. They met in a kiss, the world dissolving away to nothing.
“Oh Vali. I feel bad for ruining the surprise,” he mumbled into his neck. Revali brushed his wings down to curl around Link’s waist.
“I must admit, you did catch me quite by surprise. But it think the point got across, no?”
He reached inside the box for the bead. “May I?”
Link nodded and turned around. Revali gently worked out his hair band and wove the bead into a simple braid that hung over his shoulder. Link fingered the braid in amazement.
“I love you too, little champion.”
